MEET PENNY—SHE’S READY FOR A LOVING HOME!
After being dumped in the woods with her kittens, Penny is finally safe—and now she’s waiting for someone to give her the indoor home she deserves.
Penny is a beautiful 4-year-old dilute tortoiseshell with a sweet personality, smoky-gray coat, peachy markings, and adorable white paws. She’s friendly, cat-friendly, spayed, and vaccinated. We’re unsure how she does with dogs, so any introductions should be slow and careful.
Penny is currently staying in an outdoor catio in Millville, NJ. While she’s safe, she deserves the comfort, companionship, and security of a foster or forever home indoors.

3. Coraline
Kitten (2 months 4 days) · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 32 mi from Bowers

Coraline's story started behind a fence, where she was found screaming for help. Somewhere along the way, humans had failed her, and she learned that hiding was the safest way to protect herself.
Since coming into our care, Coraline has made wonderful progress, but she is still learning that people can be trusted. She is a very special girl, which is why we will be extremely particular about the home we choose for her.
Read more about Coraline
Coraline needs a quiet, calm, patient home where she can continue building her confidence at her own pace. She is not a good match for a loud or chaotic household, and her adopter must understand that trust takes time. She needs someone who will never force her, rush her, or expect her to become am affectionate lap cat overnight.
Her adopter needs to understand that earning her trust is a process. She needs someone who will see how special she is, and be committed to giving her the peaceful, secure life she deserves.
Coraline has already had humans fail her once. We are determined to make sure that never happens again.
She has already survived the hardest part. Now Coraline just needs someone willing to put in the time and work to earn her trust. The journey may take some patience, but the reward of watching her blossom and knowing she finally feels safe will be twofold.

9. Millie
Adult · Female · Tabby (short coat) · 33 mi from Bowers

Please open your arms and heart to Millie. She was very scared and shutting down in our adoption center, so one of our adoption center volunteers took her home for a break. Millie is welcoming her new environment! In her foster home, she comes to life after dark. That is when she does her eating, visits to the litter box and tossing her toys around.
During the day, she is a demure little thing with the loudest purr and searching out hands to butt with her head. Once she is comfortable with you, she will curl up and snuggle by your side, glancing over every once in a while to make sure you are still there and lauding your attention on her.

Meet BLITZ — He’s Ready to Follow You Home!
Sometimes a cat makes it pretty obvious what he wants—and Blitz wants PEOPLE! ❤️

And he was absolutely loving it.
Blitz enjoyed the freedom to explore, stretch his legs, and spend time with the other cats. He got along with his feline roommates and seemed quite happy having some kitty friends around.
But when visitors walk into the room, Blitz knew exactly where he wanted to be.
With you.

While he's becoming more confident every day, sudden movements and loud activity can still startle him, so he'll do best with a family that understands his sensitive nature and allows him to approach new things at his own pace. Nimbus is looking for a low-traffic home where he can truly relax and settle in. A calm environment with predictable routines will help him feel secure and allow his sweet personality to shine. He dreams of a cozy spot by the window, a soft bed to curl up in, and a family that understands that trust is something special that's built over time. If you have a soft spot for the shy ones and the patience to let trust grow, Nimbus could be your perfect match. Nimbus's adoption fee is $0.Please note: All of our animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Each pet also receives a behavioral assessment to help us better understand the type of home they may thrive in. However, it’s important to remember that the results may not fully reflect an animal’s true personality, as shelter and foster environments can be stressful. If you are interested in meeting any of our animals, we encourage you to first visit our website and submit an adoption application: https://www.acskc.org/adopt-1Once your adoption application has been approved, we will call you to set up an appointment to meet with the pet! Once you’re ready to adopt, head over to our Adoption Application to fill out and submit the form. Once our Adoption Team has reviewed and approved your application, we will give you a call to schedule an appointment with the pet! When you arrive at ACSKC, you will be greeted by our Adoption Coordinator and taken to meet the pet, either in our Meet and Greet Room or one of the play yards. If you already have pets in the home, you may be asked to bring them with you for a meet and greet to ensure they will get along in the home (this typically only applies to dogs). If you and our Adoption Coordinator feel like it is a good match, we will then finalize the paperwork and send you home with a bag of goodies, including our “Welcoming Your New Pet Home Guide,” toys, treats and a sample bag of their pet food. If it is not a good match, you are welcome to meet the other available pets in the shelter. Your approved application will be kept on file for 90 days, so you’re encouraged to take your time before making a decision!

Adopting a cat in Bowers
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
