1. Svengoolie
Adult (2 years) · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

Meet Svengoolie!
He may look a little rough around the edges, but this Svengoolie is not scary at all! This sweet orange tabby boy has had a rough start in life. For his first two years, he endured a hoarding situation. His disposition shows that he must have received plenty of love, but his body condition shows that there was likely not enough food to go around. Sven is looking for a home where he will be able to count on having enough food at each meal to help him put on a little weight and develop a shiny, healthy coat of fur. He has a healthy appetite and is good with his litter box, and should thrive in a home environment.
Read more about Svengoolie
Sven just arrived at our cat center and started out very shy, hiding behind his blankets. As soon as he realized he was safe, he allowed himself to soak up all of the love our volunteers have to give. Sven comes out of his hiding spot as soon as we open his condo door. He leans his head into hands for pets, and immediately starts making biscuits and purring. He is one of those cats that likes to make sure that you are petting him with both hands!
Given his background, Sven needs a quiet home where he will be able to settle in at his own pace. He would likely do well with another cat in the home, but at this time dogs and young kids would be too much for him. He does give an occasional love bite when you are petting him, so his adopters should know how to gently redirect. We rescued him from his previous situation, but you can save him by giving him the loving home that he deserves.
Svengoolie
is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations,

, and litter box trained.
Svengoolie
's adoption fee is $135. If you are interested in meeting

2. Piquad
Adult (3 years) · Male · Ragdoll (short coat)

Meet Piquad! Your Future Cuddle Buddy Has Arrived.
At 3 years old, Piquad is a handsome Ragdoll with a heart as soft as his fur and a personality that says, “Why stand when you could snuggle?” This sweet, easygoing boy is a professional lounger, an enthusiastic cuddler, and an all-around expert in the fine art of being adorable.
Read more about Piquad
Unfortunately, Piquad’s former owner left the country and simply left him behind. We’re pretty sure Piquad would have preferred a going-away party, a suitcase full of treats, or at the very least, a forwarding address! Instead, this lovely boy is looking for a fresh start with someone who understands that a cat is family, not something you leave behind when life takes you somewhere new.
Piquad is ready to put his unfortunate past behind him and focus on the important things in life: cozy naps, gentle affection, quality cuddle time, and a human who appreciates having a fluffy little shadow following them around. He’s got plenty of love to give and is just waiting for someone to give him a permanent place in their heart and home.
If you’ve been dreaming of a sweet, mellow companion who will make your home feel warmer and your couch feel more occupied, Piquad would like to submit his application. He promises to bring the purrs. You provide the snuggles.
Piquad is ready to love you for life. Let’s make sure this time, forever really means forever.
To offer me a loving home, please call the nice people at Touched By An Animal/Cats-Are-Purrsons-Too at (773)728-6336, or e-mail them at TBA@touchedbyananimal.org.

Benji's personal motto is "go with the flow". He is ready to play and is just as eager to lounge around. Benji was found outside with a bite wound on his tail which told us he wasn't rough and tumble enough to hang with the street cats anymore. His adjustment to his life indoors went off without a hitch. He is highly adaptable and quickly warms up to new people. This friendly and afffectionate boy will not hesitate to meow or headbutt you softly for pets. Everyone who meets him instantly falls in love with this sweet boy and reciprocates by allowing belly rugs and chin scratches.

11. Bitty
Adult (1 year 1 month) · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

Want someone who’s genuinely thrilled every single time you come home? Bitty has you covered!
The moment you open the door, Bitty will come looking for you, ready to welcome you home. From there, expect to have a little shadow following you around the house. He’s incredibly affectionate and loves being near his people, but he’s also perfectly capable of doing his own thing—making him a great combination of cuddly and independent.
Read more about Bitty
Bitty is also very friendly with other animals. His only problem? He firmly believes that everyone must love him. Sometimes he’s still figuring out that his animal friends may not appreciate quite as much togetherness as he does! He’s only about a year old, though, and he’s still learning those personal-space boundaries.
Sweet, social, young, and full of love, Bitty would be a wonderful companion for someone who wants an affectionate little buddy without needing a cat permanently attached to their lap.

12. Jazz
Adult (1 year 1 month) · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

Jazz is a sweet, social girl who desperately wants to be your friend—she’s just still figuring out how to be brave enough to do it!
Jazz absolutely loves other cats and comes running when her foster humans walk through the door. She wants to be wherever the people are and will hang out as close to them as she can. There’s just one catch: as much as Jazz loves people, she’s still scared of being touched.
Read more about Jazz
That certainly doesn’t stop her from trying, though! Jazz plays with toys with her foster humans, comes yelling for them when they get home, and has even gotten brave enough to give them a quick little poke with her nose before running away. Every small interaction is another step toward learning that people can be safe.
Jazz hasn’t had much experience with humans, and even in her short time in foster care, she has already made wonderful progress. She’ll need a patient adopter who is willing to let her build trust at her own pace rather than expecting her to become a cuddly cat overnight.
Because she absolutely adores other cats, Jazz would make a wonderful companion for another kitty. A confident feline friend may even help show her that these strange human creatures aren’t so scary after all!

13. Harry
Adult (2 years 1 month) · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

Do you ever feel like you have a little too much personal space? Harry can fix that for you!
Harry is a big love bug who wants nothing more than to be in direct contact with his people. In your lap? Absolutely. Lying on your belly? Even better. Pressed against your arm because being three inches away is simply unacceptable? Obviously.
Read more about Harry
Harry can seem a little nervous when he first meets someone, but all it takes is one pet and suddenly you’re his best friend. Once he decides you’re safe, prepare to have a very affectionate little shadow. Harry also loves other animals and enjoys their company, although, thankfully for them, he understands their personal space a little better than he understands ours!
If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate companion who believes cuddling should be a full-contact sport, Harry might be your guy

14. Gianna
3 Years 2 Months · Female · Dilute Tortoiseshell / Russian Blue / Mixed (short coat)

Meet Gianna – A Beautiful, Shy Girl with a Gentle Heart!
With her gorgeous dilute tortoiseshell coat, striking green eyes, and delicate features, Gianna is a beautiful little lady who prefers to appreciate life from a safe and comfortable distance—at least until she gets to know you!
Gianna is a very shy girl, and she's not the kind of cat who will rush over to greet strangers or demand attention. She prefers to take her time, observe her surroundings, and decide for herself when it's safe to venture out. But behind that cautious exterior is a sweet, sensitive soul who deserves a loving home where she can finally feel secure.
Read more about Gianna
Gianna has a few favorite things that make her world a happy place. Canned food is definitely near the top of the list! A delicious meal is always appreciated and may be one of the best ways to begin earning her trust.
She also absolutely loves her cat tree! Having a comfortable perch where she can relax, feel safe, and watch the world go by is very important to her. And if that cat tree happens to be near a window, even better! Gianna enjoys watching birds and can spend plenty of time quietly observing all the fascinating activity outside.
When it comes to other cats, Gianna is perfectly comfortable sharing her space. She gets along fine with feline companions and could do well in a home with other calm, respectful cats.
What Gianna needs most is a patient, understanding person who doesn't expect instant affection. Someone who will give her the space to settle in, establish a routine, and gradually learn that her new home is a safe place.
She's a wonderful match for someone who appreciates quieter cats and understands that building a relationship with a shy kitty can take time. Every little step forward, every moment of growing confidence, can become something truly special.
If you have a peaceful home, a comfortable cat tree by the window, and a heart big enough to give a shy little girl the time she needs, Gianna would love the chance to become part of your family.
Sometimes the most beautiful friendships begin quietly!

15. Denny

Meet Denny – A Beautiful Girl with a Shy but Sweet Heart!
Some cats are born to steal the spotlight, while others prefer to quietly capture your heart. Denny is definitely the second kind!

Read more about Denny
But Denny isn't just a pretty face. She's a gentle, sensitive girl who happens to be quite shy around people. She's not one to rush forward demanding attention, and she prefers to observe the world from a safe, comfortable spot until she feels confident enough to venture out.
There is, however, one thing that can make Denny forget some of her reservations—canned food! This lovely lady has a healthy appreciation for a delicious meal, and food may well be the secret to winning her trust.
Denny also gets along fine with other cats. She's comfortable sharing her space with feline companions, which could make a home with other calm, friendly cats a good fit for her.
What Denny needs most is a patient, understanding person who will appreciate her for who she is. Someone who won't expect instant affection or rush her into interactions, but will give her the freedom to settle in, feel secure, and build trust at her own pace.
Watching a shy cat gradually become comfortable is a special kind of reward, and Denny deserves someone willing to give her that opportunity.
If you have a peaceful home, a patient heart, and a soft spot for beautiful, sensitive cats, Denny might be the girl you've been waiting for.
She may not fall in love with you on the first day, but with time, kindness, and perhaps a little canned food, a beautiful friendship could begin!

Kitten (3 months 28 days) · Male · Abyssinian / Mixed (short coat)

Meet Bibbidi Mel – A Gentle Little Sweetheart!
Bibbidi Mel (or simply Mel to his friends) is a sweet, gentle little boy with a heart full of love and just a touch of shyness. He may take a little time to warm up, but once he feels comfortable, his affectionate nature begins to shine.
One of Mel's most adorable habits is the way he responds to being petted. Instead of demanding attention, he simply leans ever so slightly into your hand, as if quietly saying, "Oh, yes, I really like that. Please don't stop." It's such a small gesture, but absolutely heart-melting!

Alice will be at the Darien Petsmart adoption event Saturday, October 31st from 11-2.
Fostered with siblings, Lexi and Ethel.
Read more about Alice
Alice was born into her fosters home from a feral pregnant cat they took in. Mom is all vetted and is now part of the foster's family. As much as they would have loved to keep all of the kittens, of course that was not possible. Now Alice is ready to find her forever home. She is very affectionate and loves to crawl into your lap for pets. Some days I call her velcro since I can't get her off my lap. She co-exists with the other fosters and cats in the house, but would also do well as an only cat to soak up the attention.
We encourage you to consider adopting kittens in pairs! There are several reasons why Alice would do well with a sibling or friend, including:
-Two kittens keep each other entertained - they will play and get all their energy out on each other in time for snuggles with you!
-Having two kittens to play with each other prevents "I'm lonely and bored" behavioral issues.
-Watching two kittens wrestle is quite possibly the cutest thing you will ever see.
-The kittens will teach each other "how to cat" and learn to be more social with humans and people.
-You'll save two lives instead of one!
Alice is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, spayed, and litter box trained.
Alice's adoption fee is $165. Please note A.R.F. does not approve applications for any kitten under 6 months of age to families that live outside of Illinois and/or beyond 100 miles of Wheaton or Glen Ellyn, IL.
If you are interested in meeting Alice, please fill out our
online kitten adoption application at https://www.arf-il.org/adopt/application/ today!
Once your application has been approved, an A.R.F. volunteer will be able to contact you to arrange a meeting.

25. Ethel
Kitten (4 months 10 days) · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

Ethel will be at the Darien Petsmart adoption event Saturday, October 31st from 11-2.
Ethel is fostered with her siblings Lexi and Alice.
Ethel's foster mom took in a pregnant stray cat and had her babies in the fosters' safe environment. The foster vetted the mom and she now has a permanent place in their family home. As much as they would have loved to keep all of the kittens, of course that was not possible. So now Ethel is looking for HER forever family and home. She would likely thrive better as an only cat in the home or be adopted with a sibling.

28. Milkdud
Adult (4 years 11 months) · Male · Tabby (short coat)

Meet Milkdud!
If you like your cats big, chunky and just a little bit bossy, step right up. Milkdud would like to meet you.
At 5 years old, this gorgeous black boy is what we like to call a substantial gentleman. He's independent and perfectly capable of entertaining himself—but he also knows that a good ear scratch and a face nuzzle are basic human responsibilities.
Milkdud has opinions. Many opinions. And he isn't shy about sharing them.
Is he bossy? Perhaps.
Does he know exactly what he wants? Absolutely.
Does he think you should accommodate his wishes? Obviously.
Read more about Milkdud
But underneath all that confidence is a sweet guy who genuinely enjoys affection—especially when it's delivered in the form of ear scratches and face rubs. He just prefers to be in charge of the scheduling.
Milkdud isn't looking for someone to smother him with attention. He's looking for someone who appreciates a cat with a big body, a big personality and a very clear set of operating instructions.
Think you can handle the DUD? Come meet Milkdud and see if you have what it takes to become his favorite human.
Fair warning: once Milkdud moves in, he may assume he's the manager.

29. west
Adult (8 months) · Male · Tabby (short coat)

Meet West!
West is 9 months old, orange and white, handsome as can be—and packed with all the orange energy you could possibly want!
West and his siblings were rescued after starting life outdoors, and when he first arrived, he wasn't exactly convinced that humans were his people. He was cautious, wary and definitely not ready to hand out trust for free.
Fast-forward a few months and West has completely transformed. He has discovered the joys of people, laps, playtime and being adored. These days, he's a curious, playful sweetheart who has become a full-fledged lap kitty.
So why is this handsome boy still here?
Read more about west
Well… West has committed the terrible crime of growing. He's almost full-sized, so people tend to walk right past him thinking he's an adult. But make no mistake—he is still very much a kitten, complete with zoomies, curiosity and plenty of classic orange-cat shenanigans.
West has a few important opinions: Temptation treats? YES. Fresh chicken? ABSOLUTELY. Being picked up? Hard pass. He'd much rather climb into your lap himself, which frankly is a perfectly reasonable boundary.
West has already come such a long way. Now he just needs the final chapter: a family of his own.
If you're looking for a playful, affectionate, curious orange boy with a big personality and an even bigger heart, come meet West! He may be almost full-grown, but there's still plenty of kitten left in this boy—and he is ready to find his forever home. i

30. Beetle
Adult (2 years 5 months) · Female · Tabby (short coat)

Meet Beetle
Beetle is 2½ years old, beautifully black, incredibly sweet—and sadly, very easy to overlook.
She was born with her hips slightly out of alignment, which means she has a little wobble when she walks and an adorable sashay when she runs. Honestly, we think it just gives her a little extra personality. And despite what some people assume, Beetle is NOT a special-needs cat. She doesn’t need anything special except what every shy cat deserves: a little patience, a little understanding, and someone willing to let her take things at her own pace.
Read more about Beetle
Beetle is quiet and shy at first. She may not be the cat who runs up to greet you or immediately demands attention. But give her time to trust you, and you’ll discover the incredibly sweet girl hiding underneath that cautious exterior.
She has spent far too much time being passed over because people see her little wobble and assume she’s somehow “different.” She is different—but only in the best way. ❤️
Beetle doesn’t need to be fixed. She doesn’t need to be rescued from herself. She just needs someone patient enough to let her show you who she really is.
Could you be Beetle’s person?
If you have a little patience and a lot of love to give, come meet Beetle and give this sweet girl the chance she’s been waiting for. She may need a little time to choose you—but we think she’ll be worth the wait.
Beetle is ready for a forever home. Could that home be yours?

Adopting a cat in Lake County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
