3. Pie
Meet Pie! She’s a beautiful half grown longhaired kitten with a thick black and white coat, and she’s every bit as sweet as her name.Pie was found in the woods by a deer hunter, nowhere near any houses. When he stepped out of his truck, she came running straight to him and climbed right up to his neck. She was starving and filthy. At intake she was at least 5 months old but weighed only 2 lbs 12 oz, when she should be around 5 lbs or more. Her fluffy coat hides it, but when you pet her, all you feel is bones. Our vet found that she broke her back foot at some point when she was younger. It has mostly healed, so there isn’t much to be done, and she will probably always have a limp.

Otherwise he said she looks OK and just needs to be fed slowly to regain her weight. Her ears are perfectly clean and she had no fleas. Her white fur was very dirty from trying to survive on her own, but we suspect she lived indoors at one time. She is not microchipped, and no one came forward looking for her.Pie is VERY people oriented and friendly. She was brave enough to ask for help, and now she just wants to be near her people. She’s sure to be a lap cat, and she deserves a home where she can finally relax, fill out, and be loved. Her limp doesn’t seem to slow her down.If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application. 4. Cider
Meet Cider, a kitten with a purr that's way louder than it has any right to be.Cider was found as a sick, tiny stray. A rough case of ringworm cost him his long hair, which is why he looks like a shorthair in his pictures. He's fully cleared now, and the hair is slowly growing back. Whether he ends up fully fluffy again, only time will tell, but he's working on it.He's playful and always looking for attention. He's not a big cuddle bug yet, since he couldn't be held much while he was dealing with the ringworm. Our guess is that will change, because he keeps asking for the attention. If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application.

9. Primrose
Primrose was adopted out several years ago. She was recently found as a very skinny stray with a lot of hair loss and fleas. She’s back in our care and will be up for adoption. She has always lived with a dog, but no other cats, and she’s lived with school-age children. Because of this, she does not like other cats and would do best in a home without them.If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application. 11. Malibu
Are you looking for a furry roommate, that will live with you for free? He will require special food and you'll have to clean his toilet. He will walk around your house like he owns it and make himself comfortable on your favorite seat. Sometimes he'll want attention sometimes not, you never know. He will deal with other furry roommates you may have and he even doesn't mind the humans. Your new roommate doesn't mind being inside or outside, but he definitely likes both. If this sounds like an ideal roommate for you, you should meet Malibu! He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and negative for FIV/ FeLV.

12. Snickers
Meet Snickers — you might also see her listed as Sarabi, the name we knew her by before her adoption. She's a hefty, 6-year-old spayed girl with a lot of presence. We had her since she was a kitten until her adoption last year, and now she's back with us, currently staying in a loving foster home while she waits for her next family (weighed in around 15 pounds at her last adoption).Snickers isn't a lap cat, but she likes to be near her people — she'd rather curl up beside you or share the room than climb into your lap. Her foster mom says she'll stretch out right next to her on the couch, or claim the foot rest the second it's up.She's got a playful side too, especially when there's a bug to hunt down around the house, and she's settled in well with the puppy in her foster home — these days the two of them chase each other around.
Read more about Snickers
She was also comfortable being around dogs during her time at the rescue.Other cats are a bit more of a mixed bag for her. She got along fine with most of the cats here at the rescue, though she wasn't especially friendly with all of them, and there were a few she just didn't care for. Her previous owner tried introducing another cat, and Snickers wasn't open to it — though that introduction didn't get much of a chance before it was called off. With some patience and a cat willing to give her space, she may still do okay in a multi-cat home. She's easy to please on the small stuff. Any litter works for her, though her foster mom has found she seems to prefer clumping sand since it's gentler on her paws. She's currently eating 4Health grain-free, and she's a nibbler who grazes through her food rather than eating it all in one go.If you're looking for a substantial, steady girl who wants company without needing constant attention, Snickers would love to meet you. Her adoption fee is $75.If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application. 19. Pinocchio
Pinocchio came to us back in 2024 as a tiny one‑month‑old kitten, and he’s been in foster care ever since. His long stay is due to ongoing medical issues that required careful monitoring and a very consistent routine. He essentially has megaesophagus—or something extremely similar—even if it was never formally diagnosed. The treatment approach fits his symptoms, and it has helped him stay stable.Pinocchio is a cat who likes things on his terms. When he’s asked to do something he doesn’t want to do, he can get cranky or a bit belligerent. His foster has always respected those boundaries, but during a nail trim recently he very forcefully showed his opinion.
Read more about Pinocchio
Because of this, Pinocchio is not a good fit for a home with children and will need an adopter comfortable with a cat who communicates clearly when he’s overwhelmed. His feeding routine is essential. He eats Kirkland Pate, smashed with a fork and mixed with an electrolyte/water blend until it’s very soupy. He eats from a raised platform about six inches high. He is only vocal during meals, and while he used to struggle with severe regurgitation, he now rarely does. When he does have an issue, it’s occasional vomiting rather than the chronic regurgitation he had before.Pinocchio prefers a quiet, predictable environment. He will occasionally play with a foster cat friend, but he mostly enjoys doing his own thing and doesn’t seek out a lot of social interaction from other animals.Pinocchio needs an adopter with patience, experience, and a willingness to maintain the feeding routine that keeps him stable. In the right home—one that understands his boundaries and medical needs—he can continue to thrive.Adoption fee: $75 Apply today at www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt Adoption includes: spay/neuter, microchip, FVRCP vaccine(s), rabies vaccine, flea prevention, and deworming medication. Just a quick note—he's currently in a foster home, not at the shelter, so he won't be available for walk-in visits. If you'd like to meet him, we'll need to schedule a meet and greet in advance. Let us know what days work best for you, and we’ll be happy to coordinate! If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application. 20. Marigold
Marigold and her six kittens were found in a crawl space under a house, keeping dry and safe the best she could. She has been a steady, devoted mom throughout her time in foster care, raising her babies with patience and calm. Now that her kittens are grown, Marigold is ready for a home where she can continue developing her personality and show just how loving she can be. She’s a gentle talker, enjoys attention, and is looking for someone who will let her blossom at her own pace.Adoption fee: $75 Apply today at www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt Adoption includes: spay/neuter, microchip, FVRCP vaccine(s), rabies vaccine, flea prevention, and deworming medication. If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application.

Adopting a cat in Poneto
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
