4. Onyx

Young (1 year 5 months) · Male · Domestic Long Hair (long coat) · 97 mi from Louisville

ONYX is management. You are staff. We just want to make that clear. Beautiful Onyx is stunning longhaired black cat looking for a home. He will be in charge of said home, of course. He is an absolute love of a kitty, around 18 months old. He's fostered with a well-trained dog and is doing very well. He likes to nap with his foster brother and cuddle with his foster mom. Onyx has lived with a cat in the past, and should be fine with a well balanced cat and a good introduction. His long lovely locks will need regular brushing to keep him looking and feeling fabulous. If you'd like to meet Onyx, please fill out a cat adoption application at
dreamhouserescue.org.
We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. You can meet Onyx at our weekly adoption event, Saturday 11:30am-1:30pm at PetSmart Eastgate.

Our cats are fully vetted and require indoor-only homes. All other cats and dogs in the home must be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccines. We will not send cats to homes where they will be declawed, a harmful practice that can cause lifelong physical and behavioral problems. 5. Elara

Kitten · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed · 83 mi from Louisville

These adorable tabbies came in a litter of 5 and have been sitting in the shelter since the first week in July waiting their chance for a happy ending. If you have unfixed pets, please let us tell you about some great spay options. These siblings are super playful and have been exposed to dogs that have come to the spay clinic. If you are interested in adopting, please apply online and we will get back with you if it is a good fit as soon as we can get the information verified. With this litter, we need to verify microchips before leaving the store to make sure the right kitty/chip combination is registered.

Also these babies are used to being with many fur friends and can not be single pets. We do however have many adults patiently waiting for be in single pet homes as well as some amazing cats that want an inside/outside option, and several pairs that need humans that belive in can food. Our group is completely volunteer base, and struggling with high intake. It is not free for us to vet these babies. We do ask that adopters help us by donating to help us fix the kitties fixed, vaccinated, microchipped, and combo tested. A minimum fair donation would be $50 for a single or $70 for a pair, but we do understand that some will have deposits for their housing. Our main priority is that these babies land in a forever house and never need help from a rescue or shelter again.

13. Marble

Young (1 year) · Female · Dilute Tortoiseshell / Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) · 97 mi from Louisville

Marble - where to begin? Someone took her to a shelter - pregnant - but the shelter would not take her in. Someone in the lobby felt sorry for her and took her home.

Marble was in rough shape....all of her kittens died, probably because Marble was malnourished and too young.

We stumbled upon the situation and offered to get several of the people's cats fixed...but when we got Marble home, we realized she was in no condition to have surgery! She was only 4 1/2 pounds! The family agreed to surrender her so we could give her the medical attention she needed.

Well fast forward - she is a good as new! So friendly and playful....she LOVES toys and is hilarious! It is hard to get pictures of her because she is always on the go! So fun....we are so happy for her!

How to adopt from Stray Haven Inc

Thank you so much for considering a rescued pet as your next family member! People like you extending your faith in second hand pets is what makes our rescue go round. We depend on adoptions to not only enrich the life of our rescue pet, but to save the life of the next one in line, that we can't take until our babies find their new forevers. We want you to know that your time is very valuable to us and we want our entire process to be done in good faith. We need you to be honest with us and we will be honest with you. Any deception found during the application process will be grounds for denial. Requirements: We understand how important your time is and how emotional adding a new pet to the family can be. We are an all volunteer rescue with no paid staff, so we are going to do our best to help you know from the get go if your home environment will be a harmonious fit for what we are looking for in our new adoptive parents. Our checks are extensive, so we ask that you maintain an honest dialogue with us throughout the application. While we believe that any home can become a great one with education, we can not trust applicants that start off on the wrong foot with any untruths during the application process. Your current pets need to be fixed. Unless there is a medical issue or compelling reason that your current pets aren't fixed, we will need to pass on your application. Adopting a cat in Louisville

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
