29. Emmy
Meet Emmy — affectionately known around the rescue as “Mustache Momma.” This beautiful 7-year-old girl was found as a stray and spent quite a while learning how to trust people again. Because she was so shy at first, Emmy stayed in the rescue president’s home where she slowly blossomed into the loving, attention-seeking queen she is today. While her original name was Mustache Momma, “Emmy” ended up fitting her sweet and sophisticated personality perfectly.Once Emmy comes out of her shell, she becomes the center of attention — literally. If someone else is getting petted nearby, Emmy fully believes that affection should belong to her instead.

She absolutely adores being loved on and will happily insert herself into every cuddle session. She’s also very food motivated, which may explain her adorable extra few pounds.Emmy has experience living with both dogs and cats. She does well with smaller dogs and could adjust to larger dogs with a proper introduction period. She’s also great with older children who understand how to respect a cat’s space. One of Emmy’s biggest comforts is companionship. She has lived in a home with 12 other cats and truly thrives in a multi-cat household where she always has company nearby. She enjoys being part of the group and would do wonderfully in a home with feline friends.Emmy is the perfect mix of sweet, sassy, and affectionate. If you’re looking for a cat who will keep you company, supervise every petting session, and make herself the star of the household, Emmy is ready to claim her throne in your home. Adopting a cat in New Orleans
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
