4. Pagoda

Adult (2 years 1 month) · Female · Domestic Short Hair

Pagoda is a beautiful sweet girl! Having come from a hoarding situation, she is very shy, but learning to come out of her shell. She’s most active and curious at night, exploring the whole apartment and leaving no corner un-sniffed. She’s very food-motivated, licking the plate clean every time and licking Churu off her foster's hand. Around humans, she still gets a little scared. But every night, she claims the pillow where her foster sits, a small sign she’s learning to love.

She’ll do the best with a patient adopter who is willing to take the time to let her blossom. She’s not the cuddliest (not yet!) but coming out of her shell day-by-day.

Pagoda is FeLV+ and needs to be adopted as a single cat or with another feline leukemia positive companion. Cats that are FeLV+ can live normal and healthy lives when provided with quality care such as a balanced diet and yearly wellness exam, however most likely their lifespans will be shorter than other cats. We’d be happy to talk more about this!

5. Venom

Adult (1 year) · Male · Domestic Short Hair

Venom was deceptively named, as there is nothing venomous about this sweet tabby boy. (Given his propensity to sit on his bum like a little old man, we often call him lil’ Vinny).

Read more about Venom

Venom started out shy and nervous about his new surroundings, but never hissed or bit. We quickly learned he is motivated by Churu treats and chin scratches. He can still be a bit skittish around loud sounds (and he is deeply distrusting of our ceiling fan), but with time to explore he has now settled into life as a very cozy couch cat. Venom loves to spend his days napping in the sun, meowing at mealtime, annihilating his mouse toy, and requesting head rubs. He will gladly follow you all around the house just to hang out.

Venom is comfy around new adults, he would definitely be happy in a quiet, calm, and loving home.

6. Affogato & Bomboloni

Kitten (2 months 24 days) · Female · Domestic Short Hair

Bomboloni is an adorable sweet and adventurous little kitten who loves to play, be pet and massaged, and is really chill as soon as she warms up to the environment. She is friendly and curious and amazing at catching any toy. She spends most of her day cuddled next to me, playing with her sister, discovering things, and purring a lot!

Affogato is an adorable sweet little kitten who loves to play as well! It takes her a little longer than Bomboloni to warm up to an environment but once she does she is just as fast and curious! She also loves to be pet and purrs a ton.

7. Cannoli & Studio

Kitten (2 months 29 days) · Domestic Short Hair

Meet Cannoli & Studio

Cannoli and Studio are a playful, affectionate seven-week-old bonded pair looking for a home together. Although they aren’t siblings, they’ve become a lovely little team and are ready to find a family of their own.

Cannoli is a beautiful white kitty with distinctive markings. She’s a little more cautious than Studio and likes to take her time getting comfortable, but she’s sweet, cuddly and loves affection once she feels safe.

Studio is a handsome tabby boy with plenty of playful energy. He’s curious, outgoing and always ready for a game, but he’s just as happy snuggling up for cuddles and climbing into a welcoming lap.

Both kittens are super playful and affectionate, with a lovely mix of kitten mischief and cuddly moments. They enjoy each other’s company and are just as happy playing together as they are settling in for some lap time.

At just twelve weeks old, they have plenty of growing and learning ahead of them. They’ll thrive with a loving adopter who can give them a safe environment, lots of playtime and the patience to let their personalities develop.

Kitten (5 months) · Domestic Short Hair

Cinder & Ash were born in the backyard of an apartment building. Some concerned residents rescued them and brought them to our rescue. A neighbor is currently fostering the two of them, and they are getting braver every day.

These two kittens are understandably terrified of people. Although they still have a long road ahead of them, they do now accept treats from their foster mom's hand. They require love and most importantly patience from a kind individual.

10. Double Dutch

Adult (10 months) · Female · Domestic Short Hair

This sweet girl is a young mama who had kittens while she was still a kitten herself. Now it’s her turn to be someone’s baby!

Double Dutch can be shy at first, but once she feels comfortable, her affectionate personality really shines. She’ll follow you around, looking for pets and scritches, and happily settle into your lap for some quality cuddle time.

She’s playful, too, but has left the extra-wild kitten stage behind. Double Dutch has the best of both worlds: a fun, playful side and a love for cozy time with her favorite people.

13. Hubby

Adult (10 years 6 months) · Male · Domestic Short Hair

Hubby is a total sweetheart who lives for cuddles and affection. He’s extremely loving, a very calming presence, and he loves people. He gets along great with strangers and is very friendly. He’s 11 years old, food-motivated, and low-key. He’s not a playful cat, so he’s best suited to a laid-back home rather than one with a lot of chaos or other high-energy pets.

Read more about Hubby

He does have some care needs. He’s had recurring issues with constipation, so we’re hoping to find an adopter with experience managing a pet’s medical needs. His daily routine includes Royal Canin wet food, Purina Pro Plan Hydracare, and Purina Pro Plan probiotic, every day. He’s also a bit overweight at 18 lbs, so a home with room to encourage some gentle exercise and a commitment to a healthier diet would really help him thrive.

14. Joe Dirt

Adult (1 year) · Male · Domestic Short Hair

Meet Joe Dirt!

Found hanging outside a pizza shop in Brooklyn Heights (a hankering we can all understand), Joe Dirt is ready to find his forever home. At around 1 year old, this handsome orange tuxedo boy has the serious, distinguished air of a much older gentleman.

Read more about Joe Dirt

Mr. Dirt is sweet, affectionate, and wonderfully chill. He's a quiet companion, except for his enthusiastic purring during lap time and chin scratches. He loves curling up next to his humans, stretching out his long limbs, and rolling onto his back when he's feeling extra comfortable. After a good meal, he'll treat himself to a relaxing bath and admire his handsome reflection in the bathroom mirror — a true gentleman who appreciates self-care!

Still settling in, Joe hasn't shown much interest in toys just yet, preferring to explore his surroundings and perfect his lounging skills.

18. Shaggy

Adult (3 years) · Male · Domestic Medium Hair

Shaggy is such a sweet boy! He’s a pretty independent guy and generally spends most of the day doing his own thing. He loves to find a quiet spot to hide, but enjoys stealing the spotlight on a work call as well! He appreciates the company of people and often comes when called. If you pat the couch he will hop right up and wait expectantly for pets! He has absolutely no sense of personal space and will happily climb all over you on the couch, but is a respectful king at night and will sleep politely at the foot of the bed. He has a strong preference for catnip toys and is very treat motivated! He would probably do best with someone who works from home or is hybrid, as we get the sense he likes having people around.

19. Sid

Adult (2 years 1 month) · Male · Domestic Short Hair

Meet Sid: the sweetest, most affectionate orange boy (with brains to match!)

Sid spent his early days exploring the great outdoors, and now he’s discovering all the good things indoor life has to offer. Case in point: he only recently met his first Churu. A week ago he wasn’t sure what to do with one; now he’s a certified fan. Similarly, he also just discovered what a reflection in the mirror is. His paws are still getting used to the soft life, and he’s loving every minute of it.

Read more about Sid

Sid takes a few days to get to know you, but once he does, he’ll be your loyal friend. He’ll come running when you call for him, greet you with VERY enthusiastic head bumps, and never say no to a good chin scratch. He appreciates the little things. Mealtime and treats are definitely the highlights of his day.

Sid is also still learning how to play. Strings and toy mice haven’t quite clicked for him yet. We think this street-smart boy is used to the real thing and isn’t fooled by imitations! He’s curious and clever, though, so we have a feeling that the right person (and the right toy) will unlock his playful side. Maybe you’ll be the one to discover his favorite game.

He’s the perfect balance of cuddly and independent. Sid is happy to sit quietly by your side for hours, but he’s just as content entertaining himself while you’re busy. He still doesn’t like to be held though – some conditioning will be necessary if you want to pick him up. He’s also a very tidy gentleman. He takes his grooming seriously and has excellent litter box manners.

If you’re looking for a loving, grateful companion who will make every day a little brighter, Sid is ready to meet you!

22. Moniker

Adult (1 year 1 month) · Male · Domestic Short Hair

This is Moniker. He’s about a year old, sleek black with a clean white tuxedo chest and four white socks. His foster says he has been one of the sweetest, most genuinely affectionate cats they've ever lived with.

Read more about Moniker

From his very first day in their apartment, he didn’t hide under furniture or act cautious. He walked right out, climbed into his foster's lap, and melted. He is a pure cuddle cat who simply loves physical contact. At night, he insists on sleeping glued to his person—usually tucked against their arm or resting right beside their cheek. A few days ago, when his foster came down with a bad cold, he took it upon himself to nurse them: he curled up right over their chest, burying his face near their heart to keep them warm the entire night.

Because he loves company so much, his foster was initially worried he might have separation anxiety when they left for work. But every time they check the camera, he is simply fast asleep, completely calm and content until they get back.

A few things that make him so special:

His "bilingual" double meow: His foster talks to him in Korean, where the word for a cat's meow is two syllables (ya-ong). He started mimicking the rhythm, so instead of a single meow, he greets you with an intentional double meow ("meow-meow").

The shedding mystery: His foster prepared themselves for black fur everywhere, but he barely sheds at all. His cat bed is bright yellow and their duvet is beige, yet even on light fabric, finding more than a couple of stray hairs is almost impossible.

Agile and playful: He is remarkably fast and has an impressive vertical jump when chasing feather toys.

The nighttime routine: Like most young cats, he can get a burst of 5 AM zoomies if he has leftover energy. The fix has been simple: a solid 20-minute play session an hour before bed followed by dinner. Once he eats, he crashes out around 10 or 11 PM and sleeps straight through until morning.

Gentle temperament: He has never once hissed or swiped. Even when his foster had to give him oral medication—which usually turns into a battle with most cats—he let them open his mouth without biting or struggling.

He eats well, drinks lots of water (he just appreciates having fresh bowls), and keeps himself impeccably clean.

Moniker would thrive with someone who genuinely loves affectionate cats and wants a loyal little companion glued by their side.

This cat can be adopted with a friend or as a single cat.

Adult (4 years 1 month) · Female · Domestic Short Hair

Soca is the sweetest large angel!!

She is a very chill, 4-year-old gal who wants to play (mostly while laying) and wants to curl up near you all day! She has a big purr that starts up the second you pet her or start talking to her. She is so goofy because if you pet her face too long, she starts to grab your arm to wrestle and give love bites. We think she gets quickly overstimulated which is why the big loving purr turns to attack mode.

She sleeps extremely deeply and twitches a lot in her sleep. When she wakes up, she meows loudly until she figures out where you are. Then it is back to sleep!

We wish to place cats only in secure, safe, stable, loving homes, and we are very careful in our review of the applications. Potential Pet-parents fill out an Adoption Application, we review the application, call the applicant, schedule a time for them to visit our cats. We check their references, call their veterinarian, and verify that their backup person who would take the cats if something happened to the adopter is on board. Then a Foster Agreement is completed. When all parties are happy, after about 2 weeks, we have the finalized Adoption Agreement sent to us.

Adopters are asked to complete an application and spend time with their prospective companion animals. All adopters are carefully screened via vet and personal references, and a home visit is conducted. A donation in an amount agreeable to all parties is requested to help defray our expenses (medical, transport, training, pet supplies, etc). We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and are always in need of donations. That donation can be in the form of healthy treats, quality pet food, crates, blankets, new leashes and collars, toys, gift certificates to pet supply stores, kitty litter, etc. -all are gratefully accepted! Kittens can be adopted ONLY in pairs or to an age appropriate home. Resident cats must have proof of having been tested for FIV/FeLV.

Adopting a cat in Bergen County

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
