4. Pie

Kitten · Female · Domestic Long Hair / Mixed

Meet Pie! She’s a beautiful half grown longhaired kitten with a thick black and white coat, and she’s every bit as sweet as her name.Pie was found in the woods by a deer hunter, nowhere near any houses. When he stepped out of his truck, she came running straight to him and climbed right up to his neck. She was starving and filthy. At intake she was at least 5 months old but weighed only 2 lbs 12 oz, when she should be around 5 lbs or more. Her fluffy coat hides it, but when you pet her, all you feel is bones. Our vet found that she broke her back foot at some point when she was younger. It has mostly healed, so there isn’t much to be done, and she will probably always have a limp.

Read more about Pie

Otherwise he said she looks OK and just needs to be fed slowly to regain her weight. Her ears are perfectly clean and she had no fleas. Her white fur was very dirty from trying to survive on her own, but we suspect she lived indoors at one time. She is not microchipped, and no one came forward looking for her.Pie is VERY people oriented and friendly. She was brave enough to ask for help, and now she just wants to be near her people. She’s sure to be a lap cat, and she deserves a home where she can finally relax, fill out, and be loved. Her limp doesn’t seem to slow her down.If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application. 10. Cider

Kitten · Male · Domestic Long Hair / Mixed

Meet Cider, a kitten with a purr that's way louder than it has any right to be.Cider was found as a sick, tiny stray. A rough case of ringworm cost him his long hair, which is why he looks like a shorthair in his pictures. He's fully cleared now, and the hair is slowly growing back. Whether he ends up fully fluffy again, only time will tell, but he's working on it.He's playful and always looking for attention. He's not a big cuddle bug yet, since he couldn't be held much while he was dealing with the ringworm. Our guess is that will change, because he keeps asking for the attention. If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application.

I would happily rein over dogs and humans of all ages. I would be open to interviewing other felines to be members of my court.

My requirements for my new castle should include a throne in a sunny window, toys of all kinds, and possibly a human jester to perform in my court and stroke my luxurious fur upon request.

20. Nat

Young · Female · Tortoiseshell / Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat)

This is Nat. She showed up pregnant at a family's house. They had an appointment to have her spayed, but the day before her surgery, she had 6 kittens. The babies were born on July 27 and are now in new homes or are looking for homes. Nat is ready for her own cushy life, too.

Nat will be going on November 14 to be spayed and vaccinated and get any other vet care she needs. After that, she will be ready to head to a new home.

Nat is just an overgrown kitten herself. She is about a year old.

Read more about Nat

Nat is extremely sweet and gentle. She loves wet food, windows, catnip toys, and your lap. She is a super lap kitty who would love to hang out with you wherever you are sitting down.

Nat's daughter, Chanterelle, is also looking for a home. If the pair were adopted together, there would only be one adoption fee.

Nat would be good with other cats, cat savvy children, and could be introduced to a cat friendly dog.

24. Mimi

Young · Female · Tabby / Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat)

Poor Mimi (formerly just called Momma Kitty) was a momma cat to a litter of six babies (four that have now found homes) and was living on a concrete sidewalk outside of an apartment building. A nice lady was feeding her. When it rained, Mimi would take the kittens and move them under a bush. When the sun was shining, she fed them on the sidewalk.

A concerned cat lover was worried about the kittens and Mimi and reached out to several people who all got involved to save this sweet girl. Mimi and the kittens were taken inside and began their journey to pampered house cats.

Read more about Mimi

Mimi is still only really a kitten herself at about a year and a half old. She has been spayed, vaccinated, tested negative for feline leukemia/FIV, and treated preventatively for fleas/dewormed.

Mimi is still a little shy and is just learning what it is like to be safe. She is learning how to play and now likes to sleep on the bed with her caregiver. She is learning to trust and is becoming a very, very sweet girl.

We would like to see Mimi adopted with one of her remaining kittens, either Pan (male) or Freya (female). If she is adopted with one of the babies, there is only one adoption fee.

If you would like more information on Mimi, please email us at bandocats@gmail.com and request an adoption application.

29. Snickers

Adult · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed

Meet Snickers — you might also see her listed as Sarabi, the name we knew her by before her adoption. She's a hefty, 6-year-old spayed girl with a lot of presence. We had her since she was a kitten until her adoption last year, and now she's back with us, currently staying in a loving foster home while she waits for her next family (weighed in around 15 pounds at her last adoption).Snickers isn't a lap cat, but she likes to be near her people — she'd rather curl up beside you or share the room than climb into your lap. Her foster mom says she'll stretch out right next to her on the couch, or claim the foot rest the second it's up.She's got a playful side too, especially when there's a bug to hunt down around the house, and she's settled in well with the puppy in her foster home — these days the two of them chase each other around.

Read more about Snickers

She was also comfortable being around dogs during her time at the rescue.Other cats are a bit more of a mixed bag for her. She got along fine with most of the cats here at the rescue, though she wasn't especially friendly with all of them, and there were a few she just didn't care for. Her previous owner tried introducing another cat, and Snickers wasn't open to it — though that introduction didn't get much of a chance before it was called off. With some patience and a cat willing to give her space, she may still do okay in a multi-cat home. She's easy to please on the small stuff. Any litter works for her, though her foster mom has found she seems to prefer clumping sand since it's gentler on her paws. She's currently eating 4Health grain-free, and she's a nibbler who grazes through her food rather than eating it all in one go.If you're looking for a substantial, steady girl who wants company without needing constant attention, Snickers would love to meet you. Her adoption fee is $75.If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application. We do not adopt to anyone who wants to declaw, but we do not advertise that fact until after the person fills out the application--we do not want them to lie to us if they know they cannot get the cat and declaw. We have them sign an agreement that the cat will come back to us if for any reason they do not want it.

How to adopt from Adopt A Pit Rescue Inc

Applicants must fill out an application at www.adoptapitrescue.org/apply. We screen all applications, with approved applicants passing a vet and landlord check. All pets in the home must be spayed/neutered and up to date on all vaccinations and on year-round heartworm preventative. Non-homeowners must have permission from their landlord to have a dog. Once approved, we schedule a home visit, where an adoption representative takes the dog to the adopter's home to see if the dog is a good fit for the family and other pets, as well as verify the home is a safe environment for the dog. If everyone feels the dog is a good fit, a contract is signed, adoption fee is paid, and the family takes possession of the dog, unless other arrangements are made. Typical adoption fees are $175 for adult dogs and $200 for puppies. We reserve the right to charge different fees for "designer" breeds. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested, and on heartworm preventative at the time of adoption. All dogs have been examined by our veterinarian and given a clean bill of health at the time of adoption.

Adopting a cat in Miami County

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
