3. Winston

Adult · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 67 mi from Providence

Meet Your New Best Friend!
Looking for a low-maintenance companion who appreciates the finer things in life—like a long nap on the couch? That's me! I am definitely not a high-energy feline. Since I came from the streets, l am much more of a relaxed couch potato, and I'm completely proud of it. I love a quiet routine, gazing out the window at the world, or settling in for some Cat TV to watch and listen to the wildlife.
When it comes to affection, I prefer petting on my own terms. Too much petting can overstimulate me, so I like to be the one to dictate when it's time for physical love. But just so you know, my two absolute favorite spots to be pet and scratched are on top of my head and right under my chin!
I'm independent but very communicative. When it's mealtime or I'm in the mood for a quick game, I'll come find you. If you happen to be distracted when I really need your attention, l might give you a gentle, polite nibble on your hand or arm. But don't worry—| always follow it up with immediate licks to remind you that I mean no harm! It's just my quirky way of sending a text message. When we do play, my absolute favorites are chasing things on a string and hiding in a cat tunnel to swat at dangling toys.
Bedtime is when I spend the most time with you and when I start to PURR. I have a routine every night: first, I'll get to work happily making biscuits on the blankets. Then, I absolutely love having my head and under my chin scratched while we wind down. Once I've had my fill, I'll contentedly plop myself down at the foot of the bed to sleep through the night with you.
If you're looking for a sweet, predictable, and independent companion to share your peaceful home, I'm ready to meet you!

6. Tinker

Adult (6 years 3 months) · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 66 mi from Providence

Meet Tinker!

A sweet and shy six-year-old Domestic Short Hair currently in Franklin Square, NY, whose gentle personality comes wrapped in a striking white coat decorated with handsome gray patches.

At around 22 pounds, Tinker is a wonderfully big boy with a tender heart! He can be timid when first getting comfortable, but patience gives this affectionate fellow the chance to show just how loving he can be. Once Tinker feels secure, he enjoys affection, being picked up, and spending time with the people he trusts. Show him love, and he has a charming way of returning it right back!

Read more about Tinker

Tinker also has a playful side waiting to emerge. He enjoys a variety of interactive cat toys, including favorites from brands such as Frisco and Catstages. He has amusing little habits that add personality to his days, and his vocal nature means his family can expect the occasional feline commentary, too! This indoor gentleman currently lives alongside other cats. Tinker may be timid around feline companions at first, but he can become playful and tolerant once he has time to settle in. Because Tinker has reacted to dogs, he needs a loving home without canine companions.

Tinker is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and has a clean bill of health. His new family should be committed to keeping him safely indoors, giving him time to adjust at his own pace, and treating him as a cherished member of the family.

One companion is already especially close to Tinker’s heart: his brother, Kittycat. These brothers have been together their entire lives and Tinker would love to be adopted with Kittycat if possible.

9. Cricket and Daphne

Kitten (6 months) · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 66 mi from Providence

Meet Cricket and Daphne!

Two bonded six-month-old Domestic Short Hair kittens currently in Vancouver, WA, whose gentle hearts, playful spirits, and serious enthusiasm for lap time make them an especially lovable pair.

Read more about Cricket and Daphne

Cricket, a handsome gray and tan tabby boy, is the resident belly-rub enthusiast! Once he feels comfortable, he wants nothing more than to settle onto a lap, face forward for television time, expose his tummy, and collect as much affection as possible. Belly rubs, neck scratches, sweet conversation, and his favorite pink toy mouse are among his greatest pleasures! When he cannot find his person or feels attention is overdue, Cricket even produces an adorable little “dissatisfied grunt” to summon assistance.

Daphne, a beautiful gray tabby and white girl, has her own charming communication system. She makes a tiny, high-pitched peep when she cannot find her person or would like more attention. She is also developing quite a passion for burrowing beneath blankets and shirts, because apparently ordinary snuggling simply is not close enough! Jingly balls, wand toys, cozy hidey holes, and lap time keep this affectionate girl very happy.

Both kittens are sensitive and shy at first, but their playful sides emerge as they become comfortable. They romp with other cats and can be wonderfully rambunctious together! Neither particularly enjoys being picked up, so a family who lets affection happen on their terms will help them continue building confidence.

Most importantly, Cricket and Daphne have a special bond. Their companionship helps these sensitive kittens feel secure, and they need to be adopted together so they can continue experiencing new adventures side by side.

They are friendly with other cats and suitable for calm, respectful older children. Both are shy around dogs and prefer keeping their distance. They need an indoor-only, peaceful, patient home with plenty of affection, play, companionship, and time to adjust.

Cricket is neutered, and Daphne’s spay is being scheduled. Both are up to date on vaccinations and have no known health concerns. Is there room on your lap for two sweet little shadows who plan to stay close? To learn more about adopting Cricket and Daphne together, contact adopt@joyfulpets.com!

10. Dennis

Kitten (6 months) · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 66 mi from Providence

Meet Dennis!

A snuggly six-month-old Domestic Short Hair kitten currently in Vancouver, WA, whose dashing tuxedo coat comes wrapped around a gentle, playful boy with an impressive talent for turning eye contact into cuddle requests.

Dennis may be a little timid while getting comfortable, but patience and gentleness reveal his wonderfully affectionate personality. Once he knows his people, this love bug wants to be close! When Dennis is looking for attention, he has an especially charming routine: he reaches out, gives a tiny squeak, and fixes you with an intense gaze that makes his message wonderfully clear. Hug me, please!

Read more about Dennis

And hugs are serious business for Dennis. Being held and snuggled is one of his favorite things, and he enjoys spending time near his people. If he finds himself alone, he may quietly call once or twice until he locates his favorite humans. Then comes the affection!

Dennis also has plenty of kitten energy. He loves chasing, climbing, play fighting with other cats, and pursuing toys tossed across the room. His funniest obsession is the fuzzy fabric he has enthusiastically removed from fluffy toys. Once Dennis has liberated one of these treasured scraps, he will happily race around carrying his prize, apparently convinced he has discovered the greatest toy ever invented!

This social boy is friendly with other cats and would benefit from feline companionship or a family with someone home regularly. He is gentle and comfortable with children of all ages. His compatibility with dogs is unknown because he has not had enough experience with them yet. Dennis needs an indoor-only loving home where he can have time to adjust, plenty of play, companionship, and, naturally, an excellent supply of cuddles.

Dennis is neutered and up to date on vaccinations, with no known health concerns. His combination of sweetness, silliness, and affection promises plenty of joyful moments for the family who welcomes him.

11. Charlie

Kitten (6 months) · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 66 mi from Providence

Meet Charlie!

A confident six-month-old Domestic Short Hair kitten currently in Vancouver, WA, whose adventurous spirit and affectionate heart are wrapped in a beautiful tan tabby coat.

Charlie is the kind of girl who knows how to make her own fun! Independent and curious, she is happy entertaining herself when her family is away, but when playtime begins, she is ready for action. Springs and wand toys are favorites, although anything she can chase is likely to earn her enthusiastic approval! She also enjoys tumbling and playing with other cats, including both her siblings and older feline friends.

Read more about Charlie

For all that independence, Charlie has a wonderfully affectionate side. When she is feeling especially content, she turns into a champion biscuit maker, kneading away while her purr motor provides the soundtrack! She enjoys being held, seeks out affection, and has even started experimenting with laps. Her current technique is delightfully Charlie: settle comfortably just a few inches away, then occasionally decide that climbing aboard might actually be pretty nice.

Friendly with family and strangers, Charlie is also comfortable and gentle with children of all ages. She is accustomed to other cats and would be compatible with feline companions, but her confidence means she can also be placed on her own. Her compatibility with dogs is unknown because she has not had enough experience with them yet.

Charlie is spayed and up to date on vaccinations, with no known health issues. She needs an indoor-only loving home with a family who will give her time to adjust while continuing to offer plenty of play, affection, companionship, and opportunities to explore safely. She will even bring along her favorite bed and toys to help make her transition more familiar.

With her playful confidence, impressive biscuit-making skills, and charming combination of independence and affection, Charlie is ready to bring laughter, purrs, and lively adventures to her next chapter! 13. Peanut

Senior · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Calico (short coat) · 67 mi from Providence

I’m a sweet 15-year-old girl who recently lost my person, and my world has changed a lot. I’m shy right now and still missing the person I loved, so I could really use some extra love, patience, and understanding.
I’d be happiest in a quiet home where I can feel safe and settle in at my own pace. I’m fine with other cats, and beneath my shyness is a gentle girl who just wants to feel loved again.
I’ve lost my person, but I’m hoping I haven’t lost my chance at a loving home.

14. Gwynnie

Adult (3 years 7 months) · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 66 mi from Providence

Meet Gwynnie!

A sweet three-and-a-half-year-old Domestic Short Hair currently in Oceanside, CA, whose affectionate spirit and playful personality shine through her sleek black coat.

Read more about Gwynnie

Gwynnie is a people-loving girl who knows how to make cuddle time extra special! Settle into a comfy spot, and she may climb onto your lap and begin making her adorable “happy paws,” kneading away while enjoying your company. She does not particularly enjoy being held, but she loves choosing closeness on her own terms. She can be shy initially, then blossoms into a friendly companion once she feels comfortable. She has a special fondness for men and happily gravitates toward the men in her family.

When Gwynnie is ready for action, she makes her intentions charmingly clear by bringing her favorite toy to her people! She loves chasing toys up and down the stairs, relaxing on her cat perch, enjoying treats, and enthusiastically celebrating wet food. Life with Gwynnie offers a delightful combination of playful bursts, cozy lap time, and plenty of feline personality!

Gwynnie needs to be the only cat in her new loving home. She has become increasingly uncomfortable sharing her environment with other cats, including hissing, swatting, and occasional marking outside her litter box. However, there's wonderful news! Since being given her own separate space away from the other cat, Gwynnie has stopped marking entirely and consistently uses her litter box. This encouraging improvement suggests that a calm, cat-free environment may help her maintain these positive habits.

Gwynnie has no bite history and has not shown aggression toward people. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. She is compatible with calm, respectful, school-age children and older. Her compatibility with dogs has not been assessed. A gradual transition, beginning in a comfortable contained space before expanding her access, will help her settle in.

Gwynnie needs a family who enjoys companionship and can spend plenty of time with her. Could this happy-pawed, toy-delivering girl be the companion ready to brighten your days? To learn more about adopting Gwynnie, contact adopt@joyfulpets.com!

18. Stewart

Adult (2 months 23 days) · Male · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) · 87 mi from Providence

Happiness, joy, and pure love really do come in one tiny, fluffy package—and his name is Stewart (aka Stewie).

Once we discovered that the secret to his heart is a good scratch behind the ears, Stewie quickly decided humans are his favorite thing (tied with his beloved rattle ball). He has an industrial-strength purr motor—and when he’s extra happy, he adds in a drooly little “love bonus.” Yes, it’s as adorable as it sounds.

Stewart is also very vocal—he’ll happily “talk” to you, and make it clear when he’s ready for pets. He’s an easy kitten to read and loves that back-and-forth interaction with his people.

Read more about Stewart

Don’t let his clingy singleton-kitten past fool you—Stewart is the best of both worlds. He’s perfectly content entertaining himself during the day, and by night he is ready for full-time snuggles.

Stewart gets along well with other cats, has a heart of gold, and carries around the sweetest, most positive little outlook on life. Whether your home is big or small, full of kids or calm and quiet, Stewart will fit right in and love you endlessly. He hasn’t met a dog yet, but with a gentle intro, we think he’d do just fine.

If you’re looking for a social, playful, affectionate, certified lover boy with top-tier snuggles and unmatched charm, then Stewie is your guy.

Stewart was born on June 16, 2026, and is currently being fostered in Southington. He will be fixed, up-to-date on shots, and has tested for FIV/FeLV.

All of our cats and kittens are cared for in loving foster homes. "Meet and Greets" can be arranged only after an application has been submitted and approved.

Applications for adoption can be found at our website at www.fosterandforever.org.

19. Madam

Senior (11 years 1 month) · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 66 mi from Providence

Meet Madam!

An affectionate eleven-year-old Domestic Short Hair currently in Reading, MA, whose essence is pure companionship wrapped in a sleek black coat and a wonderfully chatty personality.

At 12 pounds, Madam is a large, loving girl who believes life is better when her favorite humans are nearby! She is the kind of cat who greets you when you arrive, curls up beside you for a cozy snuggle, and happily keeps the conversation going with her signature vocal commentary. Think of her as a dog in a cat’s body, complete with enthusiastic greetings, constant companionship, and plenty of opinions to share!

Read more about Madam

Madam adores attention and would thrive with a person or family who is home regularly and enjoys having a devoted lap cat nearby. Daily petting and brushing are right up her alley, but she has a playful side, too! Small mouse toys are her absolute favorites, and she enjoys chasing them and batting at wand toys. Even at eleven, she knows how to make playtime fun!

This gentle girl is comfortable with children of all ages. She has been wonderful around school-aged children and has also been gentle with a two-year-old. Strangers do not faze her either. Even unfamiliar visitors and contractors are simply more people Madam might get to know!

Madam needs to be the only cat in her new loving home. Her compatibility with dogs has not been assessed. A senior, retired person, or family with plenty of time at home could be especially compatible with her affectionate, people-centered nature.

Madam has diabetes, which is currently managed with a once-daily pill given in soft food. Her recent lab work showed that her medication is working well, and her vaccinations are up to date. She is also spayed and microchipped. Her hind legs are weak, so she takes stairs slowly and would benefit from having her food, water, and litter box conveniently nearby.

Her new family will also receive her food, automatic feeder, water fountain, litter box, and toys to help make her transition comfortable and familiar. Madam is ready to fill her next chapter with cuddles, conversations, playful mouse chases, and loyal companionship! Could this sweet, talkative girl be the companion you have been waiting to welcome home? To learn more about adopting Madam, contact adopt@joyfulpets.com.

22. Michelle

Kitten (6 months) · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) · 87 mi from Providence

Meet Michelle!

This beautiful little tabby girl with a freckle on her nose was found in a colony with her brother, Mitch. She was born around the beginning of April 2026. She is a little shy still, but has come a long, long way. She is a lap cat in the making. She will cuddle on her foster mom's shoulder and purr. She loves to be pet, and loves her Churu treats. She now will sit on foster mom's lap and get pets.

Michelle is being fostered with six other kittens, but is very independent. She is usually found curled up alone and occasionally with another cat. She would do well in a quieter home, and she may be OK as an only cat or with another friendly cat to show her the way. Older children would be ok.

Michelle was born around April 2026, and is currently being fostered in Waterbury. She is fixed, up-to-date on shots, and tested negative for FIV/FeLV.

24. Jonesy

Adult (9 years) · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 74 mi from Providence

Hi, I’m Jonesy. ❤️

I may be a little shy when we first meet, but underneath that cautious exterior is a very sweet girl who truly loves people. Once I feel comfortable, I’m happiest when my humans are nearby. I’ll look for you, enjoy your attention, and simply be happy knowing I have someone to call my own.

I’m a senior lady, and at this stage of my life, I’m not looking for anything complicated. I’m looking for a quiet, peaceful home where I can settle in, feel safe, and be loved. A soft place to nap, a kind person to keep me company, and a little patience while I find my confidence would mean the world to me.

Read more about Jonesy

I think I could do well with respectful children who understand that an older girl like me may need a little time to warm up. I would prefer to be the only pet in the home, without dogs or cats, so I can enjoy all the attention myself.

I’ve got so much love left to give. I just need someone willing to see past my initial shyness and give a sweet senior girl the chance to spend her golden years knowing what it feels like to truly belong. Maybe that someone is you.

25. Appa & Little

Adult · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 67 mi from Providence

We’re Appa and Little, and we’ve been together through life’s changes. When our previous owner could no longer care for us, we found ourselves looking for a new beginning. We’ve always had each other, and we’re hoping our next chapter is one we get to share too. That’s why we’re looking for a home where we can stay together forever.
I’m Appa, the big guy—the extra-large black cat with an even bigger heart. I’m 8 years old, quiet, playful, and a little shy when we first meet. New situations can make me feel timid, so I need someone who understands that trust takes time. Once I feel safe, I really enjoy being brushed—it’s one of my favorite ways to relax. I’m not a fan of being picked up, but I’m happy to show my affection in my own quiet way.
And I’m Little, a 5-year-old gray tabby with a gentle soul. I can be shy at first too, but once I know you’re kind, I’m incredibly loving. I adore being petted and will happily soak up all the gentle attention you’re willing to give.
We’re both sweet, quiet boys who would love a peaceful home where we can blossom at our own pace. We’re good with other cats and respectful older children, but dogs aren’t really our thing.
If you’re looking for not one, but two loyal best friends, we promise we’re worth the patience. All we need is a little time, a lot of love, and the chance to stay together—just as we’ve always been.

26. Bear Bear

Kitten (6 months) · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) · 87 mi from Providence

No, my foster mommy didn’t make a typo...my name is “Bear Bear”, not Bear! I am a sleek panther with my stunning black fur. I’m shy in the beginning until curiosity sets in.

I was found in Naugatuck with no mommy. Opal, Harvey’s mommy, took me under her wings and I thrived. It was difficult growing up with Harvey. He is bossy. Please don’t tell him.

I love playing with Harvey and my mommy. I can outrun and out-climb them. Playing king of the kitty tower is my favorite game. I am king of the jungle and no one gets the top but me. I love sleeping on the big bed. I will even allow you to sleep on the big bed.

Introducing the one and only Marco! Marco is a 1.5 year old, fully-vetted, handsome little boy with A LOT to say and a lot to do. He is a very affectionate talkative little boy who wants to supervise and critique your every move. Marco came to our rescue when his owner moved and left him behind. He is a wonderful cat that gets along well with other cats, and tolerates what he considers creatures of lesser value...namely dogs. He would be great with both kids and adults and loves a good head rub. 29. Bill

Young · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 67 mi from Providence

Bill is an all black, short haired, 2 year old male cat who was living with a group of feral cats. He was trapped and brought to be neutered and was going to be returned to his home as he was also thought to be feral. Turns out he’s not! It only took a day to suspect he wasn’t like the others but it took a fair amount of time for him to trust the humans again. He now purrs like a champ when you scratch starting from his head and go all of the way down his back to his tail. He greets you with his tiny hoarse meow when it’s mealtime and catches the feather wand and just holds it like it’s a real bird.

Read more about Bill

He also loves the fuzzy worm on a stick toy. He seems to be quite content to have left the outdoor life behind and has become a couch potato. He is good with other cats and tolerant of older respectful children but since the foster has no dogs we aren’t sure how he would do with them.

Hi, I’m Roni.
I’m a 5-year-old tuxedo lady with big curious eyes and a gentle heart. Life changed unexpectedly when my previous owner could no longer care for me, but I’m hoping my next chapter is just around the corner.
I can be a little shy when we first meet—new places and new people can be a lot for a girl to take in. But if you give me a little patience, I’ll show you my sweet side. Once I feel comfortable, I absolutely welcome love, pets, and all the gentle attention you have to offer.
I get along well with other cats and would be happy to share my home with a feline friend. Dogs aren’t really my thing, and I’d do best in a home with older children who understand that sometimes I need a little time to settle in.
What I’m looking for most is a family that will let me be myself—a quiet, loving home where I can blossom at my own pace and become your loyal companion.
Could you be the one to give me the fresh start I’ve been waiting for?

Adopting a cat with children in Providence

Bring the whole family to meet the cat before you adopt, and ask the rescue how the cat behaves around children your kids' ages.

Teach children to let the cat come to them, to stroke gently, and to leave the cat alone while it's eating, sleeping or using the litter box. Give the cat a high or quiet spot to retreat to.

Relaxed adult cats are often a better match for young children than kittens, which scratch and nip while they play.
