1. Snuffleupagus

Young (2 months 14 days) · Male · Tabby / Mixed (medium coat)

Meet Snuffleupagus, a sweet gray-and-white kitty with a shy side and a heart that just needs a little time to feel safe. Like his Sesame Street namesake, Snuffleupagus may be a little elusive at first, but with patience, kindness, and a loving home, he deserves the chance to come out of his shell and shine!

Read more about Snuffleupagus

Snuffleupagus is bonded with his best friend, Zoe, a sweet torbie girl who helps him feel more comfortable. These two are looking for a special person who understands that the shyest kitties can have so much love to give once they learn to trust. They may need a little extra time to settle in, but watching them grow in confidence will be a reward all its own.

Could you be the patient, loving human who gives Snuffleupagus and Zoe the safe home they’ve been waiting for? Sometimes the most beautiful friendships just need a chance to bloom.

We want to make adopting easy for you! Here’s our application: https://form.jotform.com/232837730565159 Once you complete it, we’re on it! We’ll call your vet (or personal reference) the next business day. Then we like to do a brief video chat (FaceTime if you have it) so you can show us your new pet’s home - where they’ll sleep, eat, and play. During our chat, we can also give you tips or answer questions about how to successfully integrate your new family member into your household, especially if you have other pets. Our adoption fee is $150 and covers our costs of spay/neuter, vaccinations, vet exam, and supplies. (Once old enough, all our cats are current on their shots and have been spayed/neutered.) We’re a strictly no-kill shelter just for cats. We’re cage-free, donation-based, and volunteer-powered. We’re small but special and we’re glad you found us! 4. Oscar

Young (2 months 14 days) · Male · Tabby / Bobtail / Mixed (medium coat)

We found Oscar (the Grouch) and four of his baby friends Oscar, Abby, Zoe, and Snuffleupagus at the local waste transfer station. They were hiding under industrial trash compactors.

We feared they would be “compacted”. After hours, our intrepid volunteer spent a lovely cold Friday night trapping them. Originally she was looking for 2 kittens but it turned out to be FIVE!!

Read more about Oscar

Meet Oscar, a handsome white-and-orange boy with a little bit of a grumpy exterior and a soft spot for affection. He may take a little time to warm up to new people, but once he feels comfortable, he absolutely loves being petted. Oscar is a reminder that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover—or a kitten by his resting grumpy face! Give him a little patience, and you may just discover your new favorite cuddle buddy.

12. Bingo

Young (6 months) · Female · Tabby / Mixed (short coat)

Meet Bingo! Bingo has a big personality in a little kitten body. Bingo is a confident girl who knows what she wants: to play, to explore, and to get pets, on her terms. Bingo is high energy and doesn't appreciate being held, because how can you run around and play while being held?! When she decides it's time for her human to get attention, she will jump up on their shoulder and give a kiss or two. Bingo loves chasing the laser pointer, the wand toy, and her brothers. She is litterbox trained and has done well with her foster's toddler, but would likely do best with older kids who respect her space and don't want to pick her up all the time. Bingo would also likely do well with another playful cat in the home since she prefers kitty playmates over human playmates.

ONLINE ADOPTION FORM:

https://form.jotform.com/81848821130152

We do not have a fixed adoption fee at For The Cats' Sake, but instead ask for a tax-deductible donation to our group. On average, we spend over $250 to cover spay and neutering, testing for FeLV and FIV, vaccinations, flea treatment, deworming and any vet care/medicine that is needed. We ask for a minimum donation of $80 per cat, and that adopters pay more if they are able to. Our goal is to find the best home for each animal, and we feel this policy makes it possible for more people to adopt one or more cats. It is important to us that every adopter can afford to care for their pets properly and give them a home for life.

22. July

Adult (3 years 3 months) · Female · Tortoiseshell / Mixed (short coat)

July was rescued from a very hot shed near a local restaurant (a good Samaritan saw one of her babies fall out the window and called us!) where this gorgeous mama was trying to survive and feed her two kittens. It was a sweltering day but our manager was determined to give this family a better life. July's babies have been adopted and now it's her turn. She's a healthy 3 yr old and a very sweet gentle girl who welcomes your pets. She gets along well with other cats. She's a cat who'll bond deeply with you.

25. Billie

Young (5 months 30 days) · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

BRUCE and BILLIE are ready for their forever home. These adorable bonded brothers are 6 months old, soft as velvet, and full of kitten playfulness. They are getting bored with their kitten area as they are so full of curiosity and love to have attention and things to explore. At breakfast and dinner, they like to hang on the screen door just so we don't forget to feed them

They would make wonderful family kitties, and are confident and friendly as we have had them since they were small. If you would like to come meet these bonded brothers, please fill out our ONLINE ADOPTION FORM:

27. Lana

Adult (2 years 3 months) · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

LANA is a super sweet little female, who came to us with her 2 kittens, and she was a wonderful mom to them, but is happy to find a home on her own. In fact she would be happy as an only cat in a medium to quiet home. When dinner time comes, LANA sits on the chair and asks if we could please give her a bowl of her own, because she's not really into communal dining, so of course we do. She came from a colony in Rappahannock county and has one front paw that is a little wonky. It doesn't seem to cause her any issues but does make her even cuter. LANA would be a lovely companion cat, so if you think she might be your new friend and family member, please fill out the application and come to visit her. We estimate she's around 2 years old.

30. Striker

Kitten (5 months 22 days) · Male · Tabby / Mixed (short coat)

With his movie-star good looks, Striker definitely lives up to his name. The biggest boy of the litter, he’s full of confidence, curiosity, and playful energy. One of his favorite hobbies is climbing onto your shoulders to investigate—and rummaging through your hair while he’s there! He’s always ready for the next adventure and would love a family that enjoys an entertaining, affectionate kitten with a big personality.

Adopting a cat in Hampshire County

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
