1. Svengoolie

Adult (2 years) · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 17 mi from Elgin

Meet Svengoolie!

He may look a little rough around the edges, but this Svengoolie is not scary at all! This sweet orange tabby boy has had a rough start in life. For his first two years, he endured a hoarding situation. His disposition shows that he must have received plenty of love, but his body condition shows that there was likely not enough food to go around. Sven is looking for a home where he will be able to count on having enough food at each meal to help him put on a little weight and develop a shiny, healthy coat of fur. He has a healthy appetite and is good with his litter box, and should thrive in a home environment.

Read more about Svengoolie

Sven just arrived at our cat center and started out very shy, hiding behind his blankets. As soon as he realized he was safe, he allowed himself to soak up all of the love our volunteers have to give. Sven comes out of his hiding spot as soon as we open his condo door. He leans his head into hands for pets, and immediately starts making biscuits and purring. He is one of those cats that likes to make sure that you are petting him with both hands!

Given his background, Sven needs a quiet home where he will be able to settle in at his own pace. He would likely do well with another cat in the home, but at this time dogs and young kids would be too much for him. He does give an occasional love bite when you are petting him, so his adopters should know how to gently redirect. We rescued him from his previous situation, but you can save him by giving him the loving home that he deserves.

Svengoolie
is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations,

, and litter box trained.

6. Brody

Young · Male · Siberian / Nebelung / Mixed · 16 mi from Elgin

Meet Brody — The gentle sweetheart with a brave spirit! This handsome boy is one of the most cuddly kitties you could every hope to meet. Rescued as a stray, Brody has blossomed in his foster home, where he has discovered just how wonderful life can be. He loves snuggling with his human, making biscuits and purring up a storm. He's also wonderfully expressive about his desire for additional pets: He'll softly nudge his foster's hand toward him and provide head bumps to make sure the message is received. And he absolutely adores having his belly rubbed! His favorite place is wherever his people are and he'd much rather be in the same room with his family than off doing his own thing. But when he's not lounging on a lap or sleeping beside his person, he enjoys zooming through his cat tunnel, chasing balls, batting at wand toys and playing with his scratcher.

Read more about Brody

And did someone say catnip? Count Brody in!Then there are the treats. Brody is obsessed! Open the package and he'll come running. His foster says his superpower might be mind control, because he can easily convince anyone to feed him crunchy and lickable snacks all day long. Brody's story makes his transformation especially touching. When his foster found him, he was just skin and bones, likely having suffered significant neglect and possibly abuse (someone had even shaved his beautiful blue-gray coat). Yet, despite everything he'd been through, Brody immediately allowed pets and looked up hopefully, as if asking to be rescued. In the comfort of his foster home, Brody has become the affectionate, playful and trusting boy he was meant to be. His gorgeous fur is growing back and beneath it is a kitty boy with an even more beautiful heart and brave spirit. He has great manners and has been fine in a household with older, respectful children. He can be fearful of pushy cats who don't respect his boundaries, so he may be happiest as your one-and-only kitty. Still, his foster believes he could also do well with a gentle, well-mannered cat buddy, following a slow, thoughtful introduction. Because this sweet, bright-eyed boy with a fluffy tail craves attention, he'll do best in a home where his people have plenty of time to devote to him. He's thrived in a tranquil home, so a calm-to-moderate household may be ideal.Brody has come such a long way — and so deserves a forever home where he can spend his days being spoiled, cherished and very, very loved. 12. Bailey

Adult · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 16 mi from Elgin

Meet Bailey! A beautiful girl with a sweet, timid nature looking for the right person to bring her home.Bailey had a bit of a rough start, being abandoned at a pet store. She was confused and didn't understand why her former owners left her, but after only a few weeks of love from her foster, her personality has begun to truly shine.Bailey is very chatty in the morning, updating you on all the happenings overnight while you were sleeping. She is very inquisitive and likes to watch you do pretty much anything!Like any high class lady, Bailey knows exactly what she likes and what she doesn’t like. Her two great loves are brushing, and wand toys.

Read more about Bailey

She will jump up to sit next to you as soon as you pat the brush on the bed. She loves for you to show your devotion by brushing her beautiful torbie coat. Bailey is also very playful! She enjoys her scratching post, and chasing balls around, but her most favorite are wand toys. She'll happily chase a wand toy, jump up in the air, and roll over on her back when playing. She will use both paws to catch it, like she's catching a bug.As far as what she doesn’t like, Bailey will let you definitely know. One look and her RBF will tell you when you’re about to go too far. If you miss the look she will gently send a paw your way, so make sure to pay attention. She doesn’t use her claws, just a light tap to let you know her boundaries are being pushed. She is iffy about her cat tree so far, preferring cozier spots for her nap time. Bailey likes pets on her head/behind the ears. While she is not a lap cat or a cuddler per say, she will sit next to you for long periods of time, so she would be a great companion for someone who enjoys watching TV or movies on the couch. Netflix and purrs anyone? She is also a stealthy nighttime snuggler and likes to be the little spoon.Bailey needs someone who understands she is going to be shy (at first) and is ok with taking it slow. Bailey will blossom in a home where she is either with another adult cat or the solo cat. She would thrive in a quiet, low key home, with someone who can give her space and support at the same time. She absolutely enjoys human company; Bailey has lots of affection to give, and wants to give it. Are you going to be the lucky one who takes this beautiful girl home? 15. Horatio

Adult · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 16 mi from Elgin

Meet Horatio: Lottery Winner Horatio won the lottery when he was rescued from life on the streets and taken into his foster home. His foster mom brought him out of his shell and is teaching him how to live the good life of a much loved house cat. Horatio is learning that he no longer has to scavenge for every meal; that food is plentiful and presented to him regularly. Still, he’s always ready for more lest it be in short supply again. What a happy task to reinforce in him that he will always be given nice meals and treats. This handsome boy is also learning the finer points of playing. He hunts his catnip mouse like the pro he is, and chases the confounding red dot coming from a laser pointer.

Read more about Horatio

He also enjoys being brushed a bit and will gently let you know when he’s had enough. Horatio quickly learned to appreciate a kind and loving human, and he always likes to be nearby. He’s happy to sit with you on the couch and occasionally might even climb into your lap. His manners are impeccable; he will never ask you to change the channel, but he will ask you to serve him a snack to munch on while he watches along. Fair enough, we all love TV snacks, right? His preference is for crunchy treats, and he also loves Churu tubes; he is still learning inside manners and hasn’t quite got the hang of just licking it as it comes out of the tube. His experience has been that you have to bite right down on the packaging to get to the good stuff inside. Regardless, he will always say thank you and offer up his head and cheek for gentle scritches. This lovely kitty has been in a quiet home with just his foster mom. He will fully come into his House Cat Era if he remains in a quiet and calm environment. While he has not been exposed to other indoor kitties, he might love to have a buddy if properly and carefully introduced. Another compatible cat could encourage his playful side and show him the ropes of being boss to a well trained human. Horatio is a beautiful cat and a wonderful companion. He has put his street days behind him and is ready to reciprocate the love of kind and gentle humans who offer him the life to which he is quickly becoming accustomed. 18. đź’— Rivendell

Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair · 16 mi from Elgin

This queen of Middle-earth would very much like someone to spoil her rotten.Meet Rivendell, or Riv, as she's affectionately known. She's a breathtakingly beautiful, incredibly sweet young lady who loves her people, appreciates a good petting session, and has absolutely no problem letting you know when she's had enough. At just one or two years old, Riv has already lived quite a life. She grew up on the streets, found her way into foster care, and raised four rambunctious little boys with an incredible amount of love and patience. She's been a wonderful mother, and now that her kittens are ready to find homes of their own, it's finally her turn to be spoiled.Named after the legendary Elven refuge in Middle-earth, Rivendell is ready for a little peace and tranquility of her own.

Read more about đź’— Rivendell

No more adventures, no more battles, and absolutely no more sharing her kingdom. After everything she's accomplished, we think she's more than earned it.Riv is genuinely affectionate and people-loving. She enjoys being near her humans, hanging out while you go about your day, and purring away during a good petting session. She's even perfectly happy being picked up, provided you understand that she's the one who decides when the experience is over. She's affectionate without being a Velcro cat, independent without being distant, and full of the kind of personality that makes a cat truly unforgettable. She has excellent boundaries, as long as things are exactly on her terms. Totally reasonable. And like any respectable ruler of Middle-earth, Riv knows when the audience is over. It's important that her future humans recognize her signals and respect her space. Even the elves of Rivendell understood the importance of a little peace and quiet.Riv needs an experienced cat owner who understands feline body language and appreciates a cat with a personality. She must be the only pet in the home, with no other cats, dogs, or children. After raising four boys, she's officially retired from sharing her kingdom, and we fully support her decision. But don't mistake her independence for a lack of affection. Riv is an incredibly loving, friendly, trusting little soul. Despite growing up outdoors, she genuinely adores human companionship. She doesn't need to be the center of attention every moment, but she absolutely wants to be part of your life. She's looking for her very own Last Homely House: a comfortable, peaceful home, someone who appreciates her wonderful quirks, plenty of affection on her terms, and the kind of love and security she deserves.Rivendell has spent the first part of her life surviving and the next raising a family. Now it's her turn to be someone's whole world. No more streets. No more motherhood. Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 16 mi from Elgin

Meet Scooter – The Wheel-Running Wonder Who Comes When You Call! Scooter is the total package: adorable, affectionate, playful, and full of personality. With her bright eyes, expressive chirps, and affectionate nature, this sweet girl has a way of making everyone feel special.Scooter is an incredible little survivor. When first rescued, she was dragging her back legs and faced an uncertain future. After months of laser therapy, acupuncture treatments, and lots of determination, she has made a remarkable recovery. Today, Scooter walks, runs, plays, and zooms around the house with enthusiasm. She still has a slight wobble in her back end and does a charming little hop when she runs, but don't let that fool you—this girl can move! And we mean M-O-V-E!One of Scooter's favorite things in the world is showing off on her exercise wheel.

Read more about Scooter

She'll happily hop on for a run, then immediately glance over her shoulder to make sure you're watching. That’s your cue to pull out the pom-poms and tell Scooter what a good job she's doing—this girl absolutely thrives on praise and loves being admired for her athletic skills! When she's not perfecting her wheel-running technique, you'll find Scooter playing with other kitty friends, tossing around catnip and crinkle toys, or curling up in a warm lap for some well-earned cuddles. Call for her from anywhere in your home, and you'll hear her cheerful chirp response as she races over to greet you and continue the conversation. While filling you in on the latest gossip, Scooter loves to be pet, adores head scratches, and will happily snuggle up with you at bedtime. As much as Scooter loves her people, she also needs a feline friend. She’s made friends with adult cats and kittens in her foster home and absolutely loves having a cat buddy. Scooter would do best in a quiet to semi-quiet home. Loud noises can startle her, and this little girl is afraid of the dark, curling into your side at bedtime for some reassuring cuddles. She would be a wonderful match for a family with older children who understand her sensitive side and can give her the gentle companionship she enjoys.Due to her previous injury, Scooter does have some specific litterbox requirements. Her wobbly walk and bunny hopping means she will need a home with large, high entry boxes so she can relieve herself with ease. She also gets small daily stretching exercises to help improve her balance and loosen her muscles. She is a queen about doing her PT and immediately after will climb the tallest cat tree and settle in for some bird watching. Her resilience and joyful spirit are truly inspiring! She has overcome so much without ever losing her playful heart or loving nature. Now all she needs is someone who will cheer her on, shower her with affection, and appreciate the amazing little cat she's become. Have you been waiting for a loyal sidekick and snuggly superstar? 20. Druzy

Young · Male · Domestic Short Hair / British Shorthair / Mixed (short coat) · 16 mi from Elgin

I am at The Cat House in Roselle come meet me at my new location! Make sure to make and appointment ahead of time! https://www.thecathouselounge.com/ Apply in advance to get preapproved! Druzy is a stunning mostly-black male with just a splash of white and a lot of personality. This boy successfully fought a tough eye infection which left him with a tiny bit of scarring on one eye, but it doesn't affect him at all! He may be a little shy with people, but don’t let that fool you; give Druzy a tiny bit of time and he’ll be your BFF for life. He adores sunbathing on the cat tree, indulging in wet food, and climbing onto any shelf he can (even if he doesn't totally fit).

Read more about Druzy

He has tons of energy, and for such a big boy, who can blame him? Druzy will spend hours running on a cat wheel or hunting bugs when out on a walk. He will even make the most dramatic little chirps to grab when he wants some attention, usually in the form of a wand toy or spring. He must be adopted with another cat, preferably male, who he can run around with and continue to grow his confidence. One very cool thing about Druzy is that he LOVES to climb! He spends almost every minute of the day six feet in the air on a shelf or cat tree just keeping his bright amber eyes on everything. While he isn't the snuggliest of kitties, Druzy is extremely demanding when it comes to food and attention from his foster, and even from the other kitties! At only a year old, Druzy is looking forward to a life of adventure and love with a furever family. With his cautious behavior, he requires a calm home, potentially with older or respectful kids and more of a suburban vibe than that of the busy city. He loves being brushed and receiving butt scratches and will grow into a confident cat in no time.Druzy is the perfect mix of playfulness and sweetness—if you’re looking for a cat who’s uniquely beautiful inside and out, he’s your guy.Apply at online application (catsfff.org/adopt)View all of our adoptable cats here (catsfff.org/cats)Our adoption fees are listed here (catsfff.org/adoption-fees)

23. Sushi

Adult · Female · Domestic Short Hair · 16 mi from Elgin

Meet Sushi! This girl is ready to LIVE THE DREAM in a home that wants a silly bff. Sushi came to our rescue several years ago with eight adorable kittens that she had to protect on the streets. Sushi now enjoys the attention and interaction of whomever she trusts. She is a very mellow kitty who loves getting pets (or brushed) and lying near her foster parent. She is a PRO at snuggling near you while you watch TV (and giving you a good laugh when you see how she lays).

This handsome Kentucky boy has come such a long way since arriving in foster care. Watching him learn to trust has been one of the sweetest transformations.Till's absolute favorite game is chasing the laser pointer. In fact, his enthusiasm for laser time is how we discovered that he has asthma! He now takes a pill twice a day, but don't let that scare you—he's the easiest patient around.

Raya's story in her own words! My name is Raya, and I may be a bit shy at first, but I have a heart of gold waiting to find my forever home. I'm still learning to trust humans and while I prefer to keep my distance, I don't mind a gentle pet now and then. My favorite things in the world are Churu treats and playing with wand toys — I'm a skilled toy hunter if I do say so myself.I'm a calm presence in the midst of all the action. One of my foster's favorite memories of me is how I stand up and beg for treats or food. Sometimes I scratch at the bedroom door as well. I don't always trust people so I might back away when my wish is granted, but hey, at least I got what I wanted.I've lived with other cats for a long time and can usually get along with most of them.
