7. Pie

Kitten · Female · Domestic Long Hair / Mixed · 98 mi from Columbus

Meet Pie! She’s a beautiful half grown longhaired kitten with a thick black and white coat, and she’s every bit as sweet as her name.Pie was found in the woods by a deer hunter, nowhere near any houses. When he stepped out of his truck, she came running straight to him and climbed right up to his neck. She was starving and filthy. At intake she was at least 5 months old but weighed only 2 lbs 12 oz, when she should be around 5 lbs or more. Her fluffy coat hides it, but when you pet her, all you feel is bones. Our vet found that she broke her back foot at some point when she was younger. It has mostly healed, so there isn’t much to be done, and she will probably always have a limp.

Read more about Pie

Otherwise he said she looks OK and just needs to be fed slowly to regain her weight. Her ears are perfectly clean and she had no fleas. Her white fur was very dirty from trying to survive on her own, but we suspect she lived indoors at one time. She is not microchipped, and no one came forward looking for her.Pie is VERY people oriented and friendly. She was brave enough to ask for help, and now she just wants to be near her people. She’s sure to be a lap cat, and she deserves a home where she can finally relax, fill out, and be loved. Her limp doesn’t seem to slow her down.If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application. 14. Boo

Adult (5 years 1 month) · Female · Domestic Long Hair / Mixed (long coat) · 88 mi from Columbus

Lovely long-haired beauty BOO is a gentle girl looking for a new home to call her own. She's about 5 years old and currently 11 pounds. Boo was adopted from SDHR as a kitten back in 2022 and recently returned. Changes in her home over time, including the arrival of a new baby and the loss of her canine companions proved too stressful for Boo so we agreed to take her back and find her a home environment where she can thrive. She needs a quiet adult-only home. She lived with 2 dogs who were her dear companions and their passing broke her heart. Boo is ideally suited to a home where she will have a friendly canine or feline companion. She needs a patient adopter who will help her settle in to her new life. Boo's long lovely locks will require regular brushing to keep her looking and feeling fabulous. If you'd like to adopt beautiful Boo, please fill out a cat adoption application at dreamhouserescue.org. We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. You can meet Boo at our weekly adoption event, Saturday 11:30am-1:30pm at PetSmart Eastgate.

Our cats are fully vetted and we require indoor-only homes. All other cats and dogs in the home must be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on all vaccines. We will not send cats to home where they will be declawed as it is a harmful practice that can cause lifelong physical and behavioral problems. Our cats are all spayed/neutered, vaccinated, combo tested, dewormed, and microchipped.

20. Cider

Kitten · Male · Domestic Long Hair / Mixed · 98 mi from Columbus

Meet Cider, a kitten with a purr that's way louder than it has any right to be.Cider was found as a sick, tiny stray. A rough case of ringworm cost him his long hair, which is why he looks like a shorthair in his pictures. He's fully cleared now, and the hair is slowly growing back. Whether he ends up fully fluffy again, only time will tell, but he's working on it.He's playful and always looking for attention. He's not a big cuddle bug yet, since he couldn't be held much while he was dealing with the ringworm. Our guess is that will change, because he keeps asking for the attention. If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application.

25. Marble

Young (1 year) · Female · Dilute Tortoiseshell / Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) · 88 mi from Columbus

Marble - where to begin? Someone took her to a shelter - pregnant - but the shelter would not take her in. Someone in the lobby felt sorry for her and took her home.

Marble was in rough shape....all of her kittens died, probably because Marble was malnourished and too young.

We stumbled upon the situation and offered to get several of the people's cats fixed...but when we got Marble home, we realized she was in no condition to have surgery! She was only 4 1/2 pounds! The family agreed to surrender her so we could give her the medical attention she needed.

Read more about Marble

Well fast forward - she is a good as new! So friendly and playful....she LOVES toys and is hilarious! It is hard to get pictures of her because she is always on the go! So fun....we are so happy for her! She is an absolute hoot! She is fostered with cats and is a little bossy....but no one seems to care. She would do fine as an only cat with LOTS of toys!

Born likely fall of 2025, she is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and negative for fiv/felv. Adoption fee $60. Here is our application

Thank you so much for considering a rescued pet as your next family member! People like you extending your faith in second hand pets is what makes our rescue go round. We depend on adoptions to not only enrich the life of our rescue pet, but to save the life of the next one in line, that we can't take until our babies find their new forevers. We want you to know that your time is very valuable to us and we want our entire process to be done in good faith. We need you to be honest with us and we will be honest with you. Any deception found during the application process will be grounds for denial. Requirements: We understand how important your time is and how emotional adding a new pet to the family can be. We are an all volunteer rescue with no paid staff, so we are going to do our best to help you know from the get go if your home environment will be a harmonious fit for what we are looking for in our new adoptive parents. Our checks are extensive, so we ask that you maintain an honest dialogue with us throughout the application. While we believe that any home can become a great one with education, we can not trust applicants that start off on the wrong foot with any untruths during the application process. Your current pets need to be fixed. Unless there is a medical issue or compelling reason that your current pets aren't fixed, we will need to pass on your application. Even though our pets are fixed, elevated levels of hormones in existing pets can cause a greater chanc

Adopting a cat in Columbus

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
