1. Primrose
Adult · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed · 47 mi from Fort Wayne

Primrose was adopted out several years ago. She was recently found as a very skinny stray with a lot of hair loss and fleas. She’s back in our care and will be up for adoption. She has always lived with a dog, but no other cats, and she’s lived with school-age children. Because of this, she does not like other cats and would do best in a home without them.If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application. Completing a questionnaire on any other website does not submit an application to our rescue, you must complete one on our website. 3. Snickers
Adult · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed · 47 mi from Fort Wayne

Meet Snickers — you might also see her listed as Sarabi, the name we knew her by before her adoption. She's a hefty, 6-year-old spayed girl with a lot of presence. We had her since she was a kitten until her adoption last year, and now she's back with us, currently staying in a loving foster home while she waits for her next family (weighed in around 15 pounds at her last adoption).Snickers isn't a lap cat, but she likes to be near her people — she'd rather curl up beside you or share the room than climb into your lap. Her foster mom says she'll stretch out right next to her on the couch, or claim the foot rest the second it's up.She's got a playful side too, especially when there's a bug to hunt down around the house, and she's settled in well with the puppy in her foster home — these days the two of them chase each other around.
Read more about Snickers
She was also comfortable being around dogs during her time at the rescue.Other cats are a bit more of a mixed bag for her. She got along fine with most of the cats here at the rescue, though she wasn't especially friendly with all of them, and there were a few she just didn't care for. Her previous owner tried introducing another cat, and Snickers wasn't open to it — though that introduction didn't get much of a chance before it was called off. With some patience and a cat willing to give her space, she may still do okay in a multi-cat home. She's easy to please on the small stuff. Any litter works for her, though her foster mom has found she seems to prefer clumping sand since it's gentler on her paws. She's currently eating 4Health grain-free, and she's a nibbler who grazes through her food rather than eating it all in one go.If you're looking for a substantial, steady girl who wants company without needing constant attention, Snickers would love to meet you. Her adoption fee is $75.If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application. 4. Pigeon
Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed · 29 mi from Fort Wayne

Hello, I'm Pigeon, and I am 1.5 years old! I am a lovey dovey girl who likes to be swooned over! I came into the shelter as a stray but my previous owner officially surrendered me because I kept escaping the house. I lived in the home with a dog and kittens, but when the kittens grew up, I wasn't very happy living with them anymore. Therefore, I would do best as the only kitty in my new household!Give the shelter a call at (574) 267-3008 or email them at info@awlwarsaw.com if you have any questions about me! If not, stop by the shelter at 1048 S 325 E in Pierceton, IN 46562 to look at me! No appointments necessary!

5. Pimento
Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed · 47 mi from Fort Wayne

Pimento may be named after a mild pepper, but there’s nothing mild about her. She’s a tiny girl with plenty of sass, and she’ll tell you every opinion she has. She acts like she’s twice her size and likes to hang out with the big cats, since she’s pretty sure she’s one of them. She’s a big foodie. Her foster mom says she turns into Gurgi from The Black Cauldron when you have something she wants, and she looks a bit like him too. She’ll remind you when it’s mealtime, and if you’re slow to serve, she’ll help herself to whatever is on your plate. In her mind, your snacks were always hers.Pimento is a little talker and a real cuddle bug.

She follows her foster mom from room to room and can’t get enough attention from her humans. When she’s done, she gets up and walks off, no hard feelings. She’ll be back. She gets along with her foster cat friends and enjoys playing with them, as long as it’s on her schedule. She’ll speak up when something isn’t to her liking. She’s fine with dogs as long as they give her some personal space. The only time she grumbles at her foster home’s dog is when it half lies down on top of her, and nobody can really blame her for that. Her history is unknown. What we do know is that she’s spicy and sweet in equal measure. She’ll keep you entertained and on schedule, and she’ll happily soak up all the attention you can give her, until she decides she’s done.Just a quick note—she's currently in foster care, not at the shelter, so she won't be available for walk-in visits. 6. Mouse
Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed · 47 mi from Fort Wayne

Meet Mouse!Mouse is almost 6 months old and has had a rough start. She was found as a scared, very sick feral kitten at the Portland Forge, and some kind employees brought her to us. She went to foster care for a while. Now she's spayed and ready for her forever home. The virus she caught before she got to us did a real number on her eyes. She is visually impaired from it, but she does have some limited vision. Her inner eyelids will stay over her eyes for life, which gives her a look that is entirely her own. Indoor cats live very well with limited vision, though, and Mouse has already figured out how to find the most comfortable spot in any room.Because of her feral beginnings, she's still a little scared and skittish at times.
Read more about Mouse
Once she trusts you, she loves pets. She also sleeps in the most ridiculous ways: leg stuck straight out, flat on her back in the hammock, wedged into a corner like she's trying to hide from the furniture. Mouse would do best in an indoor home with older children. She hasn't been around dogs. She has a best friend named Dove, a gray and white medium hair who came from the same place just as sick. Dove recently lost an eye to a similar virus. Dove is adorable and would love to go along with Mouse, and she’s a bit less skittish too. If you want to adopt them together, it's $125 for both. Mouse on her own is $75.Applications are at www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application. Kitten · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed · 47 mi from Fort Wayne

Highway – the One‑Eyed FirecrackerHighway earned her name the hard way. She was spotted scrunched up in the middle of Highway 1 as cars flew past within a foot of her tiny body. She was the lone survivor, and she fought for that title with everything she had.Today, Highway is a feisty little thing with a whole lot of attitude packed into her small frame. Bringing a cat home to your dog
Tell the rescue about your dog: their size, age and energy. A cat who has lived with a calm dog may still be nervous around a bouncy puppy.
Introduce them slowly. Keep the cat in a room of their own for the first few days, swap bedding so they get used to each other's scent, and then let them meet with the dog on a leash.
Make sure the cat can always get somewhere the dog can't reach, and keep the litter box and food bowls out of the dog's way.
