5. Pie

Kitten · Female · Domestic Long Hair / Mixed · 47 mi from Fort Wayne

Meet Pie! She’s a beautiful half grown longhaired kitten with a thick black and white coat, and she’s every bit as sweet as her name.Pie was found in the woods by a deer hunter, nowhere near any houses. When he stepped out of his truck, she came running straight to him and climbed right up to his neck. She was starving and filthy. At intake she was at least 5 months old but weighed only 2 lbs 12 oz, when she should be around 5 lbs or more. Her fluffy coat hides it, but when you pet her, all you feel is bones. Our vet found that she broke her back foot at some point when she was younger. It has mostly healed, so there isn’t much to be done, and she will probably always have a limp.

Read more about Pie

Otherwise he said she looks OK and just needs to be fed slowly to regain her weight. Her ears are perfectly clean and she had no fleas. Her white fur was very dirty from trying to survive on her own, but we suspect she lived indoors at one time. She is not microchipped, and no one came forward looking for her.Pie is VERY people oriented and friendly. She was brave enough to ask for help, and now she just wants to be near her people. She’s sure to be a lap cat, and she deserves a home where she can finally relax, fill out, and be loved. Her limp doesn’t seem to slow her down.If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application. 6. Cider

Kitten · Male · Domestic Long Hair / Mixed · 47 mi from Fort Wayne

Meet Cider, a kitten with a purr that's way louder than it has any right to be.Cider was found as a sick, tiny stray. A rough case of ringworm cost him his long hair, which is why he looks like a shorthair in his pictures. He's fully cleared now, and the hair is slowly growing back. Whether he ends up fully fluffy again, only time will tell, but he's working on it.He's playful and always looking for attention. He's not a big cuddle bug yet, since he couldn't be held much while he was dealing with the ringworm. Our guess is that will change, because he keeps asking for the attention. If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application.

7. Sage

Kitten · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed · 29 mi from Fort Wayne

Hi! My name is Sage and I am almost 3 months old. I am a shy, little kitten that will need a patient, loving home to help me grow out of my shell. I was raised in a foster home with my mom and siblings since I was about three weeks old, but I am still a pretty quiet kitten. Growing up in a foster home helped me get used to living inside a home, and I didn't have to sit in a shelter kennel while I was growing up. I do well with other cats and kittens, and I would do good in a home with children that can respect me! Being held is a little scary at first but then I can get comfortable and will purr.

18. Noah

Kitten · Male · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed · 47 mi from Fort Wayne

Noah earned his name the day he was found at the edge of a ditch after a flood, nearly drowned and severely hypothermic. Getting him warm again was slow, and we almost lost him a couple of times. He crashed and went back to the vet more than once, but he finally turned the corner and is now a normal, healthy kitten. He seems to have decided he's owed some comfort. Noah is laid back, sweet, and happiest when he's being held close. He's always seeking attention, he's litter box trained, and he melts into belly rubs. He's been gentle and relaxed the whole way through, which is impressive for a kitten who had every reason not to be.He's currently living with Cider and they get along great, so he's a good fit for a home with other cats.

He's also been around kids and did fine. As far as we know he hasn't met any dogs. He'd do well in a quiet home with someone who has a lap and doesn't mind being followed around. If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application. He loves pets — truly loves them — and will march right over to demand attention with all the confidence he didn’t have at first. Adopting a kitten in Fort Wayne

Kittens usually go to their new homes from about eight weeks old, once they're eating on their own and have had their first vaccinations. Most rescues spay or neuter them before adoption, or include it in the fee.

Think about adopting two. Kittens raised together play with each other instead of your ankles and furniture, and many rescues charge less for a pair.

Kittens need more of your time than grown cats: several small meals a day, plenty of play, and a home with cords and small objects tidied away.
