1. Hope

Adult · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 19 mi from Port Deposit

HOPE came into the rescue with her brother, RAY, from a horrific situation. Their owner, who was a hoarder, had passed away weeks before they were found. Although raised inside a house, they were both very shy. Used to living with other cats and have done well in our cat room. Hope has come around more quickly than Ray and is ready for adoption. She is shy but sweet and will make a nice lap cat. They are coexisting with cat friendly dogs and she should do okay with a well-mannered pup. Hope is two years old and has been spayed, vaccinated and tested negative for FIV/Leukemia. Adoption $100. Please fill out an application at www.companimals.org if you were the home that Hope is looking for!

2. Cody

Adult · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 19 mi from Port Deposit

CODY came to us after his senior owner could no longer care for him. He is a big, gorgeous cat with striking tabby markings but he is overwhelmed in our cat room. Cody has struck out at our volunteers because he is overwhelmed. We would love for him to find a quiet home where he can decompress.
Cody came to us fully vetted and it is obvious that he was well cared for in his former home. We would love for him to find a quiet home of his own where he can decompress and be loved again. Please fill out an application at www.companimals.org if you can be his person. Adoption $100.

4. Tota & Amba

Adult (3 years 3 months) · Male · Maine Coon (long coat) · 21 mi from Port Deposit

This is a courtesty posting, we are networking Tota and Amba so they can find a great home and avoid entering a shelter.
Tota & Amba
Maine Coon mix Brothers Seeking a Home Together
Tota and Amba are bonded male longhair cats born in June 2023. They are being rehomed together due to the resident cat not liking them. This decision is unrelated to their behavior, as both cats are friendly, affectionate, and well-adjusted companions.
Having been together their entire lives, Tota and Amba share a strong bond and should remain together in their new home. They are social cats who enjoy being around people and are comfortable in both quiet and active household environments.
Personality
Tota is the more curious and playful of the pair. He enjoys exploring, interactive play, and being involved in whatever his humans are doing. He is affectionate and enjoys being held.
Amba is laid-back, affectionate, and eager for cuddles. He enjoys relaxing near his family, receiving attention, and spending quality time with his people.
Both cats are:

Read more about Tota & Amba

Friendly with people and other cats
Litterbox trained with consistent bathroom habits
Gentle and affectionate
Intelligent and highly treat-motivated
Fans of window watching, sunbathing, and interactive play

Their favorite toys include laser pointers, small fuzzy balls, and toys with tails.
Nutrition
Tota and Amba are currently fed approximately 4 oz daily of wet food, including:

Royal Canin Indoor Adult
Instinct Adult
Purina Pro Plan Chicken & Rice
Purina Pro Plan Turkey & Rice
Purina Pro Plan White Meat Chicken & Vegetables

Water is mixed into their wet food, as both cats tend to prefer moisture from their meals. They prefer still water but will also drink from a fountain.
They are free-fed Royal Canin Appetite Control dry food. Tota self-regulates his intake well, while Amba benefits from occasional monitoring around food.
Litterbox Habits
Both cats have excellent litterbox habits and are comfortable using either pellet or traditional litter.
They have successfully used:

Purina Tidy Cats
Arm & Hammer Dust Free Litter

Grooming
As longhaired cats, both benefit from routine brushing.

Tota's coat mats easily, particularly around his underarms and hind legs, and requires frequent brushing and occasional trimming for comfort.
Amba's coat is lower maintenance and typically remains tangle-free with regular brushing.

Their nails are trimmed routinely, and they enjoy having scratching posts available for normal scratching and grooming behaviors.
Lifestyle
Tota and Amba are strictly indoor cats but have experience with supervised outdoor time while wearing a leash and harness. They enjoy spending time outdoors safely, though they are equally content watching birds, people, and wildlife from a sunny window.
Neither cat displays aggressive behavior and they do not bite, scratch, or hiss except in situations where they may be frightened or distressed.
Special Note About Amba
Amba has a harmless self-soothing behavior in which he mimics kitten nursing. He seeks out a trusted person, settles into a comfortable spot nearby, and relaxes while engaging in this behavior. It is simply a comforting habit and part of his unique personality.
Ideal Home
Tota and Amba are looking for a family that can provide companionship, enrichment, and continued opportunities to stay together. They are affectionate, social cats who enjoy being part of everyday life and will make wonderful companions for the right home.
Bonded pair - must be adopted together.

6. Jessie & Lane

Kitten (7 months) · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 21 mi from Port Deposit

Meet Jessie & Lane!
Jessie and Lane may not be sisters by birth, but somewhere along the way, these two little girls decided they were meant to be best friends. They are often found chasing each other around, tumbling through their favorite toys, or curled up together for a cozy kitten nap. Their friendship has blossomed into a special bond, and they truly enjoy having each other by their side.
Lane is the sweetest little cuddlebug you could ever meet. She absolutely loves affection and will happily be held like a baby, content to relax in your arms while soaking up all the love. She also has a playful side and loves chasing toys, playing tag with Rory, and tumbling through crinkle tubes. Give her a lap and she may happily lie upside down for belly rubs before settling in for a nap. Lane is gentle, affectionate, and wonderfully easygoing, and she gets along beautifully with cats, dogs, and children.

He has a wonderfully easygoing nature and is a pleasure to handle.
This boy is also a fearless adventurer with plenty of goofy charm. He loves to investigate, play, and get into whatever is happening. One of his favorite pastimes is watching Cat TV, where he takes his job of keeping an eye on the neighborhood very seriously.
When the excitement winds down, Albus becomes an affectionate cuddle companion.

Hi, I’m Meesha! I’m a petite young cat who became a mama when I was still a kitten myself. I’ve been through a lot, but I’m still a playful, loving girl.
I love looking out windows, playing with my mouse and ball tower, and enjoying a good meal. .
Right now, I’m looking for a safe, loving forever home where I can finally be a young cat again—play, relax, be spoiled, and feel safe indoors.
I’m not a big fan of boy cats right now, so I may do best as your one-and-only kitty or with slow introductions.
I’ve had my babies, and now it’s my turn to be loved. Will you be my forever family? ?

Adult · Female · Tabby (short coat) · 24 mi from Port Deposit

Please open your arms and heart to Millie. She was very scared and shutting down in our adoption center, so one of our adoption center volunteers took her home for a break. Millie is welcoming her new environment! In her foster home, she comes to life after dark. That is when she does her eating, visits to the litter box and tossing her toys around.
During the day, she is a demure little thing with the loudest purr and searching out hands to butt with her head. Once she is comfortable with you, she will curl up and snuggle by your side, glancing over every once in a while to make sure you are still there and lauding your attention on her.

Once you’re ready to adopt, head over to our Adoption Application to fill out and submit the form. Once our Adoption Team has reviewed and approved your application, we will give you a call to schedule an appointment with the pet! When you arrive at ACSKC, you will be greeted by our Adoption Coordinator and taken to meet the pet, either in our Meet and Greet Room or one of the play yards. If you already have pets in the home, you may be asked to bring them with you for a meet and greet to ensure they will get along in the home (this typically only applies to dogs). If you and our Adoption Coordinator feel like it is a good match, we will then finalize the paperwork and send you home with a bag of goodies, including our “Welcoming Your New Pet Home Guide,” toys, treats and a sample bag of their pet food. If it is not a good match, you are welcome to meet the other available pets in the shelter. Your approved application will be kept on file for 90 days, so you’re encouraged to take your time before making a decision!

How to adopt from Animal Coalition of Delaware County, Inc.

We believe in an adoption approach that considers important details for finding the right fit, such as a person's home, interests and lifestyle. We then match those with an animal's social, exercise and training needs. Unlike “pass/fail” application programs, we strive to match people and animals through education and discovery. We accomplish this through conversation to create an effective, pleasant adoption experience — and most important — to make lasting matches. Each situation, adopter and animal requires a different approach. And while we reserve the right to refuse an adoption, we always make every effort to work with you to address concerns or find the most appropriate companion animal. Before falling in love with one of our animals, please make sure that you are: At least 21 years of age In possession of a valid photo ID Allowed to have a cat or dog where you live (proof of home ownership or copy of lease with pet clause allowing pets is required) Able and willing to spend the time and money necessary to provide the training, medical treatment and proper care for the animal Able to provide veterinary references for current and past veterinarians PLEASE ALLOW 4-5 BUSINESS DAYS FOR YOUR APPLICATION TO BE THOROUGHLY PROCESSED BY ONE OF OUR ADOPTION COUNSELORS If the animals are still listed on our website they are still available. If an animal has an adoption pending it will be listed as Pending. Once adopted, the animal will no longer be active but will appear under

Adopting a cat in Port Deposit

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
