What the Shelter Says About Me:Jaxie is a beautiful black long-haired beauty. She does have some patches of white - her little white locket. She is a sweet girl who loves to be brushed (that glorious fur) and looks forward to head scratches and snuggles from her foster. One of her favorite ways to show that she likes and trusts you is to allow you to hold her on her back, nestled in your arms. She does like to play with toys but prefers just sitting and gazing at the world. Jaxie gave birth to her 3 beautiful kittens (March 2026) while in Animal Control. The kittens thrived under her care and they have all been adopted. Jaxie had to stay back a while because she had to have some vet care after her spay...but she has been cleared by the vet now. Despite all of her vet visits, Jaxie has retained her darling ways. Jaxie is ready for her new life as a family member in a home!

4. Winsley

WINSLEY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!
Read more about Winsley
Name: Winsley Best Guess for Breed: Domestic Medium Hair
Age: 15 weeks 11/14 - Actual DOB 7/27/26
SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 2.77 lb 10/19
Coloring: White with one blue & one green/yellow eye, deaf Type of Hair: Medium
Special Consideration: Winsley is deaf and will need time and patience to settle into a new home
Gets Along With: Because of his young age, Winsley will likely get along with other cats, dogs and kids with an acclimation period. We’re happy to help with tips and tricks!
Litter: Winnie, Winsley, Winton
Currently Living at: Shelter...coming to the DC area soon
What the Shelter Says About Me:Winsley wins with his longer fur and the most beautiful two colored eyes! As we’re learning, Winsley is deaf, which is not uncommon in white cats with one blue and one green/yellow (heterochromia) eyes. But don’t let that fool you—this sweet boy doesn’t let anything slow him down! He loves playing with his siblings and happily comes to the front of the condo to greet our volunteers and soak up all the love and attention. Winsley is sweet, friendly, and full of kitten charm. He’ll need a special family willing to help him thrive by teaching him hand signals, providing safe boundaries, and understanding his unique needs & special abilities. His beautiful jewel colored eyes and pink nose along with his other senses will let him experience the world in the way he needs. A playful companion kitten or a patient, supportive adult cat would be a wonderful addition to Winsley’s new family, giving him a friend to learn and grow alongside. (But be aware that he will not hear the cat's hiss so hopefully visual social cues will help them respect each other.) Winsley may experience the world a little differently, but he has so much love to give and has been thriving! He’s ready to find a family who will see how special he truly is and give him the safe, loving forever home he deserves. Could you be Wiinsley's family and ears?

14. Akca
2 Years · Female · British Shorthair

Akca is a beautiful white British shorthair who was rescued from a government shelter in Turkey. She had not been well cared for and she was pregnant. Luckily for her some very kind people rescued her. She had her babies, battled FIP (and won!), and dealt with some kitty colds. Her rescuers finally got her to the US and King Street Cats. She is now ready to find her forever home she is very sweet and docile. She would like to be your one and only. She would not do well with young children or a noisy house. After all she has been through she deserves to be the queen of the castle, a calm, quiet castle!

Adopting a cat in Talbot County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
