1. Winston
Adult · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 7 mi from Gardner

Meet Your New Best Friend!
Looking for a low-maintenance companion who appreciates the finer things in life—like a long nap on the couch? That's me! I am definitely not a high-energy feline. Since I came from the streets, l am much more of a relaxed couch potato, and I'm completely proud of it. I love a quiet routine, gazing out the window at the world, or settling in for some Cat TV to watch and listen to the wildlife.
When it comes to affection, I prefer petting on my own terms. Too much petting can overstimulate me, so I like to be the one to dictate when it's time for physical love. But just so you know, my two absolute favorite spots to be pet and scratched are on top of my head and right under my chin!
I'm independent but very communicative. When it's mealtime or I'm in the mood for a quick game, I'll come find you. If you happen to be distracted when I really need your attention, l might give you a gentle, polite nibble on your hand or arm. But don't worry—| always follow it up with immediate licks to remind you that I mean no harm! It's just my quirky way of sending a text message. When we do play, my absolute favorites are chasing things on a string and hiding in a cat tunnel to swat at dangling toys.
Bedtime is when I spend the most time with you and when I start to PURR. I have a routine every night: first, I'll get to work happily making biscuits on the blankets. Then, I absolutely love having my head and under my chin scratched while we wind down. Once I've had my fill, I'll contentedly plop myself down at the foot of the bed to sleep through the night with you.
If you're looking for a sweet, predictable, and independent companion to share your peaceful home, I'm ready to meet you!

2. Peanut
Senior · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Calico (short coat) · 7 mi from Gardner

I’m a sweet 15-year-old girl who recently lost my person, and my world has changed a lot. I’m shy right now and still missing the person I loved, so I could really use some extra love, patience, and understanding.
I’d be happiest in a quiet home where I can feel safe and settle in at my own pace. I’m fine with other cats, and beneath my shyness is a gentle girl who just wants to feel loved again.
I’ve lost my person, but I’m hoping I haven’t lost my chance at a loving home.

3. Chester
Adult · Male · Domestic Short Hair / Tabby (short coat) · 7 mi from Gardner

Hi, I’m Chester, and I’ll be honest—I’m a bit of a complicated guy At 4 years old
For the most part, I’m a friendly, handsome boy who enjoys attention and spending time with my people. But I also have some quirks that make me special. Sometimes, if I’m caught off guard or become overstimulated, I can react by biting or attacking. Because of this, I’m looking for someone who understands cats like me and is willing to learn my signals and respect my boundaries.
I’ve been in a few homes already, and what I really need is a patient, cat-savvy person who will accept me for who I am and give me the stability I’ve been missing.
I’m looking for an adult-only home where I can be your one and only pet—no kids, no cats, and no dogs, please. In the right home with someone who understands that not every cat fits into a perfect little box, I know I have the potential to be a wonderful companion.
Could you be the person willing to give a misunderstood guy like me the chance I deserve?

5. Ginger
Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 7 mi from Gardner

I’m about 4–5 months old and came to the shelter as a semi-feral kitten with my sisters, Baby, Sassy, and Posh. With lots of patience and love from our volunteers, I’m slowly learning that people can be pretty wonderful!
I’ve made great progress and will even purr while cuddled in your arms. I still have some trust issues, though, so I’ll need a patient adopter who understands that building a bond with me will take time.
I’d love to go home with one of my sisters, or to a home with a friendly feline companion who can help me feel safe and confident.
Give me the time and patience I need, and I’ll keep showing you just how sweet I can be.

I came to the shelter in July as a semi-feral kitten with my sisters, Ginger, Baby, and Sassy. Thanks to the patience and love of our volunteers, I’ve been learning that people aren’t so scary after all!
I can be shy at first, but once I start feeling comfortable, I enjoy playing and getting pets. I’ve come a long way since I first arrived and just need someone willing to continue helping me build my confidence.

9. Jasper
Young · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 7 mi from Gardner

Hi, I’m Jasper, and I’m 15 months old. Shelter life just isn’t my thing. All the unfamiliar sights, sounds, and smells make me nervous, so right now I may hiss or growl when I’m feeling unsure.
But my previous owner says there’s another side of me waiting to shine. ❤️ In a home, I was friendly, playful, and liked hanging out with my people. I may even be a shoulder-riding sidekick once I’m comfortable!
I’m fine with other cats and have no experience with dogs or children. I’m looking for someone who will give me a little patience and time to settle in so I can show you the Jasper I was at home.

10. Boo
Senior · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 7 mi from Gardner

I’m a 12-year-old lady who has spent my whole life with the same person. Sadly, my owner passed away, and suddenly everything I’ve ever known has changed.
As you can imagine, this new chapter is a little scary for me. I’m shy when I first meet people and may find a cozy hiding spot when I’m feeling unsure. I can be afraid of new faces, but once I’ve had time to learn that you’re safe, I start letting my sweet side show. ❤️
One of my favorite things is being brushed—it’s a wonderful way to help me relax and build trust with you.
I’ve never lived with other animals, so we don’t really know how I would feel about sharing my home. What I do know is that I’d love a quiet, patient home where I can settle in at my own pace without being rushed.
I’ve lost the only home and person I’ve ever known. Now I’m hoping someone special will give this senior girl the chance to feel safe and loved again.
Could you be my second chance?

11. Oreo
Adult · Female · Domestic Short Hair (medium coat) · 7 mi from Gardner

I’m a 3-year-old girl with a sweet, quiet personality and a serious appreciation for the peaceful side of life. I can be very shy, especially when things around me feel busy or overwhelming, so I’m hoping to find someone who understands that I may need a little time to feel safe.
I was surrendered because living with children was stressful for me. I’ve learned that what I really need is a calm, quiet home without kids, where I can relax, settle into a routine, and just be myself.
I’m definitely not the cat who needs to be in the middle of all the action. I’m quiet, laid-back, and maybe even a little lazy—and I’m perfectly happy that way! Give me a cozy spot, a peaceful environment, and the freedom to come out of my shell at my own pace.
The good news? I’m okay with other cats, and I can also live with a calm, cat-friendly dog. I just need my animal friends to appreciate a quieter lifestyle too.
If you have a peaceful home, a patient heart, and room for a shy little tuxedo girl who just wants to feel safe, I might be the Oreo you’ve been missing.

12. Sarah
Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 7 mi from Gardner

I’m Sarah, a 3-year-old girl who’s been waiting for my forever family since I arrived at the shelter almost 2 years ago. It’s hard not to wonder when it will finally be my turn.
I’m not the kind of cat who will win everyone over the moment they meet me, and that’s okay. I need someone who understands that I deserve to be loved for who I am—not for who they hope I’ll become.
I thrive with people who have experience with shy, unsocialized, or more challenging cats. I need patience, understanding, and the freedom to move at my own pace. Trust is something I build slowly, but when you let me be myself, you’ll know every little step forward is a victory we’ve earned together.
I do enjoy the company of other cats, so a feline friend could be a wonderful fit for me. Dogs and children, though, aren’t part of my happily-ever-after. A calm, quiet home is where I’ll have the best chance to blossom.
My adoption fee is fully sponsored because everyone here believes I deserve a chance. What I need now is someone who sees past my cautious exterior and believes that every cat—even one who’s been overlooked for almost two years—is worthy of love, patience, and a forever home.
Maybe the reason I’ve waited this long is because I’ve been waiting for you.
If you are interested in adopting, applications can be found on our website www.ahimsahaven.org.

Hi! We’re Bella & Cocoa, a mother-daughter duo under 2 years old.
We’re friendly, playful and talkative, but can be shy in new places. We love our Churu treats and enjoy attention on our own terms. 14. Appa & Little
Adult · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 7 mi from Gardner

We’re Appa and Little, and we’ve been together through life’s changes. When our previous owner could no longer care for us, we found ourselves looking for a new beginning. We’ve always had each other, and we’re hoping our next chapter is one we get to share too. That’s why we’re looking for a home where we can stay together forever.
I’m Appa, the big guy—the extra-large black cat with an even bigger heart. I’m 8 years old, quiet, playful, and a little shy when we first meet. New situations can make me feel timid, so I need someone who understands that trust takes time. Once I feel safe, I really enjoy being brushed—it’s one of my favorite ways to relax. I’m not a fan of being picked up, but I’m happy to show my affection in my own quiet way.
And I’m Little, a 5-year-old gray tabby with a gentle soul. I can be shy at first too, but once I know you’re kind, I’m incredibly loving. I adore being petted and will happily soak up all the gentle attention you’re willing to give.
We’re both sweet, quiet boys who would love a peaceful home where we can blossom at our own pace. We’re good with other cats and respectful older children, but dogs aren’t really our thing.
If you’re looking for not one, but two loyal best friends, we promise we’re worth the patience. All we need is a little time, a lot of love, and the chance to stay together—just as we’ve always been.

Hi, I’m Honeybell!
I’m still learning that the world isn’t such a scary place. When we first meet, I’ll probably be a little shy and keep my distance. I just need a little time, patience, and someone who understands that trust isn’t built overnight.
Want to know the quickest way to my heart? Toys and Churu treats! Bring those out, and you’ll start to see my curious, playful side peek through. Every small victory helps me grow a little more confident.
My dream home is calm and quiet, with no children, where I can settle in at my own pace. I’m looking for a patient person who will celebrate the little milestones with me and help me blossom into the loving cat I’m meant to be.

We may not be the first cats to run up and greet you—and that’s okay. We’re a pair of 5-year-old bonded siblings who like to take our time getting to know new people. The world can feel a little overwhelming at first, so you’ll usually find us tucked away together, giving each other confidence.

I’m Mewthree! I’m the more timid one, and the world can be a little scary for me. But I do enjoy gentle head scratches! And I’m Sauerkraut! I know my name sounds sweet, but trust me—I’m even sweeter in person.
I’m a handsome 1-year-old guy who was sadly left behind, but I haven’t let that dim my loving spirit. I’m an outgoing, friendly cat who enjoys being around people and making new friends. Whether you’re relaxing on the couch or moving around the house, I’m happy to be part of the action.
I’m also a pretty independent fellow. I enjoy attention and affection, but I’m confident enough to entertain myself too. One of my favorite ways to show love is with gentle little love bites—they’re my special way of saying, “I like you!”

Hi, I’m Prince!
I’m a handsome 4-year-old guy with bright eyes, a playful spirit, and a serious love for catnip. If there’s a catnip toy nearby, chances are I’ll be the first one to claim it!
I’m friendly, outgoing, and enjoy meeting new people. I like attention, playtime, and being involved in whatever is going on around me. Most people who meet me are surprised by what a social and fun cat I am.

I ended up at the shelter after I unexpectedly attacked my owner while they were sleeping. Because of this, I’m looking for a cat-savvy adopter who understands that some cats come with quirks and are willing to take the time to get to know me and help me succeed.
I do well with dogs, but I’m not a match for a home with small children. What I need most is an experienced owner who will appreciate my good qualities, respect my boundaries, and love me for who I am.

19. Bill
Young · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 7 mi from Gardner

Bill is an all black, short haired, 2 year old male cat who was living with a group of feral cats. He was trapped and brought to be neutered and was going to be returned to his home as he was also thought to be feral. Turns out he’s not! It only took a day to suspect he wasn’t like the others but it took a fair amount of time for him to trust the humans again. He now purrs like a champ when you scratch starting from his head and go all of the way down his back to his tail. He greets you with his tiny hoarse meow when it’s mealtime and catches the feather wand and just holds it like it’s a real bird.

He also loves the fuzzy worm on a stick toy. He seems to be quite content to have left the outdoor life behind and has become a couch potato. He is good with other cats and tolerant of older respectful children but since the foster has no dogs we aren’t sure how he would do with them.

Hi, I’m Roni.
I’m a 5-year-old tuxedo lady with big curious eyes and a gentle heart. Life changed unexpectedly when my previous owner could no longer care for me, but I’m hoping my next chapter is just around the corner.
I can be a little shy when we first meet—new places and new people can be a lot for a girl to take in. But if you give me a little patience, I’ll show you my sweet side. Once I feel comfortable, I absolutely welcome love, pets, and all the gentle attention you have to offer.
I get along well with other cats and would be happy to share my home with a feline friend. Dogs aren’t really my thing, and I’d do best in a home with older children who understand that sometimes I need a little time to settle in.

Adopting a cat in Gardner
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
