2. Scuttle
Young (2 years) · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 27 mi from Haverhill

Scuttle is a two year old neutered male cat, looking for his home. Here’s what his foster volunteer says about him:
How would you describe the cat's general personality?
Scuttle is an affectionate, playful, and energetic little guy! He loves following his human around and will sometimes lie right on your feet, making it impossible to walk. He’s also quite vocal and loves to meow at you. He’s curious about everything and wants to play with just about anything he comes across.
Does the cat enjoy being pet? If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched?
Read more about Scuttle
Scuttle absolutely loves being petted, especially on the back of his head and under his chin. He may try to grab your hand with his paws when you touch his belly, so he seems to prefer head and chin pets over belly rubs!
Does the cat come on your lap?
Yes! Scuttle loves lying on your lap. When relaxing on the couch, he also likes to snuggle up right against your body. He’s a very affectionate and cuddly companion.
Does the cat like to be held?
Scuttle doesn’t seem very used to being held yet. He stays calm when picked up, but usually jumps down after a second or two.
Does the cat sleep in your bed?
Not sure yet! We haven’t reached the stage of sharing a bed, so I don’t know if he’ll sleep with me at night.
Does the cat seek your attention?
Yes! Scuttle is very vocal and will keep meowing until I make eye contact with him or respond to him. He definitely likes to communicate with his humans!
Does the cat like to play?
Scuttle absolutely loves to play, and solo toys are his specialty! He plays with them very well and loves to run around. He’s still learning how to play with wand toys and often tries to take the wand away so he can play with it by himself. He’s also still figuring out puzzle toys and sometimes has trouble finding the hidden treats.
What are the cat's favorite games and toys?
Scuttle’s favorite toy is his catnip pillow! He also likes to hide his favorite toys and take them out again whenever he feels like playing.
How vocal is the cat? What kinds of sounds does the cat make?
Scuttle is quite vocal! When he’s awake and not resting, he’ll often meow here and there, especially when people are walking around. He also loves meowing in the kitchen, possibly because he associates it with mealtime.
Scuttle makes all kinds of sounds! He meows, purrs, and makes little chirping or trilling sounds.
Does the cat scratch a scratcher? If no, please explain.
Scuttle mostly uses his scratching posts and scratchers. He tried scratching a cabinet door once, but stopped when he realized he didn’t like the texture. So far, he seems to prefer his designated scratching spots!
Does the cat always use the litter box? If no, please explain.
Scuttle uses his litter box very well now and does a great job covering his waste. When he first arrived at his foster home, he pooped on a bath mat and urinated on the sofa. This may have been related to the stress of adjusting to a new environment. Since settling in and getting more comfortable, he has been using his litter box well.
What food and frequency is the cat currently eating?
Scuttle eats four meals of wet food a day, about half a can per meal. His wet food includes Fussie Cat chicken and turkey shreds, RAWZ chicken and turkey shreds, and Tiki Cat chicken mousse. He also has a separate bowl of RAWZ chicken recipe dry food, with about 1–2 tablespoons available to help make sure he gets enough to eat.
Is the cat picky about food?
Scuttle is not picky at all! He happily eats all the food offered to him and always finishes his meals.
What is the cat's favorite treat?
I’ve tried Greenies, Temptations Party Mix, and Churu treats, and Scuttle likes all of them!
What medication is the cat on, and how is it administered?
No.
Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances?
When Scuttle gets overly excited du

Adult · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 50 mi from Haverhill

Meet Your New Best Friend!
Looking for a low-maintenance companion who appreciates the finer things in life—like a long nap on the couch? That's me! I am definitely not a high-energy feline. Since I came from the streets, l am much more of a relaxed couch potato, and I'm completely proud of it. I love a quiet routine, gazing out the window at the world, or settling in for some Cat TV to watch and listen to the wildlife.
When it comes to affection, I prefer petting on my own terms. Too much petting can overstimulate me, so I like to be the one to dictate when it's time for physical love. But just so you know, my two absolute favorite spots to be pet and scratched are on top of my head and right under my chin!
I'm independent but very communicative. When it's mealtime or I'm in the mood for a quick game, I'll come find you. If you happen to be distracted when I really need your attention, l might give you a gentle, polite nibble on your hand or arm. But don't worry—| always follow it up with immediate licks to remind you that I mean no harm! It's just my quirky way of sending a text message. When we do play, my absolute favorites are chasing things on a string and hiding in a cat tunnel to swat at dangling toys.
Bedtime is when I spend the most time with you and when I start to PURR. I have a routine every night: first, I'll get to work happily making biscuits on the blankets. Then, I absolutely love having my head and under my chin scratched while we wind down. Once I've had my fill, I'll contentedly plop myself down at the foot of the bed to sleep through the night with you.
If you're looking for a sweet, predictable, and independent companion to share your peaceful home, I'm ready to meet you!

4. Tilly
Adult (2 years 7 months) · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 13 mi from Haverhill

Meet Tilly, a sweetheart who is ready to find a lap—and a family—to call her own! This affectionate girl loves being petted, climbs into laps, and makes it clear that snuggle time is high on her wish list. She’s also discovering the fun of toys, showing off her playful side between cuddle sessions.
Tilly would be happiest as your one and only pet, with all that love to herself. She can coexist with other cats, though she prefers her own space. When she met a dog, she chose to keep her distance. A home with another respectful pet could be a possibility with thoughtful introductions. She has been fine with the children in her foster home.

5. Jeff
Adult (7 years 2 months) · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 34 mi from Haverhill

Jeff - Male DOB 8/6/2017 Domestic Short Hair - Orange Tabby Meet Jeff.
Jeff is an orange 9-year-old with a permanent resting sad face and the soul of a retired cool uncle. Don't let the sad face fool you — Jeff is happy, he just looks like he's contemplating taxes.
Jeff is A WHOLE VIBE. He has his people, and when he sees them? He greets you. Like, actually comes over to say hi. That's not common for a cat with his level of senior cool.
His ideal day: lounging in his casual, laid-back corner, watching the world go by, getting head scratches on _his_ schedule. He's not needy, he's not chaotic. He's just... Jeff.

Jeff has main-character energy and knows it. He's an alpha guy who has earned the right to not share his space, his couch, or his humans. He would do best as your one-and-only. No other cats, please — Jeff is enough cat for one house.
If you're looking for a chill, loyal, orange loaf who will greet you at the door and then immediately go back to being effortlessly cool, Jeff is your guy.

6. Chester
Adult · Male · Domestic Short Hair / Tabby (short coat) · 50 mi from Haverhill

Hi, I’m Chester, and I’ll be honest—I’m a bit of a complicated guy At 4 years old
For the most part, I’m a friendly, handsome boy who enjoys attention and spending time with my people. But I also have some quirks that make me special. Sometimes, if I’m caught off guard or become overstimulated, I can react by biting or attacking. Because of this, I’m looking for someone who understands cats like me and is willing to learn my signals and respect my boundaries.
I’ve been in a few homes already, and what I really need is a patient, cat-savvy person who will accept me for who I am and give me the stability I’ve been missing.
I’m looking for an adult-only home where I can be your one and only pet—no kids, no cats, and no dogs, please. In the right home with someone who understands that not every cat fits into a perfect little box, I know I have the potential to be a wonderful companion.
Could you be the person willing to give a misunderstood guy like me the chance I deserve?
If you are interested in adopting, applications can be found on our website www.ahimsahaven.org.

Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 50 mi from Haverhill

I’m about 4–5 months old and came to the shelter as a semi-feral kitten with my sisters, Baby, Sassy, and Posh. With lots of patience and love from our volunteers, I’m slowly learning that people can be pretty wonderful!
I’ve made great progress and will even purr while cuddled in your arms. I still have some trust issues, though, so I’ll need a patient adopter who understands that building a bond with me will take time.
I’d love to go home with one of my sisters, or to a home with a friendly feline companion who can help me feel safe and confident.
Give me the time and patience I need, and I’ll keep showing you just how sweet I can be.

Young · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 50 mi from Haverhill

Hi, I’m Jasper, and I’m 15 months old. Shelter life just isn’t my thing. All the unfamiliar sights, sounds, and smells make me nervous, so right now I may hiss or growl when I’m feeling unsure.
But my previous owner says there’s another side of me waiting to shine. ❤️ In a home, I was friendly, playful, and liked hanging out with my people. I may even be a shoulder-riding sidekick once I’m comfortable!
I’m fine with other cats and have no experience with dogs or children. I’m looking for someone who will give me a little patience and time to settle in so I can show you the Jasper I was at home.

14. Lucy
Adult (5 years 2 months) · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 34 mi from Haverhill

Lucy - Female DOB 8/10/2021 Domestic Short Hair - Brown/White Tabby
Meet Lucy! This sweet girl found herself in a southern shelter after her owner had to move into a nursing home. Confused, scared, and facing an uncertain future, Lucy was very close to being euthanized before she was given a second chance.
Read more about Lucy
Lucy is a gentle, friendly girl, with big golden eyes, who can be a little shy at first. Once she feels comfortable, she enjoys getting pets and attention from her people and will reward you with her sweet, quiet companionship. After everything she's been through, Lucy would love a home where she can finally feel safe, settled, and truly loved.
Lucy would be happiest as your one-and-only pet. She does not enjoy the company of other cats and would prefer not to share her home with a dog. Older, respectful children who understand that cats sometimes need their own space may be a good fit for her.
A quieter home with a calm, predictable routine would be ideal for Lucy. She would love a cozy bed, a sunny window to watch the world outside, and a person who is willing to give her the time and patience she needs to settle in and feel secure. And we discovered that is you softly sing "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" to her, it relaxes her and she rolls on her side...
If you're looking for a sweet, kind-hearted companion who has been through a lot and is ready for a fresh start, Lucy may be the loving little girl you've been waiting for.

Oscar and Nellie, AKA the adorable duo! Does it get any cuter than a bonded pair of gray and white kitties? Oscar is the more outgoing of the two. He loves to be pet from head to tail. Wand toys? He says yes, please! He'll give you the sweetest little demanding meow when he wants more you-time. Nellie is the quieter half of this amazing pair. She is sweet and shy and opens up at her own pace. When she's not cuddling with Oscar, she loves to play with toys. While she doesn't like to be picked up, she does enjoy scratches behind her ear and getting pets. To our knowledge neither cat has had experience with dogs. They get along with other cats with the right introduction. 18. Oreo
Adult · Female · Domestic Short Hair (medium coat) · 50 mi from Haverhill

I’m a 3-year-old girl with a sweet, quiet personality and a serious appreciation for the peaceful side of life. I can be very shy, especially when things around me feel busy or overwhelming, so I’m hoping to find someone who understands that I may need a little time to feel safe.
I was surrendered because living with children was stressful for me. I’ve learned that what I really need is a calm, quiet home without kids, where I can relax, settle into a routine, and just be myself.
I’m definitely not the cat who needs to be in the middle of all the action. I’m quiet, laid-back, and maybe even a little lazy—and I’m perfectly happy that way! Give me a cozy spot, a peaceful environment, and the freedom to come out of my shell at my own pace.
The good news? I’m okay with other cats, and I can also live with a calm, cat-friendly dog. I just need my animal friends to appreciate a quieter lifestyle too.
If you have a peaceful home, a patient heart, and room for a shy little tuxedo girl who just wants to feel safe, I might be the Oreo you’ve been missing.

20. Sarah
Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 50 mi from Haverhill

I’m Sarah, a 3-year-old girl who’s been waiting for my forever family since I arrived at the shelter almost 2 years ago. It’s hard not to wonder when it will finally be my turn.
I’m not the kind of cat who will win everyone over the moment they meet me, and that’s okay. I need someone who understands that I deserve to be loved for who I am—not for who they hope I’ll become.
I thrive with people who have experience with shy, unsocialized, or more challenging cats. I need patience, understanding, and the freedom to move at my own pace. Trust is something I build slowly, but when you let me be myself, you’ll know every little step forward is a victory we’ve earned together.
I do enjoy the company of other cats, so a feline friend could be a wonderful fit for me. Dogs and children, though, aren’t part of my happily-ever-after. A calm, quiet home is where I’ll have the best chance to blossom.
My adoption fee is fully sponsored because everyone here believes I deserve a chance. What I need now is someone who sees past my cautious exterior and believes that every cat—even one who’s been overlooked for almost two years—is worthy of love, patience, and a forever home.
Maybe the reason I’ve waited this long is because I’ve been waiting for you.

Hi, I’m Jonesy. ❤️
I may be a little shy when we first meet, but underneath that cautious exterior is a very sweet girl who truly loves people. Once I feel comfortable, I’m happiest when my humans are nearby. I’ll look for you, enjoy your attention, and simply be happy knowing I have someone to call my own.
I’m a senior lady, and at this stage of my life, I’m not looking for anything complicated. I’m looking for a quiet, peaceful home where I can settle in, feel safe, and be loved. A soft place to nap, a kind person to keep me company, and a little patience while I find my confidence would mean the world to me.

I think I could do well with respectful children who understand that an older girl like me may need a little time to warm up. I would prefer to be the only pet in the home, without dogs or cats, so I can enjoy all the attention myself.
I’ve got so much love left to give. I just need someone willing to see past my initial shyness and give a sweet senior girl the chance to spend her golden years knowing what it feels like to truly belong. Maybe that someone is you.

We’re friendly, playful and talkative, but can be shy in new places. We love our Churu treats and enjoy attention on our own terms. 23. Appa & Little
Adult · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 50 mi from Haverhill

We’re Appa and Little, and we’ve been together through life’s changes. When our previous owner could no longer care for us, we found ourselves looking for a new beginning. We’ve always had each other, and we’re hoping our next chapter is one we get to share too. That’s why we’re looking for a home where we can stay together forever.
I’m Appa, the big guy—the extra-large black cat with an even bigger heart. I’m 8 years old, quiet, playful, and a little shy when we first meet. New situations can make me feel timid, so I need someone who understands that trust takes time. Once I feel safe, I really enjoy being brushed—it’s one of my favorite ways to relax. I’m not a fan of being picked up, but I’m happy to show my affection in my own quiet way.
And I’m Little, a 5-year-old gray tabby with a gentle soul. I can be shy at first too, but once I know you’re kind, I’m incredibly loving. I adore being petted and will happily soak up all the gentle attention you’re willing to give.
We’re both sweet, quiet boys who would love a peaceful home where we can blossom at our own pace. We’re good with other cats and respectful older children, but dogs aren’t really our thing.
If you’re looking for not one, but two loyal best friends, we promise we’re worth the patience. All we need is a little time, a lot of love, and the chance to stay together—just as we’ve always been.

Hi, I’m Honeybell!
I’m still learning that the world isn’t such a scary place. When we first meet, I’ll probably be a little shy and keep my distance. I just need a little time, patience, and someone who understands that trust isn’t built overnight.
Want to know the quickest way to my heart? Toys and Churu treats! Bring those out, and you’ll start to see my curious, playful side peek through. Every small victory helps me grow a little more confident.
My dream home is calm and quiet, with no children, where I can settle in at my own pace. I’m looking for a patient person who will celebrate the little milestones with me and help me blossom into the loving cat I’m meant to be.
I know I’m not the kind of cat who will jump into your lap on day one, but if you give me the chance, I promise I’ll be worth the wait. Maybe you’re the special someone I’ve been waiting for.
I am part of the Take A Chance On Me program, which means my adoption fee is lowered to help me find the right match.

25. Bean & Momo
Young (11 months) · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 27 mi from Haverhill

Bean and Momo are a 1-year-old bonded sister and brother, up to date on vaccinations WHO MUST BE ADOPTED TOGETHER. Here’s what their foster volunteers say about them:
How would you describe the cats' general personalities? Bean and Momo balance each other out wonderfully. Bean is quieter and more polite, while Momo is the rambunctious, adventurous, and slightly bratty brother. Both are shy and skittish with humans initially, but curious and motivated by food/treats. Bean is slightly more approachable for gentle pets if approached slowly, while Momo loves being near the action, lounging on the couch just out of reach, and playing.
Read more about Bean & Momo
Do the cats enjoy being pet? They are both learning to enjoy pets as they build trust. Bean warms up and purrs (with an oddly deep purr for a tiny cat) when relaxed. Momo has recently accepted pets down his back or head/eyebrow scritches, especially when relaxed near another cat or distracted by treats, though he can still be hesitant with approaching hands.
If yes, on what parts of their bodies do they like to be pet? Bean likes pets on her face, head, and back (along with occasional chin/chest scratches). Momo enjoys scritches on the back of his head, eyebrows, and down his back.
Are there any parts of their bodies that they do NOT like being touched? Neither likes sudden movements or being grabbed. Bean will sometimes dart off with a full-body pet. Momo is protective of his personal space when cornered or startled and prefers light, respectful touches.
Do the cats come on your lap? Both will crawl onto your lap for high-value treats (like Greenies or Churus), but they usually move away once the treats are gone.
Do the cats like to be held? No. Neither cat likes being picked up or held; Bean kicks to escape after a few seconds, and Momo gets distressed.
Do the cats sleep in your bed? They are generally kept in a separate room overnight due to young-cat nighttime zoomies. During the day, Bean occasionally naps in the bed if the sun is right, and Momo will venture onto the bed if he thinks everyone is asleep.
Do the cats seek your attention? They seek attention primarily around routine treat times! Momo will run over and look up at you on the couch for evening snacks. Bean tag-alongs quietly with her brother and other resident cats.
Do the cats like to play? Absolutely! They love playing together—chasing each other around the house, tag-teaming rolling toys, and wrestling. They both enjoy laser pointers, feather wands, fake rodents, springs, and electric toys.
What are their favorite games, toys, and scratchers? Laser pointers, plastic springs, feather wands, coir and cardboard scratchers, and playing chase with each other.
How vocal are the cats and what sounds do they make? Very quiet overall. Bean squeaks sadly when everyone is asleep and she wants to play. Momo will occasionally make soft whines if separated or bored. Neither meows frequently.
Do the cats always use the litter box? Yes, 100% reliable! However, both are extremely vigorous diggers, so high-walled litter boxes and a good vacuum are recommended.
What food, frequency, and treats do they enjoy? They eat scheduled breakfast and dinner meals wet/dry food without being picky. Greenies and Churus are their absolute favorite treats (Momo also loves cooked chicken, though he gets possessive with it!). Bean eats patiently, while Momo can be more eager.
Have either of the cats shown swatting, scratching, or biting behaviors?
Bean: Extremely gentle and peaceful. She has never scratched, bitten, or attacked anyone (except playful wrestling with Momo). She accepts treats very softly, occasionally taking a gentle nibble if fingers smell like treat dust.
Momo: Was defensive/swatty when he first arrived, but has improved significantly with socialization training. He now swats much less (mainly if cornered or startled), usually with claws retracted or just trying to reach a treat. He has never bitten or broken skin.

She has plenty of energy and loves having room to run, explore, and play. Whether she's chasing toys, investigating every corner of the house, or entertaining herself with kitten-like antics, Fiji can keep herself busy for hours. After she's burned off some energy, she's more than happy to settle in for pets, cuddles, and quality time with her family. And if treats or mealtime are involved, she'll be first in line—Fiji definitely loves her food!
Fiji would probably be happiest being your one and only feline getting all of your attention. She does get along with come other cats, but being around all the cats at the rescue does tend to stress her and could cause her to pick on quieter kitties. Dogs are a definite no for her - she would be happiest in a dog-free home where she can feel safe and confident. Respectful older children who understand cat boundaries would make wonderful companions for her.
If you're looking for an affectionate, playful, talkative companion who will keep you smiling and make your house feel like home, Fiji is ready to fill your life with love, fun, and plenty of conversation.

Adult · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 50 mi from Haverhill

Hi, I’m Prince!
I’m a handsome 4-year-old guy with bright eyes, a playful spirit, and a serious love for catnip. If there’s a catnip toy nearby, chances are I’ll be the first one to claim it!
I’m friendly, outgoing, and enjoy meeting new people. I like attention, playtime, and being involved in whatever is going on around me. Most people who meet me are surprised by what a social and fun cat I am.

I ended up at the shelter after I unexpectedly attacked my owner while they were sleeping. Because of this, I’m looking for a cat-savvy adopter who understands that some cats come with quirks and are willing to take the time to get to know me and help me succeed.
I do well with dogs, but I’m not a match for a home with small children. What I need most is an experienced owner who will appreciate my good qualities, respect my boundaries, and love me for who I am.
If you’re looking for a playful, outgoing companion and have experience with cats who may need a little extra understanding, I just might be the Prince you’ve been waiting for.

Why adopt an adult cat in Haverhill
An adult cat's personality is fully formed, so the rescue can tell you how they are with people, other pets and busy households. Many have lived in foster homes and are used to family life.
Grown cats are calmer and need less supervision than kittens, which suits people who work long hours or have young children.
