9. Gorgeous Orchard

Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

MEET GORGEOUS — AND YES, SHE REALLY IS! Gorgeous is a stunning little calico who came to us from our Orchard Project along with her siblings, Pinkaboo and Newton. When Gorgeous first arrived, she wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with us humans. She was a shy, timid, slightly swatty teenager who wasn’t quite convinced that people were something she needed in her life. So, Gorgeous entered our Feral to Friendly Program, and slowly… the walls started coming down. At first, she simply started looking at me differently. Instead of fear and suspicion, there was curiosity. Then came the little signs that told me we were getting somewhere — she would knead and march her tiny feet in place when I approached, almost like she was excited to see me.And then… she started actually looking forward to my visits.

Now, to be fair, I WAS usually carrying wet food, and Gorgeous is a girl who takes her wet food very seriously. But somewhere along the way, it stopped being just about the food. She started welcoming my touch. She discovered head rubs. Then belly rubs. And before long, this once-swatty little girl was flopping around and soaking up the attention. Gorgeous has now graduated to our Adoption Center, where she’s getting something incredibly important — attention and interaction from lots of different people. She’s learning that I’m not the only trustworthy human in the world and that new people can mean love, treats, pets and good things too.Gorgeous may still be shy when she first meets you. She’s probably not going to run into a stranger’s arms on day one. But give this girl a little patience and the chance to connect with you, and you will get to experience something really special — watching her choose YOU.I’ve watched it happen.I’ve watched fear turn into curiosity… curiosity turn into trust… and trust turn into affection. And I have absolutely no doubt that once Gorgeous feels safe in her forever home, she is going to make an amazing companion. Sometimes the best relationships aren’t instant.Sometimes they’re earned one head rub, one belly rub, one bowl of wet food and one tiny step at a time. And Gorgeous is worth every single one. Adult · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

MEET MILES — HE’S READY FOR HIS FOREVER HOME! This is the update we have been waiting to share… Miles is ready for adoption! When Miles was found on the side of busy I-295, we had no idea how long he had been out there. Cars flew past him while he struggled to survive, covered in ticks and unsure where his next meal—or any help—was going to come from. When he first came to us, Miles was scared and extremely anxious around food. At mealtime he would sometimes lunge or swat, almost as if he couldn’t believe the food was really his. We can only imagine what he had been through and how many meals he had missed. But then something beautiful happened.Miles learned that the food keeps coming. He learned that he is safe. And most importantly, he learned that people can be kind.

He rolls over, shows you his belly, folds himself in half and flounders around like a little fish because apparently there is NO SUCH THING as too much petting for Miles.Rub him. Scratch him. Love on him. Then please start all over again. And when you approach him, he gives you the sweetest, softest little meow. It’s almost like he’s saying:“Oh, hi. You came to see ME?” There is something incredibly special about watching a cat go from simply surviving to realizing that he is finally safe enough to love and be loved. We are SO proud of how far Miles has come. His story is everything rescue is about, and we are incredibly thankful that we were able to be there when he needed someone. Now there’s just one last piece of his story left to write… HOME.Miles is ready for someone who will never let him wonder where his next meal is coming from again. Someone whose hand will always be there for those giant head-butts. 11. Agatha Orchard

Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

Meet Agatha Agatha’s story is one of learning to trust—and discovering that being loved is actually pretty wonderful. She was once part of a colony where a kind resident made sure she and several other cats were cared for. When that person was no longer able to live on their own and had to move, the cats were suddenly left without their caretaker. Around the same time, Agatha and a couple of the other cats were found with cut-up and torn paw pads that needed medical attention, adding to our concern. With their caretaker gone and medical care needed, we made the decision to trap them and bring them into rescue so they could receive the care they needed—and never have to worry about being left behind again. For Agatha, adjusting to indoor life took time.

She was very shy and wary of people at first, but there was always something about her that told us she wanted to trust. She just needed the time and patience to figure it out for herself. And then one day, she did. Agatha finally realized that pets are pretty amazing! Now she absolutely loves being petted and soaking up affection from the people she trusts. She still enjoys the security of her favorite spot on the top tier of her den—especially when she’s waiting for her wet food to arrive. Agatha is looking for a quiet, patient home with someone who understands that trust doesn’t always happen overnight. Starting her in her own room or smaller space where she can feel secure would be ideal, allowing her to explore and adjust at her own pace. The shy ones can sometimes be overlooked. They need a little more time, a little more patience, and a little more understanding—but watching them finally let their guard down and choose to trust you makes it that much more special. We know Agatha’s person is out there. And when she finds them, we have a feeling the bond they share will be one of the strongest of all.

15. Twister Branch

Young · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

Meat Twister | Then NowThis handsome boy came to our rescue from Cinnaminson as part of a colony we were asked to assist with. He was actually trapped somewhat by mistake by someone who had lost their own kitty. Thankfully, I was asked if he was one of the cats I was looking for — and he was. Twister turned out to be a kitten who had not been trapped during the previous season. This is exactly why record-keeping and photos are so important in rescue work. Keeping detailed records ensures that no one gets left behind.Twister was trapped at the end of August and has been in our care ever since, being patiently socialized and worked with every single day.

Read more about Twister Branch

In addition to daily interaction from myself and other volunteers, Twister also had a dedicated feral “buddy” who worked with him weekly to make sure he received extra one-on-one attention. His buddy, Kaitlyn, spent time giving him treats, purr pops, fresh bedding and water, and most importantly — love. Watching his progress and seeing her excitement as he slowly softened and began to trust was truly joyful.I’m so happy to share that Twister is now fully rooming in the Adoption Center, integrated with the other cats and getting along wonderfully. The once scared, hissing, timid cat who didn’t want to be touched is now engaging, soliciting attention, following volunteers around, and welcoming full-body pets from head to toe.To see a frightened feral make this kind of progress and become adoptable is one of the most rewarding experiences in rescue. It’s hard to fully put into words — but this is why we do what we do. Twister is now available for adoption to the right home.He will need a patient, understanding family and must have other cats in the home, as he is very social and thrives with feline companionship. He will not be adopted as a solo cat.If you believe you can provide the right environment for Twister, I would love for you to apply and give him the forever family he deserves.

He adores affection and is a champion head-booper, happily bumping his head into your hand to ask for more pets. He has the softest little meows and can be won over in record time with a Churu treat. Both boys are huge fans of Churu treats. They get along wonderfully with other cats and would do best in a patient home that gives them time to settle in.Alfrod and Aros share a special bond and must be adopted together. 21. Stephie

Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

Stephie is such a unique looking young cat.. Stephie is now two-years old. She developed a nervous habit of over grooming and sometimes requires steroid shots to help decrease the overgrooming. This began when Stephie went to a foster home where there was a dog. The dog never aggressed towards Stephie, but just the same she became very distressed and started over grooming. We are hoping that a calm home without dogs will help her to feel more secure. Stephie also added a daily med to her routine, to help her woth anxiety, and that has helped woth decreasing overgrooming. Stephie loves to lay next to you on a sofa. She gets along with other cats. Stephie is also available for our long-term Foster program also, due to her special needs.

23. Creamy

Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat)

Creamy is a delightful young kitty who faced big challenges when a kitten. She was found on the porch of a hoarder home, with a bad case of entropian of her eyelids. She also had a URI. Creamy was treated for the URI successfully but she was too small to have surgery for the eyelids. Once she gained weight and was over three pounds she was scheduled for the eyelids surgery and spay surgery together. All went well with the surgeries but several hours afterwards she had a neurological episode and temporarily lost control of her limbs.Creamy had to relearn how to stand, to walk, and to climb. She was determined to be a happy kitten though and after several months she was doing all three.

Creamy was left with CH like symptoms though, so she wobbles when she walks and doesn't have the ability to coordinate her limbs enough to climb into a litter box. Creamy faithfully goes on puppy pads place in front of the litter box though. Creamy has a happy little chirp and loves to wobble run. She gets aling with other cats and is now hoping to find a forever home.

Adopting a cat in Burlington County

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
