1. Charlotte
Senior (12 years) · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) · 36 mi from Charlotte

Char/Meck Animal Control was notified by a couple that a cat had shown up at their house. She was scanned for a microchip that came back to the SCHS...from 2015! Unregistered, we have CHARLOTTE back and have caught her up on her vetting. She is a total sweetheart: calm, friendly, but with not many teeth. This, however, does not stop her from eating and she enjoys her meals. She is also four-paw declawed, but doesn't hold that against us. She will make a wonderful lap cat!
The standard adoption fee is $120 cash or $125 debit/credit. This includes feline testing, vaccines, spaying/neutering, micro-chipping and de-worming. You may complete an application to start the adoption process at www.stanlycountyhumanesociety.org, under the 'Adoption' tab. Like us on facebook at Stanly County Humane Society Cats. 2. Shy
Young (6 months) · Male · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) · 36 mi from Charlotte

SHY and his siblings showed up at a local home back in June with their mama. While the residents knew they couldn’t keep them, they also couldn’t turn their backs. They fed and cared for them until the SCHS could finally take them in. Shy was nervous upon intake, but has really progressed. He enjoys the catio, and visiting with and getting affection from volunteers. He does great with other cats and is sure to be a good lap warmer.
The standard adoption fee is $120 cash or $125 debit/credit. This includes feline testing, vaccines, spaying/neutering, micro-chipping and de-worming. 6. G. Snitch
Kitten (4 months 17 days) · Male · Domestic Medium Hair / Bombay / Mixed (medium coat) · 27 mi from Charlotte

Meet Golden Snitch!Four months old. Professional cuddler. Former roadside fugitive.G Snitch wasn’t exactly looking for a home when he was found. He was a small feral kitten found in the middle of a busy road, and thankfully someone decided his tiny life was worth stopping for.(Yep, that’s me - his foster mom!I knew he was he was special when I looked down at him on the road, and he looked into my eyes and, I mean, deep into my eyes!)At first, G Snitch wasn’t convinced this whole “human” thing was going to work out.In fact, it took 19 DAYS before he finally purred.NINETEEN. DAYS. (My 8-year-old daughter got the first purr)But once he figured out that humans could mean soft beds, a full belly, gentle scratches, cuddles, and feeling safe...

18. Zahli
Kitten (3 months 26 days) · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) · 36 mi from Charlotte

ZAHLI was diagnosed with Glaucoma in her right eye. While vets hoped to wait until she was a little bigger to remove it, it was on the verge of rupturing so surgery was done. One of the SCHS' great foster moms stepped up to care for Zahli through her recovery and now she's ready for her forever home. This easygoing, affectionate girl loves other cats, dogs and people. She enjoys being carried around like the princess that she is and she sleeps with her foster parents at night.

28. Velvet
Adult (1 year 5 months) · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) · 36 mi from Charlotte

VELVET has been with the SCHS since she was a kitten. She was adopted and returned, and the only way we can explain why is because she's all-things quirky. She enjoys sitting on top of our stackable washer/dryer, to zoom around playing with the most minute piece of litter (or nothing at all), to chew on most things plastic, to sit on your lap for lovin's, and to help you with your homework, paperwork, etc. She doesn't like to be snuck up on, to be held a long time or to have other cats get all up in her face. AND WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER! She's so much fun and a real bright spot in the cat room. Let's find the perfect quirky home for her!
The standard adoption fee is $120 cash or $125 debit/credit.

ZELDA was found as a lone stray, as so many kittens are. She’s a sweet baby that initially had a kitty cold, but is now feeling fine. She’s a quiet, go-with-the-flow little thing that would very much benefit from lots of TLC in her forever home. The standard adoption fee is $120 cash or $125 debit/credit. 30. Cinder
Adult (1 year 4 months) · Female · Domestic Medium Hair / Mixed (medium coat) · 36 mi from Charlotte

Beautiful CINDER came in as a timid stray kitten. She was adopted a few months later, but recently returned because she was still hiding. Her adopter thinks she needs a quieter home and we agree. Cinder needs someone who has the time to work with her socially. That simply means closing bedroom and bathroom doors when not in use (so she has fewer places to hide), playing with her and handling her a lot. Regular brushing is a good way to connect. She really is a sweet girl and does love people.

Adopting a cat with children in Charlotte
Bring the whole family to meet the cat before you adopt, and ask the rescue how the cat behaves around children your kids' ages.
Teach children to let the cat come to them, to stroke gently, and to leave the cat alone while it's eating, sleeping or using the litter box. Give the cat a high or quiet spot to retreat to.
Relaxed adult cats are often a better match for young children than kittens, which scratch and nip while they play.
