1. Charlotte
Senior (12 years) · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat)

Char/Meck Animal Control was notified by a couple that a cat had shown up at their house. She was scanned for a microchip that came back to the SCHS...from 2015! Unregistered, we have CHARLOTTE back and have caught her up on her vetting. She is a total sweetheart: calm, friendly, but with not many teeth. This, however, does not stop her from eating and she enjoys her meals. She is also four-paw declawed, but doesn't hold that against us. She will make a wonderful lap cat!
The standard adoption fee is $120 cash or $125 debit/credit. This includes feline testing, vaccines, spaying/neutering, micro-chipping and de-worming. You may complete an application to start the adoption process at www.stanlycountyhumanesociety.org, under the 'Adoption' tab. Like us on facebook at Stanly County Humane Society Cats. SHY and his siblings showed up at a local home back in June with their mama. While the residents knew they couldn’t keep them, they also couldn’t turn their backs. They fed and cared for them until the SCHS could finally take them in. Shy was nervous upon intake, but has really progressed. He enjoys the catio, and visiting with and getting affection from volunteers. He does great with other cats and is sure to be a good lap warmer.

Kitten (4 months 17 days) · Male · Domestic Medium Hair / Bombay / Mixed (medium coat)

Meet Golden Snitch!Four months old. Professional cuddler. Former roadside fugitive.G Snitch wasn’t exactly looking for a home when he was found. He was a small feral kitten found in the middle of a busy road, and thankfully someone decided his tiny life was worth stopping for.(Yep, that’s me - his foster mom!I knew he was he was special when I looked down at him on the road, and he looked into my eyes and, I mean, deep into my eyes!)At first, G Snitch wasn’t convinced this whole “human” thing was going to work out.In fact, it took 19 DAYS before he finally purred.NINETEEN. DAYS. (My 8-year-old daughter got the first purr)But once he figured out that humans could mean soft beds, a full belly, gentle scratches, cuddles, and feeling safe...

ZAHLI was diagnosed with Glaucoma in her right eye. While vets hoped to wait until she was a little bigger to remove it, it was on the verge of rupturing so surgery was done. 23. Velvet
Adult (1 year 5 months) · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat)

VELVET has been with the SCHS since she was a kitten. She was adopted and returned, and the only way we can explain why is because she's all-things quirky. She enjoys sitting on top of our stackable washer/dryer, to zoom around playing with the most minute piece of litter (or nothing at all), to chew on most things plastic, to sit on your lap for lovin's, and to help you with your homework, paperwork, etc. She doesn't like to be snuck up on, to be held a long time or to have other cats get all up in her face. AND WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER! She's so much fun and a real bright spot in the cat room. Let's find the perfect quirky home for her!
The standard adoption fee is $120 cash or $125 debit/credit.

ZELDA was found as a lone stray, as so many kittens are. She’s a sweet baby that initially had a kitty cold, but is now feeling fine. She’s a quiet, go-with-the-flow little thing that would very much benefit from lots of TLC in her forever home. The standard adoption fee is $120 cash or $125 debit/credit. 25. Nyx
Kitten · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

When Nyx first appeared in November 2025, she'd dart beneath the porch to hide. But every evening, she'd reappear on the Ring camera, calling out like the princess she is until her evening meal was served. After a couple weeks of coaxing (and plenty of irresistible food), she decided indoor life was more suitable for royalty, pushed her way inside, and made herself right at home. Unfortunately, the resident cat court was not pleased with this outsider and demanded her removal at once.
At an estimated 18 months old, Princess Nyx now has her own private quarters in her foster mom's office while she waits for her forever kingdom.
Read more about Nyx
She loves her Cattasaurus cat cave (which goes with her!), exploring paper bags, curling up beside her people, and lounging in sunny windows. She also takes her supervisory duties seriously and keeps a close eye on her foster mom's computer work and all arriving delivery people.
Nyx loves other cats, but after surviving life outdoors, she prefers feline companions who respect her royal boundaries. She'd love a chill cat buddy with good manners who won't rush the friendship.
She sports a small scar beneath her left eye from her former outdoor life, but every princess needs a good origin story, and Nyx says it only adds to her charm.

Hey there human! My name is Kobe, and I am a 5 month old good boy. I came to the rescue as an orphaned kitten with my sister. She has since been adopted. I hope to find a home soon, I have been waiting for so long. I like to follow you around and gently rub up against your feet until you notice my sweet face! If you pick me up I will snuggle in your arms until I am ready to play again! I do get along with other cats, but of course the cat would have to tolerate my playful demeanor. I have been around children, and I have also met a couple dogs. I am a bit apprehensive of dogs but with time I will adapt!

Adopting a cat in Richmond County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
