Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) positive cats can live normal lives both in quality and duration. They do take special care in terms of monitoring them for signs of infection. FIV can be passed from cat to cat via deep bite wounds, but not from casual contact so positive cats can live with negative cats without the fear of spreading FIV as long as they get along and are spayed/neutered. How to adopt from Colony Cats (& dogs)

We have an application that requires the potential adopter to wait until their application can be verified. Once everything checks out the adopter comes and picks up their new fur member of the family and signs a contract. One of the highlights of our contract states that if for ANY reason at ANY time they cannot care for the animal, they must return the cat or dog back to Colony Cats (& dogs). Our adoption fees are $125 for kittens 6 months and younger; $75 for kittens over 6 months and adults up to 7 years; $50 for 7 years and older. If adopting 2 kittens/cats at the same time there is a $25 discount. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, Feline Leukemia and FIV tested (cats), heartworm tested (dogs), microchip, flea prevention, vaccinations (FVRCP for cats and DHLPP for dogs), rabies vaccine (if kittens or puppies are old enough to receive a rabies vaccine). If not, the new owner will need to go to their vet to get this done.

Adopting a cat in Pataskala

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
