9. Sensei

Adult · Male · Domestic Short Hair · 5 mi from Ardmore

Meet SENSEI. This sweet boy is looking for a forever home. After all he has been through, could YOU be the one he has been waiting for?

Read his heartbreaking story below.

For days, he wandered back and forth, crying into the quiet night like he was calling for someone who had simply forgotten to come back for him. Anyone who heard him could feel it—this wasn’t just a stray cat. He was looking for home.

The first time volunteers went out to find him, he was gone. They searched for over an hour, calling softly, hoping he’d answer. But the night stayed still.

Then came a message—he’s back.

Read more about Sensei

Within minutes, one of the volunteers returned. And there he was, eating quietly, as if exhaustion had finally outweighed his fear. When she reached for him, he didn’t run. He didn’t fight. He allowed himself to be picked up, gently placed into a carrier—like he still trusted that being chosen meant he was safe.

When they scanned him and found a microchip, hope filled the room. This had to be it. After everything, he was going home.

But he wasn’t.

At 11 years old, “Sensei” had already lived several lives. Adopted at three, forgotten years later. Found again by someone who cared, who gave him warmth, who even claimed him as their own when no one else came forward.

For a little while, it seemed like he had finally found his place.

Until he didn’t.

Two months after being loved and wanted, he was gone again—left to cry outside, searching, waiting, hoping. This time, no one came looking. Not the first person. Not the second. Not even the third, who once called him theirs.

Three times, he gave his heart away.

Three times, he was left behind.

And still… he trusted.

That first night in safety, he drank nearly 20 ounces of water, as if his body was trying to recover from everything his heart had endured. But he didn’t stop being gentle. He didn’t stop being loving.

Now, he rests somewhere warm, finally able to sleep without fear.

Soon, he will be given another chance.

Somehow, despite everything, he still believes that the next person won’t leave. Will that next person be you?

Despite a rough start, he remains a loving, cuddly companion who adores pets and affection. While he isn't a lap cat, he tolerates being held briefly and loves hanging out near his favorite person. Sensei strongly fears other cats and must be in a home with no other pets.

If you would like to be that special someone who can provide Sensei with the true forever home he had been in search of, please complete the adoption application below.

19. Yogi

Adult · Male · Bengal / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Ardmore

Yogi is a 6 year-old male Bengal, neuterer, microchipped, INDOOR ONLY, and up to date on vaccines.

About Yogi:

Read more about Yogi

We call Yogi our forever kitten because he is rather tiny (10 lbs) and gives off kitten energy. He is a majestic little guy - his coat is absolutely beautiful and shimmers in the sun.
Like most cats, Yogi sleeps the majority of the day but when he is awake he loves to be around his humans and absolutely loves playtime. His favorite toy is a fishing-rod style toy and he loves to leap through the air to catch it. He is an amazing athlete! He also loves to chase and eat flies.
Yogi is fine with older children but does not like to be chased or grabbed by little ones. He is not aggressive, he will react by hiding.
Yogi does not like to be picked up. He loves pets and nuzzles, and he will cuddle up to you but it has to be on his own terms.
He does not tolerate nail trims very well so he needs scratching posts.
Litter trained
Eats wet and dry food
Currently takes transdermal Prozac (cream swiped in his ear 1x day). This was started a couple months ago to try to reunite our cats but has not helped so I believe it can be stopped once he has settled in his new home. I will provide his meds and show you how I administer, or I can wean him off before his rehoming if you aren’t comfortable.
Was last seen by a vet in August. He has an early stage dental resorptive lesion impacting 1 tooth. At some point when it begins cause pain the tooth will need to be extracted.

Ideal home: We feel Yogi will thrive in a pet-free home (or with a dog who is confirmed to be cat-friendly) with owners who can give daily playtime and enrichment. Yogi doesn’t require a ton of time, but he does like to be played with daily and consistently. I also think he would enjoy enriching activities like food puzzles and being trained to do tricks if that’s in your wheelhouse.

Ideal home does not have small children as Yogi is fearful of children who grab and chase.
Please note his adoption fee is $300

How to adopt from Animal Coalition of Delaware County, Inc.

We believe in an adoption approach that considers important details for finding the right fit, such as a person's home, interests and lifestyle. We then match those with an animal's social, exercise and training needs. Unlike “pass/fail” application programs, we strive to match people and animals through education and discovery. We accomplish this through conversation to create an effective, pleasant adoption experience — and most important — to make lasting matches. Each situation, adopter and animal requires a different approach. And while we reserve the right to refuse an adoption, we always make every effort to work with you to address concerns or find the most appropriate companion animal. Before falling in love with one of our animals, please make sure that you are: At least 21 years of age In possession of a valid photo ID Allowed to have a cat or dog where you live (proof of home ownership or copy of lease with pet clause allowing pets is required) Able and willing to spend the time and money necessary to provide the training, medical treatment and proper care for the animal Able to provide veterinary references for current and past veterinarians PLEASE ALLOW 4-5 BUSINESS DAYS FOR YOUR APPLICATION TO BE THOROUGHLY PROCESSED BY ONE OF OUR ADOPTION COUNSELORS If the animals are still listed on our website they are still available. Adopting a cat in Ardmore

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
