1. Gary
Young · Male · Tuxedo / Maine Coon / Mixed (medium coat)

I'm a six month old medium haired boy who started out trapped behind a wall for three days in a campground laundry room! I was rescued by a guy who was seeing the world in his RV. We had many adventures until medical problems forced him to give me up. I'm a cuddly boy who loves playing with feather toys. I'm now charming everyone at North Cascade Vet Hospital where I plan to rule the lobby - stop by and see me, I bet you won't be able to leave without me!

5. Jesse
Adult · Male · Tuxedo / Mixed (short coat)

I’m Jesse a big handsome tuxedo boy. I’m seven years old and I have a lot of stories to tell. My first family moved away and left me behind. Then some kind neighbors adopted me since I’m so lovable. Fast forward six years and THEY moved across the country and had to leave me here! Seems like the van driver didn’t want to listen to my commentary all the way to Illinois. Ok, I am pretty vocal I’ll admit. Maybe there’s some Siamese in my family tree, who knows? I’ve got a lot to say but I’ve heard some people find it charming. If that’s you, get me out of here! I’m lonely. But only for people, I’m not a fan of cats. I’m all the cat you need!

We are four year old sisters who are one half Kurilian Bobtail. That was our dad, and mom was a calico house-cat. Our foster mom had never even heard of that breed until today! She googled it. I’m Jet (Black) and I’m the one who loves to be held and packed around while Buttercup (Calico) takes more time to decide if she should trust you. She calls it being discerning. We are both litter box trained and easy to have around. We have bob tails and beautiful markings. We’ve always been together but might consider going solo for the right home.

19. Mira
Young · Male · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed

Mira is a one-and-a-half-year-old Tuxedo cat with a personality as bold as his markings. Thanks to his absolute love for his exercise wheel, he has a very slender, athletic build. He sports several distinct markings, including unique patterns around his eyes that make it look like he’s wearing mascara.Mira is a rambunctious, loving boy who is truly the life of the party. Brimming with energy, he seems to take his life inspiration from Jim Carrey movies, channeling that comedic, high-octane spirit into everything he does. If you call his name, he will gladly "yell" back and forth with you, often following up the conversation by hiding behind a wall to play peek-a-boo.
Read more about Mira
Occasionally, he’ll drift into a "thousand-yard stare," looking completely perplexed by the mysteries of the world around him.Health & HabitsDietary Needs: Mira has some gastrointestinal sensitivities that require special care. We have successfully managed these with a specific diet, which will need to be maintained in his new home.Quirks: He has a habit of chewing on plastic; while he doesn't seem to swallow it, his adopters should keep an eye on him to keep him safe. Mira is very intelligent and can be very persistent when he sets his mind to get something he wants! The Ideal Match: The best home for Mira would be one that is patient and affectionate. While he is a loving boy, his high energy makes him a bit of a handful! He would excel in a home with plenty of enrichment opportunities to keep him occupied and keep his mind sharp. He can be shy around new people and may get spooked and hide initially, so he needs a family that will let him settle in at his own pace. Mira is currently in a household with other cats and does very well with them. He has lived with dogs and children, though watch him closely, as he can become impatient with too much stimulation and may try to scratch. Mira loves to snuggle right next to his person at bedtime, but he’s not a bed hog. Just a very sweet boy. All of our cats come spayed or neutered, microchipped, and with age-appropriate vaccinations. 20. Skye
2 Years · Female · Russian Blue / Mixed

Russian Blue Alert!
Say Hello to Skye, our 2 year old Russian Blue Mix!
Skye is a little more reserved than her sister, Molly and wants to make sure you're trustworthy before she allows you to bask in all her glory. She isn't above a little Churru bribery though. Like her sister, she does enjoy those full body pets. Once you've won this girl over, she's all yours.
Skye is looking for a quiet, patient home that can let her get comfortable and show off that amazing personality on her own terms. She also is fine with hanging out at home while her person is at work, but would prefer there to be a cat tree or shelves that she can claim as her own.

Looking for a cat to always keep your lap warm and heart full? Well look no further than beautiful 7 year old Myrtle! Myrtle is a voluptuous girl with a stunning face and green eyes. She loves people, so much so that she will curl up on your chest and be unable to get close enough to you. Myrtle is overflowing with love and is a people's cat. Myrtle lives for attention and will smother you with love, even giving you love bites. She has also found that giving you a nip gets her attention & she wants your full attention! She is very chatty and is a cat you can have conversations with. She enjoys lounging on a window perch and sun bathing.

When you get home from a long day, she will be right there to let you know you are loved. She enjoys a good play session and goes crazy for a laser pointer. She does not, however, like other cats. She is very territorial and gets fixated on them which makes her anxious. Even the sight of other cats stresses her out. She is also very picky with food. She has a sensitive stomach and can only eat really small amounts of wet food, gradually given over time. Otherwise, she eats dry food just fine but hasn't found one that she really loves yet. She needs a large covered cat box to help contain her many kicks of litter.Myrtle would thrive in a nice quiet home with no other cats where she can be the center of attention. She seems to do fine with the small resident dog. Myrtle would do best in a home with either no children, or older children that understand love-bites, so likely tweens and older would be the best fit. If you are a patient, experienced cat person looking for a solo cat companion, Myrtle would love to meet you!All of our cats come spayed or neutered, microchipped, and with age-appropriate vaccinations. Senior · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

Meet Charlie (aka Chuckles, aka The Dread Pirate Chuckles) At 13 years old, Charlie has mastered the art of gratitude.Whether you call him Charlie, Chuckles, or the Dread Pirate Chuckles (thanks to the one adorable little canine that still peeks out), he's the kind of cat who reminds you every day that love is worth fighting for.Charlie's early life wasn't kind. He spent who knows how long surviving on the streets before finally finding his way to us. When he arrived, he was in heartbreaking condition. He had severe dental disease, painful abscesses, and uncontrolled diabetes. Despite everything he'd been through, though, Charlie never stopped believing that people were worth loving.Over the months that followed, Charlie patiently endured two dental surgeries that left him with just three teeth.

He took every medication, accepted every insulin injection, and trusted us completely as we helped him heal. Today he's comfortable, happy, and living his very best life.Charlie is diabetic, which means he'll need insulin injections every 12 hours for the rest of his life. The good news is that he's an absolute pro. His injections take just a moment, and he accepts them with the same quiet trust that has carried him through everything else. He also has limited vision, but you would hardly know it. He confidently wanders the house, enjoys exploring our catios, and has no trouble finding his favorite sunny spots or your lap. And that's where Charlie truly shines. He's not looking for adventure. He's looking for you.Charlie is happiest curled up beside his person, soaking up gentle head scritches, naps, and the comfort of simply being loved. He is deeply affectionate, endlessly loyal, and seems genuinely thankful for every soft bed, every meal, and every kind touch. He's the sort of companion who quietly fills your home with warmth. One of Charlie's most remarkable qualities is how gentle and accepting he is with everyone he meets. He gets along beautifully with other cats, does well with respectful dogs, and has never met a person he didn't want to befriend. Charlie simply loves companionship, whether it comes with two legs or four.Charlie may require a little extra care, but what he gives in return is immeasurable. If you're willing to spend a few minutes each day managing his diabetes, he'll spend every day reminding you what unconditional love looks like.Around here, we often say we all aspire to be a little more like Charlie—happy to be here, grateful for the people who love us, and ready to return that love with our whole hearts. If you're looking for a devoted best friend, Charlie is waiting. All of our cats come spayed or neutered, microchipped, and with age-appropriate vaccinations. Adult · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

This lovely lady is Patchouli! She is a beautiful, five year old tuxedo with the silkiest fur and mightiest whiskers. You’ll often find her dreaming in a ray of sunshine or chirping at the birds from the window sill, and she loves snuggles and belly rubs. Patchouli is highly affectionate and often shows this by “grooming” you - AKA licking your arms, legs, head, and/or face if you let her! She also loves to climb around to the highest points in her environment to survey her kingdom. Bonus points if those high climbing spots are window-adjacent! Though she has lots of love to give and has a very friendly disposition towards everyone she meets, Patchouli is prone to overstimulation and will thrive in a lower traffic home without other animals or young children.

24. Poppy
Adult (3 years 1 month) · Female · American Shorthair / Tuxedo / Mixed (short coat)

Got an extra cat bed and a big heart? I'm looking for a patient, loving person who will give me the time I need to blossom. I was rescued from under a house with my five kittens, and its been quite a journey. My foster mom says I'm the gentlest cat she's ever known — I would never bite or swat. For most of my nearly two years, I didn't know people could be a source of love and comfort. I was a devoted mom who always let my babies eat first and kept them safe when things got scary. Then something wonderful happened: I discovered pets, purring, and even laps! Im still learning, and I sometimes hide when I feel unsure, but Im doing it less and less. I love being around other cats and don't mind dogs. Im a litter-box pro and, best of all, I've decided I never want to live outside again. I'm ready to become the soft, spoiled housecat I was meant to be. I just need someone who believes in me and will be patient while I learn how wonderful life can be. Maybe you're my special someone?

25. Juno
Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

Juno is a 2-year old, energetic tuxedo who'd love to make you some biscuits! Juno is curious about new people, and loves to listen to birds through the window. She’ll come right up to you when you approach her, requesting pets and rubbing her head and tail against your legs. She has a loud purr, especially when kneading, and is interested in feathery toys, looking out windows, and investigating goings on around the house!Juno seeks out human companionship, and needs a household that can provide her with quality time together. Her foster home has a medium size dog and a small, older cat- she has strong boundaries with them but has been adapting to their presence over time.

However, it’s clear to us that she would be most comfortable as the only pet in the household. Juno surprises us and makes us laugh every day- be sure to check out our pictures for a little taste of her variety of resting poses. She’s a special cat, and would be a great addition to a home that’s looking for a fun, silly presence around the house. All of our cats come spayed or neutered, microchipped, and with age-appropriate vaccinations. Young cats have an adoption fee of $175. If you would like to apply to be a forever home for this cat, please fill out a statement of interest at www.alternativehumanesociety.com. Unless otherwise indicated, all our cats and kittens are best suited for indoor-only life.

Adopting a cat in Island County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
