6. Monkey Boy
Senior (14 years 2 months) · Male · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 32 mi from Lyons

Monkey Boy is an older man, but he has so much love left to give. He’s not big on sitting in
laps, but he is happy to let you pet him as much as you want. He has an adorable underbite and
gorgeous green eyes. MB was always interested in playing with string toys, Old Arthur
(arthritis) was limiting his fun. The vet found a treatment for him that has been very effective
and now he’s enjoying lots more playtime. He has excellent manners, never knocking over
anything in his foster home. He enjoys pate, but isn’t a big fan of wet food with chunks. This
wonderful gentleman would likely adjust to any circumstances, but he would probably appreciate a slower paced home that would provide him with a little, daily, playtime.
Read more about Monkey Boy
He has had a private room in his foster home so his comfort level with other animals is undetermined, but he has such a sweet demeanor it seems possible he could adjust to other pets and/or children. Don’t let his advanced years put you off, he’s a really great guy.

10. Mr. Cheeks
Adult · Male · Domestic Short Hair / Tabby (short coat) · 43 mi from Lyons

No one knows how Mr. Cheeks ended up living outside, but one thing is certain: he is grateful to be safe and warm indoors again.
Mr. Cheeks was clearly once a beloved pet and has quickly readjusted to the comforts of home - regular meals, cozy places to relax, and plenty of affection. Gentle, easygoing, and well-mannered, Mr. C is a delightful companion who appreciates the quieter side of life. He is happiest relaxing near his people, curling up on a lap when invited, enjoys all conversations, and receiving his absolute favorite treat: belly rubs.
He enjoys watching birds and squirrels through the window, but he has no interest in joining them outside. For other entertainment he likes ping pong balls, stuffed mice and wand toys. Mr. Cheeks has impeccable house manners. He doesn't scratch furniture, climb on countertops, or show much interest in cat trees, but show him a warm, soft blanket and he's a purring biscuit maker. If you're looking for a calm, affectionate companion who appreciates your attention and the comforts of home, Mr. Cheeks may be your perfect match.
Mr. Cheeks is estimated at 3-5 years old, and he's neutered, vaccinated, and tested negative for FIV/FELV.

11. Atomic Kitten
Adult · Female · Domestic Medium Hair / Russian Blue (medium coat) · 43 mi from Lyons

Atomic Kitten is a sweet, playful girl with a serious love of freeze-dried treats and chin scratches. She runs, plays, and explores just like any other cat, then happily settles in for affection from her favorite person. She is a bit of an introvert and can be a little timid when adjusting to new people or situations. Atomic Kitten may not make the first move right away, so she would do best with someone who is comfortable initiating interaction and giving her the time she needs to feel safe. Once she chooses you as her person, her loving, affectionate side begins to shine.Atomic Kitten does well with other cats, but she is more interested in her people and does not require a feline companion in her future home. She could be happy with friendly cats or as the only kitty soaking up all the attention for herself.Atomic Kitten is also an FIP survivor. Her illness affected her muscle control, leaving her with some incontinence as a lasting effect. She has some bladder and bowel control, but frequent “sprinkles” and the occasional surprise poo make diapers the easiest way to keep her clean and comfortable. Her routine is much simpler than it may sound. She typically needs two or three diaper changes each day and a quick five-minute butt bath most days. Regular hygiene shaves also help make caring for her easier. Once you get the hang of it, her routine quickly becomes just another normal part of the day.Atomic Kitten doesn’t know she is a special-needs cat. She knows she is a snack connoisseur, professional toy chaser, and devoted companion who happens to wear diapers. She has already overcome the hardest part of her story. Now she is looking for a patient person willing to make the first move and give this extraordinary girl the safe, loving forever she deserves. She is currently being fostered in Lakewood, CO and approved applicants can meet her in home or if preferred her foster parent is happy to coordinate visits at Elevated Communities Cat Cafe if scheduled in advance. Please Note: Elevated Communities Cat Café is located in Longmont, Colorado. There is a $12 entry fee to visit the café, which helps support the care of the resident cats and the mission of Elevated Communities. Walk-ins are typically welcome or you can visit https://elevatedcommunitiescatcafe.org/visit to schedule your visit ahead of time.

12. Holstein
Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 43 mi from Lyons

My Name is Holstien. It's an ironic name based on my coloring because I was the runt. When my family was found I was 1.5 weeks old and only about 60% as big as my siblings. Now i'm not the littlest but I am the bravest. I love eating and am a little round. My beautiful belly has a heart shaped mark on it. I sure do love people too. If you hold me I'll be so happy and if you play with me I'll be even happier. I'm a well balanced kitty, just the right amount of confidence and curiosity to be your forever friend.
I'm 9 weeks old, spayed and chipped.
DOB August 2026.

13. Yang
Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 43 mi from Lyons

Hi name is Yang, I am so cuddly, playful too. If you hold me I'll just melt and relax into you. Napping together is great in between play sessions. My family was found abandoned when I was just 1.5 weeks old. My poor mom was starving. I've had the benefit of being raised by people and my loving mom. She loves people, so I do too. I think I'm pretty mellow. Sometimes I just watch my crazy siblings then I'll but it's ok to be pretty calm too. Some people think my ears are too big for army head. I look a little unique.
I'm 9 weeks old, spayed and chipped. My black and white coat is short and tidy. I have an old soul for a new kitty.

14. Yin
Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 43 mi from Lyons

My Name is Yin. I am so brave and playful. My mom was abandoned and took care of us alone until we all got fostered when I was 1.5 weeks. I'm the adventurer in the group so that means I love to play in new spaces like boxes, under sheets or anywhere adventure takes me. When I'm not playing or being curious I'll come sleep on your lap or sit on your shoulder like a parrot. I am just so much fun.
Please consider adopting me. I'm black and white and my short fur keeps things easy peasy. I'm 9 weeks old, chipped and spayed.

16. Celery + Onion
Adult · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 43 mi from Lyons

Celery & Onion: Night Owls Seeking Their Kind of HumanWe are Celery and Onion, a bonded pair of clever, quirky cats who do things on our own schedule. We aren't your typical outgoing cats who will immediately greet you at the door, climb into your lap, or make themselves at home in a big, unfamiliar space. We need patience, understanding, and a human who knows that trust is earned rather than demanded. Our favorite time of day? Dusk, of course! That's when our whiskers twitch, our eyes brighten, and we begin our nightly adventures. We're true night owls, and we'd probably be happiest with someone who enjoys staying up late, appreciates a quiet household, and doesn't expect us to operate on a nine-to-five schedule. We're smart cats who have even learned to get used to the Roomba.
Read more about Celery + Onion
We're also very treat-motivated, so the way to our hearts may involve a little patience, a few snacks, and a willingness to let us decide when we're ready.Celery's Side of the Story:"Hello, I'm Celery! I'm the more sociable one of this duo, and when evening rolls around, I may wander around meowing to let you know that fresh wet food would be very much appreciated. I also enjoy pets, snuggles, ear scratches, and butt pets — but please remember that I'm the one in charge of when and how these things happen! When I'm feeling comfortable, I'll rub against you and your furniture to spread a little love (and probably some fur). I enjoy affection, but I need it to be on my terms. Let me approach you, listen to my signals, and respect it when I've had enough. If you can do that, we might just become good friends. I may need time to settle in and feel safe before showing you my affectionate side. Please don't take it personally if I need to watch you from a distance first or always. I'm learning that people can be kind, and I need the chance to figure that out for myself."Onion's Side of the Story"Greetings. I'm Onion, the thoughtful observer of the household. I prefer to admire humans from a comfortable distance rather than participate in all that unnecessary socializing. Cuddling? No, thank you. Uninvited pets? Also no, thank you.I do, however, have excellent taste in entertainment. A window with a sturdy, reinforced screen is prime real estate for bird-watching, neighborhood surveillance, and contemplating the mysteries of the universe. An elevated perch in the evening is another favorite, because important observations are best made from above. That said, as long as you are not watching nearby. I want solitude to enjoy my life.I also love treats, and if you bring out the right toy at the right hour of the night, you may discover that I have a playful side. I am clever, curious, and perfectly capable of enjoying life without being a lap cat. Please don't adopt me expecting to change my mind about cuddling or turn me into a cat who seeks human attention. My way of being is valid, too. I need a person who can appreciate me for who I am, even if our relationship looks more like quiet companionship than physical affection."Our Dream Home:We are looking for a calm, patient, kind, and adaptable human who understands that cats are individuals with their own boundaries, personalities, and timelines.A quiet, gentle atmosphere. Loud voices, forceful handling, and pushy interactions are not for us. We need someone who can move slowly, speak softly, and let us approach when we're ready.A night-owl human. We're most active around dusk and into the night. Someone who is comfortable being up late and enjoys our little evening routines would be a wonderful match.Plenty of safe hiding places. We may hide a lot, especially while adjusting to a new home. We need accessible, safe places where we can retreat without being chased, cornered, or pulled out. We also may hide for the rest of our being. If you live in a small space with minimal nooks this will help our bonding.A gradual transition. We do best when we can begin in a smaller, secure space and slowly become comfortable b

Read more about Sabrina
Sabrina was rescued after someone dumped her, along with her five kittens.
We were notified about a cat under a deck and were told she was feral. When we arrived, it was discovered she was not feral. Instead, she was super sweet. She is a young cat, not more than 2 years. She likes to snuggle and sit in your lap. She is beautiful and looks like an ancient Egyptian painting. Sleek, black and long. She takes time to warm up to other cats, but with patience it's doable. It took her a few days to relax around my cats, she was scared. However, I have 7 cats, so it was overwhelming.
We also think she could be happy living without another cat. She would be fine with older children and needs a quiet home. All in all, she is a sweet cat who needs some time to settle in and get used to being away from her kittens. She can be seen in rural Ft. Lupton.

THE FIRST STEP to adopting an EAPL animal is to fill out a DOG ADOPTION APPLICATION. EAPL is a foster-based rescue. We do not have a shelter facility where applicants can come look at multiple animals at one time. All of our animals are in foster homes that range from Denver, to Evergreen, to Northeast Colorado - where they are loved and cared for until they are placed in a forever home. The adoption process begins when you complete an online Adoption Application, naming either one or a few of our Available Animals or providing a description of the type of animal you hope to adopt. Completing an application does not restrict you to a specific animal, nor does it obligate you to adopt. Once we have received your application and determined that you are a good match for the requested animal, we will contact you. The foster parent will then contact you to arrange a time for you to meet the animal, at which time you can decide if you would like to complete the adoption. You may be asked to visit the animal more than once before taking it home. After your initial meeting with the animal, one of our volunteers will conduct a home visit. This may occur before you take the animal home or when the animal is delivered to you. Once the adoption is approved, you will need to complete our Preliminary Adoption Agreement and pay the adoption fee. We will keep in contact over the next few days to make sure everyone is happy. If so, we will mail out an official Adoption Contract for

Adopting a cat in Lyons
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
