1. Charlotte

Senior (12 years) · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat)

Char/Meck Animal Control was notified by a couple that a cat had shown up at their house. She was scanned for a microchip that came back to the SCHS...from 2015! Unregistered, we have CHARLOTTE back and have caught her up on her vetting. She is a total sweetheart: calm, friendly, but with not many teeth. This, however, does not stop her from eating and she enjoys her meals. She is also four-paw declawed, but doesn't hold that against us. She will make a wonderful lap cat!
The standard adoption fee is $120 cash or $125 debit/credit. This includes feline testing, vaccines, spaying/neutering, micro-chipping and de-worming. You may complete an application to start the adoption process at www.stanlycountyhumanesociety.org, under the 'Adoption' tab. Like us on facebook at Stanly County Humane Society Cats. 2. Shy

Young (6 months) · Male · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat)

SHY and his siblings showed up at a local home back in June with their mama. While the residents knew they couldn’t keep them, they also couldn’t turn their backs. They fed and cared for them until the SCHS could finally take them in. Shy was nervous upon intake, but has really progressed. He enjoys the catio, and visiting with and getting affection from volunteers. He does great with other cats and is sure to be a good lap warmer.

5. Menschie

Adult · Male · Manx / Bobtail / Mixed (short coat)

Menschie is the Yiddish word for "good boy", and this Menschie is definitely a good boy. Menschie is a Manx/bobtail mix tuxedo boy. He was found as a stray.
While he can occasionally be startled, for the most part he's very laid back and easy going. He loves people and I've seen someone he's just met be able to pick him up and cuddle him. We hope to learn soon if he's good with other cats.
He is up to date on vaccinations, has been wormed, treated for fleas, neutered, and microchipped. He tested negative for FIV, Felv, and heartworms.
His adoption fee is $95

14. Spunky & Hurricane

Kitten · Male · Domestic Short Hair / Tabby (short coat)

Courtesy Post

Read more about Spunky & Hurricane

Spunky (mom) and her son Hurricane came into care in mid-July, 2026. Spunky had shown up on her foster parents porch as a starving kitten in May, 2026. She was so small, no one imagined that she had kittens until she was spayed 5/29/26. She was released to her home territory following her surgery and continued to come for meals at the foster yard until a rain storm in July drove the little family to a neighbor’s porch. Spunky and her three kittens were captured and moved inside. Despite living outside for a long period, Spunky was never feral. The foster parents have been able to assemble a team of volunteers to help handle the kittens so they are also social.

Hurricane is a brown tabby male who looks just like his mother. He has always been very attached to her. This attachment was evident even when he had two siblings with which to play. The siblings have gone on to successful adoptions in the past few weeks. It is our opinion that Spunky and Hurricane should remain together.

Spunky and Hurricane live with 4 other cats and get along well with everyone. Their favorite place to be is on a cat tree looking out on the woods where they used to live but they have not tried to leave the house at all. They play with each other and with a very active 3 year old cat in the foster home. Favorite toys include a laser pen, springs, and small catnip mice. It’s been really fun to see Spunky enjoy toys that she probably never experienced before.

Neither Spunky nor Hurricane are particularly cuddly but they like to be in the same space with their foster parents. If she weren’t named Spunky early in her rescue, she would be named Perfection. She truly is the perfect cat! She is quiet, keeps a regular schedule, uses the litter box perfectly and took wonderful care of her kittens. Hurricane is a wonderfully playful youngster who enjoys toys, the scratching posts, climbing furniture and sleeping on any item of clothing that is left on the bed. Both are addicted to catnip and will roll around with any item that contains it.

If you are looking for a pair of young cats with whom to share your space, these two are a great choice. They are calm, attached to humans that they know, and really easy to care for. They eat and spend the night in the bathroom they have always used. They spend their days in the house with the other cats playing chase and napping. Although they have not been exposed to children or dogs, they are calm enough that these should not be a problem.

Both Spunky and Hurricane are fully vaccinated, spay/neutered, microchipped and ready for adoption.

They are located in Greensboro NC.

19. Oscar

Young (1 year) · Male · Domestic Medium Hair / Mixed (medium coat)

Oscar was found trapped in a garbage bend. He had been there for awhile because you see all his bones. Since being in rescue he has gained his weight back and made himself right at home. He loves sleeping on my bed and being rubbed. I don’t think his former home ever played with him because he was confused by cat toys. He is gorgeous medium hair blue cat with the most mesmerizing yellow eyes. He is tall and sleek…could have been a super model. Although he is ok with my other cats I think he would prefer to be the only one. He gets a little bossy with my older cats but really liked the foster kitten Presley. He has been completely vetted and combo tested negative. He is believed to be around 1-2 yrs old.

21. Willow

Adult · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat)

Willow is one of Mary Ashburn's friendliest "Spirit" kitties. She is about 5-8 years old and needs a soft place to land since Mary passed away last month. Please consider giving Willow safe and secure senior years. Mary had a heart for the animals that others overlooked or gave up on. Every animal that came into LPAH’s care was loved deeply by her. At Lending Paws a Hand, Inc. ’s shelter facility, Mary had spirit cats. Spirit Cats are not for everyone, but they are very special cats for some. They are very shy with people. They live in your home, but are rarely seen – especially by visitors. They are cats who live with you, and who may bond deeply with you or only just grant you the opportunity to touch them…or not. We are now faced with the hard decision on where to relocate Mary’s spirit cats The cats all get along with other cats, are older, and some will come up for a pet now and again. They have all lived indoors, therefore, we would not recommend a “barn cat” scenario for them unless you’re willing to still feed them everyday and not expect them to hunt. 30. Rudy

Young (5 months 1 day) · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

Rudy is a spunky cutie pie. The lightning bolts of white across her face and side suit her zingy personality. Though she is likely the runt of her litter and started off more scrappy and reserved, she has blossomed into an energetic, robust girl. She is bound to make you giggle, loves hiding and then popping out during playtime, and likes pets and rubs. She would do well with someone who appreciates the small, quirky, and powerful and

will make her life loving and fun. Rudy needs to be adopted with her other siblings, Isla, Chickadee, Misty or Sterling or live in a home with another young cat.

Adopting a cat in Randolph County

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
