Hi, I’m Lui Pierre, and I’m ready to be your new best friend. My world changed when my owner passed away and I came to Sheltering Hands, but through it all I’ve held onto my sweet, people-loving personality.
I’m a handsome tuxedo gentleman with especially long white whiskers that seem to have a personality of their own. One thing you should know about me is that I’m definitely a meet-and-greet kind of guy. I’m not the shy type. When someone new walks by, I’m ready to say hello and make a great first impression.

Dolly - a rare breed of Swamp dog - was another rescue plea. We got the, “do you guys take cats?” And before I could even reply and say no her story and picture came through and we were done for. Dollys’ owner had passed away, she was covered head to toe in mats, and the shelter discovered she was also diabetic. She needed out and we said sign us up.

8. Forte
Senior (10 years 1 month) · Male · Domestic Long Hair / Mixed (long coat) · 84 mi from Jacksonville

Hello, I'm Forte.
For the first 10 years of my life, I had a home and a person who loved me. When my owner became very sick, there was no plan for what would happen to me, and suddenly I found myself at a shelter. As you can imagine, that was a big change for a guy like me, and sometimes I still feel a little overwhelmed by it all.

The best way to win me over is with patience and kindness. If you take your time when you approach me, you'll see what a loving fellow I really am. I lean right into every pet, and I absolutely enjoy being brushed. Gentle attention makes me feel safe, and before long, I'll be soaking up all the affection you have to offer.
You may notice that one of my eyes is smaller than the other. I have a condition called microphthalmia, which simply means one eye didn't develop to a normal size. The good news is that it doesn't cause me any medical problems, and I can probably even see out of it just fine. It's just one of the things that makes me uniquely me.
What I'm really hoping for is a soft landing with someone who understands that big life changes can be hard. In return, I'll be a devoted companion who appreciates every gentle touch, every brushing session, and every moment we spend together.
Estimated Birthday: 9/1/16

Caring for a long-haired cat
Long coats need regular grooming: brushing a few times a week, and every day when they shed in spring, stops knots and mats from forming and cuts down on hairballs.
Get them used to it gently, with short sessions and a treat afterward. A wide-toothed comb and a soft slicker brush handle most coats.
