16. Kanga

Senior · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat)

Meow meet Kanga! Kanga is the kind of cat who may quietly break your heart - in the very best way. This beautiful 9 year old brown tabby girl was found as a stray alongside a kitten named Roo. Once she was safe, we learned that Kanga is FIV positive and has mild cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), which gives her a little wobble. But those things don’t define Kanga. They are simply a few things she carries with her. What truly defines her is the incredibly sweet girl underneath it all. Kanga can be a bit shy at first and simply needs a little time to become comfortable. But once she does, the transformation is beautiful.

Read more about Kanga

She becomes your shadow, quietly following her personal and soaking up every bit of affection she can get. She loves head and neck scratches, has the softest, cutest little meow, and even though she prefers to keep her feet on the ground, she will happily crawl into your lap when she wants to be close. She would thrive in a quiet home without children where she can take her time settling in. She could be a wonderful companion for a senior or anyone who understands that sometimes the deepest bonds aren’t instant - they are built a little slower, one gentle moment at a time. Kanga has spent enough of her life wondering where she belongs. What she needs now isn’t someone looking for a perfect cat; she needs someone who sees the perfectly wonderful cat standing right in front of them. Give Kanga a little time, a quiet place, and a lap to call her own, and she just might give you the sweetest kind of friendship - the kind that quietly becomes a part of your heart before you even realize it!
With regular vet care and a safe indoor life, FIV+ cats like Kanga can live, long happy lives--just like any other kitty! Here is an

23. Lucy

Kitten (4 months 12 days) · Female · Domestic Short Hair

Meet Lucy
Meet Lucy! The tiniest little package of personality you’ll ever meet!
This half-pint-sized buff beauty is truly one of a kind. Born in May 2026, Lucy was discovered completely by accident while a trapper was working to catch a different litter of kittens. The trapper had no idea Lucy was there… until she started screaming. And screaming. And screaming some more.
In fact, she was so determined to make herself heard that the trapper nearly stepped on her while trying to figure out where all that noise was coming from!
Thankfully, Lucy holds absolutely no grudges. This girl is far too busy being fabulous.

Read more about Lucy

♀️
Lucy has a BIG personality packed into her teeny-tiny body. She’s outgoing, confident, knows exactly what she wants, and is wonderfully respectful of the other kitties in her foster home. But what she wants most of all? PEOPLE. Lucy absolutely LOVES her humans and will happily snuggle, cuddle, and soak up affection whenever she gets the chance.
And when she’s not busy being your personal cuddle bug, Lucy is a bona fide kitten tornado! She adores springs, balls, wand toys, and especially her beloved butterfly spinning toy. She romps around with her foster kitty friends, plays to her heart’s content, and then crashes for a champion-quality kitten nap.
She’s independent enough to entertain herself, but always ready to join in when playtime or cuddle time comes calling.
Lucy is also exceptionally petite. We believe her mama was just a kitten herself when Lucy was born, which may explain why this little girl is literally about half the size of an average kitten her age. But don’t let her tiny stature fool you—Lucy is healthy, happy, and thriving! Our veterinarian has checked her over and given her a clean bill of health.
Lucy currently lives with lots of cats and kittens and gets along beautifully with all of them. She also lives with three dogs. She’s a little nervous around the dogs, so we think her ideal home would either include a friendly kitty companion or have another cat-friendly feline friend for her. If there are dogs in her forever home, they should be very calm, gentle, and uninterested in chasing or bothering cats.
And honestly… who could blame this tiny girl for wanting to feel safe?

28. Costello bonded with Abbott

Adult (2 years 3 months) · Male · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat)

Meow meet Costello! Costello is a handsome brown and white tabby boy with a gentle heart and a story that reminds us just how deeply cats can love their families. Costello and his brother, Abbott, were adopted as young kittens and spent their lives in a wonderful home with a couple who adored them. When their dad suddenly passed away the boys and their mom faced that heartbreaking loss together. They had one another and continued on as a family, finding comfort in each other. Sadly their mom recently passed away too, leaving these two to face the world alone. It would be understandable if Costello was withdrawn but he is a sweet, gentle boy who still wants to be near people.

His brother is a familiar face in a world that has changed completely and they deserve to continue together side by side. Costello has lost the home and family he knew, but still is filled with so much love to give. He and Abbott have already carried each other through some of life’s hardest moments. Now they just need someone willing to open their heart to both of them and give these two brothers the peaceful, loving home where they finally feel safe again!

29. Abbott bonded with Costello

Adult (2 years 3 months) · Male · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat)

Meow meet Abbott! He is a handsome two year old boy whose story is filled with love, loss, and a whole lot of heart! Abbott and his brother, Costello, were adopted as young kittens and were loved beyond measure. They had a wonderful home and a couple who adored them. When their dad suddenly passed away, the boys and their mom had to navigate a heartbreaking loss together. They comforted one another and continued on as a family. Sadly, their mom recently passed away too, and now Abbott and Costello have found themselves at the rescue, trying to understand how their whole world changed so quickly.

Read more about Abbott bonded with Costello

It would be understandable if Abbott had become withdrawn, instead, his sweet, loving, gentle personality is still very much there. Abbott loves being loved! He enjoys being held, petted, and is extremely playful. Through all of the changes in their lives, Abbott and Costello have remained a source of comfort for one another. They may be content to spend some time apart, but their bond is clear, and we feel they would benefit from continuing their journey together. Abbott has already lost so much, but he hasn’t lost his ability to love. We hope his next chapter with his brother Costello - is a chapter filled with gentle hands, cozy naps, playful moments, and a family who will cherish these two boys for all the years ahead. Abbott deserves to feel safe and loved again, with his brother by his side.

30. Grace

Kitten (4 months 7 days) · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (medium coat)

Meow meet Grace! She is an adorable little black kitten with a heart bigger than her tiny body. She and her sister Faith were found near a church when they were still so young they needed bottle fed. From those early days, the two girls have grown into sweet, loving, incredibly social kittens who are happiest together. They are a bonded pair and must be adopted together. Grace may be tiny, but don’t let that fool you - this little girl can eat! She will happily play with just about anything she can find! Apparently Grace believes the entire world is one giant toy box. She is sweet, affectionate and loves being around people. Two tiny sisters, one special bond, and a whole lot of love waiting for the family lucky enough to call them theirs!

Adopting a cat in Franklin County

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
