1. Kitty

Adult (2 years 1 month) · Female · Domestic Medium Hair (medium coat) · 16 mi from Oakland

Hello lovely humans! My name is Kitty and I am a 2 year old, small-sized, black, spayed female, domestic medium-hair cat. I'm a gentle and shy sweetheart who is looking for her forever home, one that can provide time and patience as I can start out quite timid. New faces and environments can scare me so I just need some time to collect myself as I adjust to my surroundings. Don't expect me to open up on the first day, but if you're patient enough, I'll slowly start to grow more comfortable and my true colors will shine through! I love gentle pets and strokes along my gorgeous fur and being close to people I've warmed up to. My favorite spot? Why, your lap of course! I'm not really into playing with toys so my ideal home would be one that loves to cuddle and doesn't mind slow beginnings as I warm up to you. I'd do best in a quieter household and if kids are present, teens and above only please. :) I'm looking forward to meeting you!

2. Momo

Kitten (4 months 8 days) · Male · Tabby / Mixed (short coat) · 3 mi from Oakland

Momo is an adorable, affectionate, brown tabby kitten. This boy LOVES to be petted and loves to cuddle. He is very talkative with his cute little raspy voice and is extremely food motivated. Momo is very proud of his gorgeous spotted belly! He shows it off all the time and loves to have it rubbed and even kissed.

You would never suspect that this little guy had such a rough start. Momo was found in a parking lot with a severely fractured front leg. He has had a remarkable recovery and is now a normal playful kitten. But he may have a little limp and needs to be monitored as he becomes fully grown.

Read more about Momo

Momo loves to play with other cats and needs another young kitty to play and cuddle with. He is fostered with Cupcake. They would be a nice pair. He would be OK with cat savvy kids over the age of 8 and would likely accept a calm dog with a careful introduction.

We estimate he was born June 14, 2026. Kitty Bio #581LRo-Mo. ▶️ Scroll down for clip

Louie – Head Scratches Are My Love Language Hi! I'm Louie, and if you've got a free hand for head scratches, we're already going to be great friends. They're one of my favorite things, and I'll happily lean right into them while soaking up all the attention. I'm a sweet, affectionate kitten who settles into new places pretty quickly. Once I know I'm safe, my playful and curious side shines through. I love exploring, chasing toy mice, pouncing on catnip toys, and seeing what exciting things the day has in store. When playtime is over, I'm more than happy to be picked up, cuddled, and spend time with my favorite people.

I'm also a big fan of treats, canned food, and Churu—bring out a tube, and you'll have my full attention! Jax and I are foster buddies, and we've had a great time growing up together. 13. Sadie

Adult (6 years 9 months) · Female · Domestic Medium Hair / Mixed (medium coat) · 3 mi from Oakland

Beautiful and petite Sadie is a kitten at heart when it comes to her favorite toys in the world -- pom pom balls! She delightfully bats and tosses them in the air without a care in the world. Let's just say that she is one very happy cat when I dig out the multiple pom pom balls that get stuck under furniture (a daily routine). Sadie's sweet personality shows when she greets you for pets by lowering her chin and offering you the top of her head for a gentle pat. She is a curious girl following me around, always interested in what's going on. Sadie warms up slowly to new people but once she bonds, she will be your devoted companion. She gets along with another cat but she would also be fine as an only pet. Dogs and children are untested but would likely do best in a home that is quiet and calm. We estimate that Sadie was born around January 2020. Kitty Bio 3876MB-Sa.

I also have a playful streak and love chasing after toys of all kinds! I'm happy doing either as long as I'm with you. I would do best in a home who has some experience with shy cats, so I can take my time to feel safe and comfortable with you. I'm also not the biggest fan of other cats, so I would ideally like to be a solo guy! But that just means I get to have all the attention to myself and lots of time for us to bond. Hello friends, I am Meeko! I am a handsome, two year old, neutered gray tabby domestic short hair who is medium in size and is lookin for his forever home! I'm a sweet boy who can sometimes start off a bit timid as I like to take in all the sights and sounds around me before I can feel comfortable. Once I've settled, you'll see my affectionate and loving side come out as I rub against you for cheek and chin scratches on my adorable, cherub face. You might even find me crawling into your lap for some extra close bonding time. While I love seeking attention, I can also sometimes get a little overstimulated so I'm looking for a family who will understands when I need my space and me-time. Other days, I have a playful side that is itching to come out! I love playing with wand toys and pipe cleaners; it's a great way for me to get my energy out! I enjoy people, but am not always fond of other feline friends so I am looking for a forever home where I can be the only cat. Loud noises can also be a bit much for me so I would also do best in a household with teens and older if children are present. If you think we might be a good match, then come on down to the shelter so we can test out the waters and you can hopefully take me home with you! <3

Adult (7 years) · Male · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) · 2 mi from Oakland

Leo was rescued from a park in August 2026. He was a young cat with a broken femur, probably from being hit by a car. Leo was a stray/unowned cat according to the neighbors. When we accepted him into our program he had a long road ahead of him. He was facing pain, uncertainty, and a future that no little cat should have to face alone.

But Leo was a fighter! With the help of his amazing veterinary team, he underwent surgery to repair his broken leg. It took time, care, and plenty of love, but this brave boy never gave up.

And now, look at him! Leo has healed, his difficult days are behind him, and he is finally ready for the next chapter of his life. No more struggling with an injury. No more uncertainty about what tomorrow will bring. Just the promise of a safe home, a soft bed, full food bowls, and someone who will love him forever.

Leo’s story is a beautiful reminder that sometimes, all it takes is a helping hand and a chance to change a life. Now, this sweet young boy needs one more miracle: a family of his very own.

Could you be the person who gives Leo the happily-ever-after he deserves? Someone to cherish him, spoil him, and make sure he never has to face the world alone again?

Leo was born in approximately October 2019. He has been fixed and is up to date on his shots. Leo would do great with children over 5 years. He has no experience with dogs as far as we know.

I can be a little shy when meeting new people, so I appreciate a gentle approach and a little patience while I get to know you. Once I feel comfortable, my sweet, affectionate personality comes shining through. I absolutely adore pets and attention, and I have so much love to give! I'm a sensitive girl, so unfamiliar sounds and sudden movements can send me looking for a good hiding spot.

And trust me, I'm a professional hider! But with a little patience, some tasty treats, and gentle encouragement, I'll come out to say hello. Once I know I'm safe, my affectionate side really shines. I'm not a particularly high-energy kitty. I'd much rather curl up on your lap or settle into a cozy spot nearby and enjoy your company. I love rubbing my face against you, weaving around your legs, and soaking up all the pets I can get. When I'm feeling especially comfortable, I might even rub my face against yours and give you a few sweet kisses! I'll come when you call my name or pat your lap, too. Did I mention I'm a purring machine? I purr constantly when I'm happy, and I make the sweetest little trills and chirps to let you know how I'm feeling. My dream home would be a calm, quiet place where I can be your one and only kitty. I'd love a patient, understanding person who will give me the time I need to settle in. I also have some skin sensitivities, so I'm on a special novel protein diet that helps keep me comfortable and healthy. Concerned about me being FIV+? Don't be—there's lots of helpful information out there to put your mind at ease. I can live a long, healthy life, meow. If you'd like to learn more, here's a great resource from the Cornell University FIV Guide. I may take a little extra time to trust you, but once I do, you'll have a devoted, affectionate companion who will fill your days with purrs, chirps, and plenty of love. How to adopt from Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA

When a potential adopter comes into the shelter and sees an animal he or she is interested in adopting, we ask the potential adopter to first complete an Adoption Profile. Then, one of our knowledgeable customer service representatives brings the adopter and animal together in one of our Get Acquainted Rooms. There they have a quiet, private space to get to know each other better. During the visit, the customer service representative may discuss the following: past experiences with animals and current animals in the home lifestyle, including work schedule and the kinds of activities they plan to do with their companion animal housing situation - own or rent, size of yard, etc. In order to make the best match possible for a family and home, we suggest potential adopters bring along all members of the household to meet the new companion animal and bring their current dog(s) to meet a potential dog. Adopters must also be 18 or older.

Adopting a cat in Oakland

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
