15. Miranda Priestly

Adult · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 6 mi from Broadmoor

Meet Miranda Priestley.Miranda has been in the system for several months now, and honestly, she does not show well at foster events. She is shy, she hides, and if you meet her there you will probably wonder what the appeal is. This bio is here to tell you what the appeal is.She is actually a returning foster of mine. I had originally been fostering her alongside another cat, but I had to go out of town for an extended trip, so I gave both cats back into care while I was away. When I came back, the other cat had been adopted, but Miranda had not, so I decided to pick her back up since I knew a familiar place would help her settle faster.

Read more about Miranda Priestly

It did. This time around it took her less than a week to start coming out of her shell, much faster than the first time.In the beginning she was hiding constantly, the kind of cat you would swear had vanished into thin air. She has not vanished, she is just very good at finding spots you did not know existed. Give her time and a whole personality shows up. Playful, sassy, affectionate, and honestly just gorgeous. She has a statuesque neck, deep golden amber eyes, and a coat so soft it is borderline chinchilla, I would not be surprised if there is some mink in there. She gets along well with other cats, plays and eats alongside them without any issues. Dogs are not really her thing. She eats well and uses her litter box like a pro, no matter how many times I move it or change the litter. That part has never been an issue, even on days I barely see her.For a while she was still wary of me outside the bedroom, but that is already changing. She used to disappear during the day and only come alive at bedtime, now she is starting to come out and approach me outside the bedroom too. At night she is fully affectionate, right now she is purring on my chest as I write this. She rolls over for belly rubs, curls up in your lap, and gives you this look like she is judging you, but really she has just decided you are worthy of her time. She also loves cat TV, she gets completely mesmerized watching the birds and chipmunks and will go after the screen when something catches her eye. It is the most playful and active I see her, and I am putting together a video of her doing it.Miranda just needs someone patient enough to let her come out on her own time. She is proof that the investment pays off. Give her that chance and you get a genuinely sweet, affectionate, gorgeous girl who is worth the wait. All cats/kittens will be spayed/neutered unless spay/neuter contract is signed with additional deposit. For more photos and videos please see our website www.hdbnqrescue.org/queens youtube page: https://www.youtube.com/@HDBnQRescue

16. Mary.

Young · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Calico / Mixed (short coat) · 6 mi from Broadmoor

About MaryMary is absolute sweetness and cuddliness wrapped up in a tiny, beautiful calico package! If you are looking for a feline companion who truly interactive and loving, Mary is your girl. She absolutely loves to be talked to and told how amazing she is-and she will happily reply with the most endearing chirrups and loud, appreciative purrs! Mary loves cuddling enjoys laying in bed with her foster parents. She is an incredibly sweet cat who has no vices. One of her cute habits is walking around with a toy in her mouth and calling to you- she wants her humans to tell her how proud they are of her hunting skills.

Read more about Mary.

Mary gets along well with her foster parents' three older cats. She is incredibly friendly, loves people, and wants nothing more than to lean into you, rub up against your legs, and receive endless head scratches. Her JourneyMary has been an absolutely amazing, dedicated mama to her babies (the "Project Hail Mary" litter!). While she has done a wonderful job raising her little ones, this young girl is officially ready to retire from motherhood. She is looking forward to being the center of attention and finding a forever family of her very own where she can be thoroughly spoiled.Core Qualities:The Ultimate Sweetheart: Thrives on human affection, head rubs, and cozy cuddle sessions.Vocal & Charming: Will converse with you using sweet chirps and purrs.Mary is ready to bring a lifetime of love and gentle companionship to her lucky permanent home. Could it be yours?Update from Foster #2A quick note on her name: I was told she was "June" when I picked her up, so that's what I've called her this whole time, and she answers to it like she's always known it. Apologies for the mix-up! If you want her to come running, call June and she'll show up.She is a smart, outgoing girl. She was chatty for her first 2 to 3 days in a new home, then settled in and has been quiet ever since. She's curious and fearless, a true explorer who finds nooks the other cats never go to. She loves watching out the window, throwing toys around, and entertaining herself, but she's happiest cuddled up with you. She'll nap in your lap while you work and be snuggled against you when you wake up, sometimes with her face right in yours. She gives headbutts that say "pet me now," and she lets you rub her belly. She is very playful, and gentle about it. She gets a little excited, but she's honestly the safest cat I've played with in a long time. She gets along well with my cat Miranda. She keeps inviting Miranda to play even though Miranda isn't interested, and she still ends up snuggled next to her. She was all over my guests the moment they walked in, so she is not shy at all. She is super easy with the litter box and her food, and I have zero complaints. She'd be a great match for someone who wants an affectionate, curious, low-maintenance companion. 17. Polly

Senior · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Snowshoe / Mixed · 6 mi from Broadmoor

Princess Polly – A Little Fighter with a Whole Lot of Love to Give Hi, I'm Princess Polly! I've had quite the journey, and there was a time when I almost didn't get the chance to tell my story. But thanks to some pretty amazing people who refused to give up on me, I'm here today! My story began when some wonderful people found me lying outside their front door, barely able to move. They brought me inside and tried to help, but I was very sick. They took me to San Francisco Animal Care & Control (SFACC), where I was rushed to the emergency hospital. It turned out I had diabetes and was suffering from a life-threatening condition called diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).

Read more about Polly

Thankfully, the doctors stabilized me and started me on insulin. I had a microchip, but sadly, no one came to claim me. And that's when things got really scary. The kind people who found me never forgot about me. They checked with SFACC every single day to see how I was doing. Then came the news no one wanted to hear. If a rescue didn't commit to taking me by the end of the day, I would be euthanized. My finder wasn't about to let that happen without a fight. She reached out to Give Me Shelter Cat Rescue, begging them to help me. They immediately contacted SFACC and asked to review my medical records, which bought me a few precious days. At first, there were concerns that I might need hospice care. But my finder even had her own veterinarian review my records, and the vet believed I had a chance to recover. I was also showing signs of improvement during my time at SFACC. How could anyone give up on me when I was trying so hard to get better? Give Me Shelter decided to give me that chance, and that's how I became Princess Polly! And guess what? Just one week after arriving in foster care, I went to the vet, and my lab values were all within normal range! My blood sugar was still too high, but otherwise, I was doing remarkably well. I wasn't a hospice kitty after all. I was alive, getting stronger, and thriving! I'm one lucky girl to have had so many people advocating for me. Without them, I wouldn't be here today. Now, let me tell you about the real me! I'm a confident, affectionate girl who absolutely loves being loved. Petting is one of my favorite things, and I even have a signature move. When you stop petting me before I'm ready, I'll gently reach out with my paw, grab your hand, and pull it back toward me. That's my way of saying, "Excuse me, I wasn't finished!" It's pretty irresistible, if I do say so myself. I love being part of whatever you're doing, whether that's relaxing on the couch, working at your desk, or just hanging out together. I'm a wonderful companion who enjoys attention, affection, and being close to my people. Now, about my diabetes. I know it might sound intimidating, but I promise I'm a really good patient! I get insulin twice a day, and I'm so easygoing about my injections. I've even worked out a pretty sweet deal with my foster mom. Every time I get my insulin, I get a Churu treat! I know the routine, and I think it's a pretty fair trade. I'm also a champ when it comes to having my blood sugar checked. My foster mom uses a little glucose meter to make sure I'm doing well, and I cooperate like the good girl I am. I do have some funny eating habits. I'm more of a grazer than a finish-my-dinner-in-one-sitting kind of girl. My foster mom is working with me on that because a healthy diet is especially important for my diabetes. I love my treats, especially Churu, dehydrated chicken, and the occasional little bit of crunchy kibble! As for my forever home, I'd be perfectly happy being your one and only princess, but I could also share my kingdom with a mellow kitty friend. I've been through a lot, but none of it has changed my loving personality. I'm a happy, affectionate girl with so much love to give. I just need someone who understands that my diabetes is part of my life and is willing to help me stay healthy. So many people fought to give me a

And trust me, I'm a professional hider! But with a little patience, some tasty treats, and gentle encouragement, I'll come out to say hello. Once I know I'm safe, my affectionate side really shines. I'm not a particularly high-energy kitty. I'd much rather curl up on your lap or settle into a cozy spot nearby and enjoy your company. I love rubbing my face against you, weaving around your legs, and soaking up all the pets I can get. When I'm feeling especially comfortable, I might even rub my face against yours and give you a few sweet kisses! I'll come when you call my name or pat your lap, too. Did I mention I'm a purring machine? I purr constantly when I'm happy, and I make the sweetest little trills and chirps to let you know how I'm feeling. My dream home would be a calm, quiet place where I can be your one and only kitty. I'd love a patient, understanding person who will give me the time I need to settle in. I also have some skin sensitivities, so I'm on a special novel protein diet that helps keep me comfortable and healthy. Concerned about me being FIV+? Don't be—there's lots of helpful information out there to put your mind at ease. I can live a long, healthy life, meow. If you'd like to learn more, here's a great resource from the Cornell University FIV Guide. I may take a little extra time to trust you, but once I do, you'll have a devoted, affectionate companion who will fill your days with purrs, chirps, and plenty of love. We will arrange a time to visit your home and the foster parents and a volunteer will meet there. Our adoption fee structure is: Cats and kittens (under 8 years): $100 Cats (over 8 years): $75 Two cats adopted together: Full amount of the higher fee, half the amount of the lower or same fee. For example: a kitten and a cat (under 8) would be $100.00 + 50.00 = $150.00 We require that all cats be kept indoor only. We have an adoption contract.

When a potential adopter comes into the shelter and sees an animal he or she is interested in adopting, we ask the potential adopter to first complete an Adoption Profile. Then, one of our knowledgeable customer service representatives brings the adopter and animal together in one of our Get Acquainted Rooms. There they have a quiet, private space to get to know each other better. During the visit, the customer service representative may discuss the following: past experiences with animals and current animals in the home lifestyle, including work schedule and the kinds of activities they plan to do with their companion animal housing situation - own or rent, size of yard, etc. In order to make the best match possible for a family and home, we suggest potential adopters bring along all members of the household to meet the new companion animal and bring their current dog(s) to meet a potential dog. Adopters must also be 18 or older.

Adopting a cat in Broadmoor

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
