2. Polly
Senior · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Snowshoe / Mixed · 23 mi from Novato

Princess Polly – A Little Fighter with a Whole Lot of Love to Give Hi, I'm Princess Polly! I've had quite the journey, and there was a time when I almost didn't get the chance to tell my story. But thanks to some pretty amazing people who refused to give up on me, I'm here today! My story began when some wonderful people found me lying outside their front door, barely able to move. They brought me inside and tried to help, but I was very sick. They took me to San Francisco Animal Care & Control (SFACC), where I was rushed to the emergency hospital. It turned out I had diabetes and was suffering from a life-threatening condition called diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).
Read more about Polly
Thankfully, the doctors stabilized me and started me on insulin. I had a microchip, but sadly, no one came to claim me. And that's when things got really scary. The kind people who found me never forgot about me. They checked with SFACC every single day to see how I was doing. Then came the news no one wanted to hear. If a rescue didn't commit to taking me by the end of the day, I would be euthanized. My finder wasn't about to let that happen without a fight. She reached out to Give Me Shelter Cat Rescue, begging them to help me. They immediately contacted SFACC and asked to review my medical records, which bought me a few precious days. At first, there were concerns that I might need hospice care. But my finder even had her own veterinarian review my records, and the vet believed I had a chance to recover. I was also showing signs of improvement during my time at SFACC. How could anyone give up on me when I was trying so hard to get better? Give Me Shelter decided to give me that chance, and that's how I became Princess Polly! And guess what? Just one week after arriving in foster care, I went to the vet, and my lab values were all within normal range! My blood sugar was still too high, but otherwise, I was doing remarkably well. I wasn't a hospice kitty after all. I was alive, getting stronger, and thriving! I'm one lucky girl to have had so many people advocating for me. Without them, I wouldn't be here today. Now, let me tell you about the real me! I'm a confident, affectionate girl who absolutely loves being loved. Petting is one of my favorite things, and I even have a signature move. When you stop petting me before I'm ready, I'll gently reach out with my paw, grab your hand, and pull it back toward me. That's my way of saying, "Excuse me, I wasn't finished!" It's pretty irresistible, if I do say so myself. I love being part of whatever you're doing, whether that's relaxing on the couch, working at your desk, or just hanging out together. I'm a wonderful companion who enjoys attention, affection, and being close to my people. Now, about my diabetes. I know it might sound intimidating, but I promise I'm a really good patient! I get insulin twice a day, and I'm so easygoing about my injections. I've even worked out a pretty sweet deal with my foster mom. Every time I get my insulin, I get a Churu treat! I know the routine, and I think it's a pretty fair trade. I'm also a champ when it comes to having my blood sugar checked. My foster mom uses a little glucose meter to make sure I'm doing well, and I cooperate like the good girl I am. I do have some funny eating habits. I'm more of a grazer than a finish-my-dinner-in-one-sitting kind of girl. My foster mom is working with me on that because a healthy diet is especially important for my diabetes. I love my treats, especially Churu, dehydrated chicken, and the occasional little bit of crunchy kibble! As for my forever home, I'd be perfectly happy being your one and only princess, but I could also share my kingdom with a mellow kitty friend. I've been through a lot, but none of it has changed my loving personality. I'm a happy, affectionate girl with so much love to give. I just need someone who understands that my diabetes is part of my life and is willing to help me stay healthy. So many people fought to give me a

I'm a sensitive girl, so unfamiliar sounds and sudden movements can send me looking for a good hiding spot.

And trust me, I'm a professional hider! But with a little patience, some tasty treats, and gentle encouragement, I'll come out to say hello. Once I know I'm safe, my affectionate side really shines. I'm not a particularly high-energy kitty. I'd much rather curl up on your lap or settle into a cozy spot nearby and enjoy your company. I love rubbing my face against you, weaving around your legs, and soaking up all the pets I can get. When I'm feeling especially comfortable, I might even rub my face against yours and give you a few sweet kisses! I'll come when you call my name or pat your lap, too. Did I mention I'm a purring machine? I purr constantly when I'm happy, and I make the sweetest little trills and chirps to let you know how I'm feeling. My dream home would be a calm, quiet place where I can be your one and only kitty. I'd love a patient, understanding person who will give me the time I need to settle in. I also have some skin sensitivities, so I'm on a special novel protein diet that helps keep me comfortable and healthy. Concerned about me being FIV+? Don't be—there's lots of helpful information out there to put your mind at ease. I can live a long, healthy life, meow. If you'd like to learn more, here's a great resource from the Cornell University FIV Guide. I may take a little extra time to trust you, but once I do, you'll have a devoted, affectionate companion who will fill your days with purrs, chirps, and plenty of love. 22. Seven
Young (2 months 6 days) · Female · Extra-Toes Cat (Hemingway Polydactyl) / Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) · 34 mi from Novato

Hi, we’re Seven (calico) and Six (brown tabby) — great names, right?! We are bonded sisters, and we are both polydactyl kitties, which means we have extra toes! Our foster mom describes us as spunky, sweet and clever; and she adds that we love to eat!
We are being fostered with dogs, a cat and small children, and we are all getting along well. We sleep quietly through the night and are very good about using our litter box.
We were born approximately August 13, 2026. We are a bonded pair and need to be adopted together. We are good with other cats and gentle children. We can placed as “foster-to-adopt” kittens until we have been fixed.

24. Yogi
Young · Male · Domestic Medium Hair / Mixed (medium coat) · 48 mi from Novato

When Yogi isn’t zooming around the house playing with his brother, he wants nothing more than to curl up on your chest and snuggle into your neck. He instantly loves everyone he meets. This boy craves constant human affection and will do anything to be involved in everything. That includes climbing people like trees! Because of this we have put nail caps on him. He knows now that he can’t climb people but he still likes to paw at our legs for attention. It’s very cute. He’s also very easy to put nail caps on, he just loves the attention. He should eventually grow out of the climbing though and no longer need the nail caps.

Because of his clinginess he would love a home where his person is either retired or works at home. However, if he were adopted with his brother Boo Boo, he would likely be ok with being alone during the day. He’s great around other cats and would likely do very well with children and dogs. He’s confident and curious and has very little fear of anything. Whoever adopts this precious little guy is incredibly lucky!

25. Boo Boo
Young · Male · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) · 48 mi from Novato

Boo Boo is a quiet little guy but don’t let that fool you. He’s extremely friendly, curious, and outgoing. He’s obsessed with wand toys and can hear one being played with from anywhere in the house. He’s also fascinated by the vacuum and very curious about the dishwasher. He’s the kind of cat that tries to climb into everything. He’s very silly. He likes to cuddle on the couch or in bed, and when you pick him up he melts right into your arms. He loves wrestling with his brother and chasing his foster cat sisters around the house. He would really love being adopted with his brother. At the very least he needs one or two other cat companions.
Read more about Boo Boo
Boo Boo has FHV (feline herpes virus) which is very common among cats and not something that will affect his long term health. Stress or illness, especially when cats are young, can cause flare ups that result in cold like symptoms. They usually resolve in a week or two but for some cats like Boo Boo they can last longer. Boo Boo’s only lingering symptom is a weepy eye, but we are hopeful that once he settles into his forever home it will eventually go away. For some cats it can take many months to dry up. But not to worry, Boo Boo is very good about having his eye cleaned. In fact, he doesn’t have any bad habits that we’ve seen, he’s really just a very sweet, playful, and well mannered boy. He gets along very well with other cats and would likely do well with dogs and children too. Though the stress of a more active household might make his weepy eye take longer to resolve.

Bringing a cat home to your dog
Tell the rescue about your dog: their size, age and energy. A cat who has lived with a calm dog may still be nervous around a bouncy puppy.
Introduce them slowly. Keep the cat in a room of their own for the first few days, swap bedding so they get used to each other's scent, and then let them meet with the dog on a leash.
Make sure the cat can always get somewhere the dog can't reach, and keep the litter box and food bowls out of the dog's way.
