1. Polly
Senior · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Snowshoe / Mixed · 15 mi from San Rafael

Princess Polly – A Little Fighter with a Whole Lot of Love to Give Hi, I'm Princess Polly! I've had quite the journey, and there was a time when I almost didn't get the chance to tell my story. But thanks to some pretty amazing people who refused to give up on me, I'm here today! My story began when some wonderful people found me lying outside their front door, barely able to move. They brought me inside and tried to help, but I was very sick. They took me to San Francisco Animal Care & Control (SFACC), where I was rushed to the emergency hospital. It turned out I had diabetes and was suffering from a life-threatening condition called diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).

Thankfully, the doctors stabilized me and started me on insulin. I had a microchip, but sadly, no one came to claim me. And that's when things got really scary. The kind people who found me never forgot about me. They checked with SFACC every single day to see how I was doing. Then came the news no one wanted to hear. If a rescue didn't commit to taking me by the end of the day, I would be euthanized. My finder wasn't about to let that happen without a fight. She reached out to Give Me Shelter Cat Rescue, begging them to help me. They immediately contacted SFACC and asked to review my medical records, which bought me a few precious days. At first, there were concerns that I might need hospice care. But my finder even had her own veterinarian review my records, and the vet believed I had a chance to recover. I was also showing signs of improvement during my time at SFACC. How could anyone give up on me when I was trying so hard to get better? Give Me Shelter decided to give me that chance, and that's how I became Princess Polly! And guess what? Just one week after arriving in foster care, I went to the vet, and my lab values were all within normal range! My blood sugar was still too high, but otherwise, I was doing remarkably well. I wasn't a hospice kitty after all. I was alive, getting stronger, and thriving! I'm one lucky girl to have had so many people advocating for me. Without them, I wouldn't be here today. Now, let me tell you about the real me! I'm a confident, affectionate girl who absolutely loves being loved. Petting is one of my favorite things, and I even have a signature move. When you stop petting me before I'm ready, I'll gently reach out with my paw, grab your hand, and pull it back toward me. That's my way of saying, "Excuse me, I wasn't finished!" It's pretty irresistible, if I do say so myself. I love being part of whatever you're doing, whether that's relaxing on the couch, working at your desk, or just hanging out together. I'm a wonderful companion who enjoys attention, affection, and being close to my people. Now, about my diabetes. I know it might sound intimidating, but I promise I'm a really good patient! I get insulin twice a day, and I'm so easygoing about my injections. I've even worked out a pretty sweet deal with my foster mom. Every time I get my insulin, I get a Churu treat! I know the routine, and I think it's a pretty fair trade. I'm also a champ when it comes to having my blood sugar checked. My foster mom uses a little glucose meter to make sure I'm doing well, and I cooperate like the good girl I am. I do have some funny eating habits. I'm more of a grazer than a finish-my-dinner-in-one-sitting kind of girl. My foster mom is working with me on that because a healthy diet is especially important for my diabetes. I love my treats, especially Churu, dehydrated chicken, and the occasional little bit of crunchy kibble! As for my forever home, I'd be perfectly happy being your one and only princess, but I could also share my kingdom with a mellow kitty friend. I've been through a lot, but none of it has changed my loving personality. I'm a happy, affectionate girl with so much love to give. I just need someone who understands that my diabetes is part of my life and is willing to help me stay healthy. So many people fought to give me a

2. Aloisius
Adult (2 years 1 month) · Male · Tabby / Mixed · 20 mi from San Rafael

CASTRO VALLEY, CA: ALOISIUS (CP) is just the sweetest boy!! He was a very handsome young tomcat (meaning an adult male cat unneutered, with a big round head), when he was found and rescued as he was walking in an area known for coyotes.
Aloisius is a very tame cat, so it is likely someone was feeding him and tamed him down, but he was not microchipped and his owner could not be located. Aloisius is now safe and cared for in a foster home.
Read more about Aloisius
Aloisius is adorable and a total sweetheart, and he deserves his own loving indoor-only home. It is likely he would get along with children 8 years or older who are gentle and can move more slowly until he adjusts to his new family and environment.
Aloisius would do great in a home with another kitty, but probably not with dogs.
Aloisius was born in approximately September 2024. He is healthy, has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and is ready for his forever home!
If you are looking for a great, gentle companion for yourself and maybe your cat, you cannot go wrong with this sweet, precious and very handsome boy!
This is a Courtesy Post, and Aloisius is with Angus & Friends Cat Rescue in Castro Valley, California. For more information, please text Deborah at 510-909-4961. Visit their website at https://angusandfriendscatrescue.com.
Please Note: This cat has not yet been tested for FIV/FeLV, to our knowledge. Potential adopters should confirm the cat’s status with their rescue group and should consult with their veterinarian for recommendations regarding testing.

3. Momo
Kitten (4 months 8 days) · Male · Tabby / Mixed (short coat) · 19 mi from San Rafael

Momo is an adorable, affectionate, brown tabby kitten. This boy LOVES to be petted and loves to cuddle. He is very talkative with his cute little raspy voice and is extremely food motivated. Momo is very proud of his gorgeous spotted belly! He shows it off all the time and loves to have it rubbed and even kissed.
You would never suspect that this little guy had such a rough start. Momo was found in a parking lot with a severely fractured front leg. He has had a remarkable recovery and is now a normal playful kitten. But he may have a little limp and needs to be monitored as he becomes fully grown.
Read more about Momo
Momo loves to play with other cats and needs another young kitty to play and cuddle with. He is fostered with Cupcake. They would be a nice pair. He would be OK with cat savvy kids over the age of 8 and would likely accept a calm dog with a careful introduction.
We estimate he was born June 14, 2026. Kitty Bio #581LRo-Mo. ▶️ Scroll down for clip

8. Sadie
Adult (6 years 9 months) · Female · Domestic Medium Hair / Mixed (medium coat) · 19 mi from San Rafael

Beautiful and petite Sadie is a kitten at heart when it comes to her favorite toys in the world – pom pom balls! She delightfully bats and tosses them in the air without a care in the world. Let's just say that she is one very happy cat when her foster digs out the multiple pom pom balls that get stuck under furniture (a daily routine).
Read more about Sadie
Sadie's sweet personality shows when she greets you for pets by lowering her chin and offering you the top of her head for a gentle pat. She is a curious girl following you around, always interested in what's going on. Sadie warms up slowly to new people but once she bonds, she will be your devoted companion. She gets along with another cat but she would also be fine as an only pet. Dogs and children are untested but would likely do best in a home that is quiet and calm. We estimate that Sadie was born around January 2020. Kitty Bio 3876MB-Sa.

Leo was rescued from a park in August 2026. He was a young cat with a broken femur, probably from being hit by a car. Leo was a stray/unowned cat according to the neighbors. When we accepted him into our program he had a long road ahead of him. He was facing pain, uncertainty, and a future that no little cat should have to face alone.

I'm a sweet, gentle girl with stunning green eyes and a whole lot of love to give. I just need a little time to feel comfortable enough to show you. I was rescued from a feral cat colony in Fresno, and I've come a long way since then! I can be a little shy when meeting new people, so I appreciate a gentle approach and a little patience while I get to know you. Once I feel comfortable, my sweet, affectionate personality comes shining through. I absolutely adore pets and attention, and I have so much love to give! I'm a sensitive girl, so unfamiliar sounds and sudden movements can send me looking for a good hiding spot.

And trust me, I'm a professional hider! But with a little patience, some tasty treats, and gentle encouragement, I'll come out to say hello. Once I know I'm safe, my affectionate side really shines. I'm not a particularly high-energy kitty. I'd much rather curl up on your lap or settle into a cozy spot nearby and enjoy your company. I love rubbing my face against you, weaving around your legs, and soaking up all the pets I can get. When I'm feeling especially comfortable, I might even rub my face against yours and give you a few sweet kisses! I'll come when you call my name or pat your lap, too. Did I mention I'm a purring machine? I purr constantly when I'm happy, and I make the sweetest little trills and chirps to let you know how I'm feeling. My dream home would be a calm, quiet place where I can be your one and only kitty. I'd love a patient, understanding person who will give me the time I need to settle in. I also have some skin sensitivities, so I'm on a special novel protein diet that helps keep me comfortable and healthy. Concerned about me being FIV+? Don't be—there's lots of helpful information out there to put your mind at ease. I can live a long, healthy life, meow. If you'd like to learn more, here's a great resource from the Cornell University FIV Guide. I may take a little extra time to trust you, but once I do, you'll have a devoted, affectionate companion who will fill your days with purrs, chirps, and plenty of love. 16. Jonesy
Young (8 months) · Male · Tuxedo / Mixed (short coat) · 19 mi from San Rafael

Jonesy — The Tuxedo Clown
Personality in 3 words: Playful, Loving, Silly
Best suited for: A home looking for a fun-loving companion and willing to give him a few days to settle in.
Meet Jonesy! Don't let the formal tuxedo fool you—Jonesy is a total goofball! He is a master entertainer who knows exactly how to steal the show. Once he gets to know you, his absolute favorite move is climbing right onto your chest and pressing his face against yours for some serious cuddle time. Whether he is chasing a feather wand at top speed or curled up like a little crescent moon in your lap, he is guaranteed to bring endless joy to your home.
Read more about Jonesy
My Favorite Things:
Toy of Choice: The Cat Dancer! I will chase this as long and as fast as you can wave it around.
Nap Spot: Curled up on a soft blanket right on the couch.
Fun Quirk: I like to give the cutest little "trills" whenever I walk into a room to greet my humans!
Social Life: Jonesy has been a star in his foster home! He gets along wonderfully with other cats and is making great progress learning that strangers are just future friends who haven't handed over treats yet. He is already fully litter box trained and ready for his big adventure.
The Ideal Home: Jonesy would love a home where he gets plenty of playtime and affection. Because he still has that awesome 10-month-old kitten energy, he would thrive if adopted with a buddy or into a home that already has a playful feline friend to keep him company. He just needs a few days to adjust to his new environment, but he will reward your patience with a lifetime of love and silly antics.
We estimate he was born January 13, 2016. Kitty Bio #16566JBJo.

19. Jolie
Kitten · Female · Domestic Short Hair · 15 mi from San Rafael

Jolie – Wobbly, Wonderful, and Full of Heart Hi there! My name is Jolie, and I may do things a little differently, but I don't let that stop me from enjoying life. I was found as a stray and brought to Oakland Animal Services before making my way to Give Me Shelter. I have moderate cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), a neurological condition I was born with that makes me a little wobbly when I walk. The good news? It isn't painful, it isn't contagious, and it doesn't slow me down nearly as much as you might think. I always find my way wherever I want to go! I'm a naturally curious girl. Once I think you're not watching, I'm off exploring every corner of the room, investigating anything new, and seeing what adventures await.
Read more about Jolie
I also love toys and am perfectly happy entertaining myself, though I'd never turn down a play session with you. When we first meet, I might be a little cautious if you approach me too quickly. Give me a little time, settle in, and you'll see my confidence grow. Before long, I'll be scooting a little closer, keeping you company, and once we're friends, I'll even meow to let you know I'd like some attention. I'm also told my sploots are a perfect 10 out of 10! One thing I know for sure—I adore other cats. I love making feline friends and would be thrilled to have a gentle, friendly cat companion who can show me the ropes and keep me company. I especially enjoy watching what the "big cats" are up to and making new friends. I've figured out all kinds of clever ways to navigate the world. A short, carpeted cat tree is one of my favorite places because I can pull myself up with my strong little forearms and claws to enjoy the view. I'm also an A+ student when it comes to using my litter box. Once my setup is right, I'm really no more work than any other cat. If you're looking for a sweet, resilient companion who will make you smile every day, I'd love the chance to meet you. My walk may be a little wobbly, but my heart is steady, full of love, and ready for a family to call my own. 20. Ariel
Young · Female · Domestic Medium Hair · 15 mi from San Rafael

Ariel – The Sweet Songbird with a Playful Heart Hi! I'm Ariel, though my foster family affectionately calls me "Ms. Purr." I always have something to say and I'm never shy about announcing when I've arrived! If you talk to me, I'll happily sing right back. Whether I'm asking for attention or reminding everyone that it's treat time, I love having little conversations with my people. I'm currently in foster with my brother, Banjo, and I definitely make sure everyone knows if he's getting treats or attention before I am! When I'm not chatting, you'll usually find me chasing wand toys, batting around little mice, or pouncing on anything that moves.

After I've finished playing, I love curling up on my favorite cozy blanket tucked behind a mirror, where I can enjoy a peaceful nap in my own little hideaway. People often notice my luxurious, silky black coat first, but it's my gentle, playful personality that really shines once you get to know me. I enjoy gentle pets once I get to know you, and I'm looking for a family that will let me settle in at my own pace. The more comfortable I become, the more my playful personality and cheerful songs come out. Banjo and I have a great time chasing each other around the house, but we don't have to be adopted together. I'd be happy to go home with my brother or start my next adventure with a family of my own. I was rescued in partnership with ACT Stockton S/N Clinic, and now I'm ready to find my forever home. My foster family says I'm a curious guy, and they're right—I don't like to miss a thing! I'm currently in foster with my sister, Ariel, and we have a blast chasing each other around the house, playing with toys, and getting our zoomies out together. This sweet little girl is a playful, affectionate kitty who would thrive in a family that has plenty of time to give her attention, play with her, and let her be part of the family. 23. Ballpark Frank
Senior · Male · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed · 21 mi from San Rafael

Everyone loves a Ballpark Frank, and this one comes with extra sweetness! This 12-year-old orange-and-white boy is serving up a generous helping of affection. He loves being petted so much that he may even try to climb onto you when you visit. Why settle for affection on the side when you can have the whole order? Frank has also been showing off quite an appetite at the shelter. A kind Samaritan found him on the street with a mouth injury and brought him to OAS. The injury turned out to be old, and it hasn't dampened his enthusiasm for attention or a good meal. You bring the meals and pets; Frank will bring the love. This sweet senior is ready for a home where he can be someone's favorite Frank!
Read more about Ballpark Frank
Medical details: Ballpark Frank arrived underweight and has an old injury affecting the joint connecting the two halves of his lower jaw, leaving his mouth slightly open and his tongue peeking out. OAS veterinary staff report that he appears comfortable, eats and drinks normally, and does not currently need treatment for the jaw injury. He does have severe dental disease that will require care from an adopter's veterinarian, along with a general health exam to address his weight and senior health needs. Medical information from OAS veterinary staff will be shared with anyone interested in adopting Frank so they can make an informed decision about his care.

Prince – A Gentle Soul Looking for My Second Chance Hello! I'm Prince, and my journey to San Francisco began thousands of miles away in Qatar. I once had a family, but when they left the country, they left me behind to survive on the streets—a place I was never meant to call home. Thankfully, a kind rescuer took me in and made sure I could travel all the way to San Francisco for a chance at the forever family I've always deserved. If there's one thing you should know about me, it's that I absolutely love people. My favorite place is wherever you are! I'll happily follow you from room to room, stroll over wherever you're sitting, flop onto my side, and wait for pets.

I love cuddling up next to my humans, soaking up affection, and making every visitor feel like an old friend. I'm confident, outgoing, and I've never met a stranger—I think everyone is a potential new best friend! Even after everything I've been through, I've never stopped trusting people. I'm not mischievous or demanding. I'm just a sweet, easygoing boy who's happiest spending time with the people I love. While I was living on the streets, I injured the area above my right eye, which left me with a scar. The good news is my eye wasn't damaged at all, and the scar is purely cosmetic. I think it just adds a little character to my handsome face! Concerned about me being FIV+? Don't be—there's lots of helpful information out there to put your mind at ease. I can live a long, healthy life, meow. If you'd like to learn more, here's a great resource from the Cornell University FIV Guide. I've decided I'd really love to be your one and only feline companion. That means I get all the attention, all the snuggles, and all the love—and trust me, I'll return it tenfold. After losing my first home, I'm hoping my next one will be forever. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will greet you with love, curl up beside you after a long day, and remind you every day just how special the bond between a person and a cat can be, I think we might be the perfect match. 29. Elastigirl
Adult · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Tabby / Mixed · 15 mi from San Rafael

Elastigirl — Your Constant Companion for Life's Everyday Adventures Hi, I'm Elastigirl! I almost didn't get my second chance. I was rescued from euthanasia at Stockton Animal Shelter, where I had become a volunteer favorite. Everyone who met me knew I was a special girl, and now I'm hoping to find the family who will love me forever. I'm the kind of cat who wants to be part of everything you do. Folding laundry? I'm there. Organizing a drawer? I'll supervise. Opening a box? I need to inspect it immediately. Wherever my people are, that's exactly where I want to be. I'm an exceptionally calm, confident, and curious girl who's nearly impossible to rattle.
Read more about Elastigirl
Fireworks? Vacuum cleaners? Visitors? None of that bothers me much. Instead of hiding, I'm usually the first one to investigate what's going on. I also come when I'm called because spending time with my people is one of my favorite things. I form deep bonds with the people I love. I'll happily greet you at the door with my signature enthusiastic meow and be ready to hear all about your day. At bedtime, you'll usually find me sleeping beside you—or sometimes right on top of you. While I'm not much of a lap cat and prefer not to be carried, I absolutely love gentle scratches between my ears, along my cheeks, and down my back. I'll close my eyes, lean right into your hand, and soak up every second. My biggest purrs are reserved for making biscuits on a cozy blanket while cuddled up next to my favorite person. Playtime is where I truly shine. Wand toys are my absolute favorite, and I love chasing, jumping, pouncing, wrestling toys, and showing off my athletic moves. Interactive play is how I connect with my people, so I'm hoping to find a family that enjoys playing as much as I do. If I think you've been ignoring me for too long, I may follow you around, chat with you, or even give your ankle a gentle little tap to remind you it's time for another play session. I'm wonderfully easy to live with, too. I'm very tidy, use my litter box perfectly, groom myself beautifully, and don't leave much fur behind. I'm not especially food motivated, although I never turn down a Churu! My favorite meals are wet food mixed with extra water into a nice, soupy consistency. I do have a chronic upper respiratory condition that causes adorable little snuffles and noisy breathing. My rescue team even had a nasal scope performed to look for a treatable cause, but no nasal polyp was found. While you may occasionally notice a little nasal discharge, it's simply part of who I am. My happy snorts and sniffles make it extra easy to know when I'm excited to see you! Concerned about me being FIV+? Don’t be—there’s lots of helpful information out there to put your mind at ease. I can live a long, healthy life, meow. If you’d like to learn more, here’s a great resource from Cornell University FIV Guide. I'd do best in an active home with plenty of everyday activity. I would likely become bored in a very quiet home, but if you're looking for a cat who wants to be your sidekick through every project, every chore, and every cozy evening, I think we're going to make a wonderful team. I can't wait to meet you! Rescued from euthanasia at Stockton Animal Shelter. Kitten (3 months 9 days) · Male · Domestic Medium Hair / Mixed (medium coat) · 19 mi from San Rafael

Gandalf is a beautiful gray kitten with silky medium-length fur, a little white locket on his chest, and inquisitive eyes that are always taking everything in. He can be unsure when meeting new people, but once he feels safe, his sweet and playful personality quickly comes through. Toys and treats are an excellent way to win him over.
With the people he trusts, Gandalf is very gentle and easygoing. He enjoys being held and is happy to soak up affection, but he also has a goofy, playful side.
Read more about Gandalf
Gandalf would likely be happiest in a quieter home where he can settle in at his own pace. He isn’t a kitten who needs to be the center of attention or run the show, and he gets along really well with other cats. He happily lets his foster friend Bix boss him around. Gandalf enjoys having a cat friend around and needs to go to a home with another playful cat or be adopted with his foster buddy Bix. Gandalf is comfortable with his foster family’s calm dog. He has not been around children, but should be fine with gentle kids 12 and up.

Adopting a cat in San Rafael
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
