Meet Layla — A Little Heart Full of Love
Hi, I’m Layla, a sweet little girl just waiting for someone to call my own.

I may be a little shy when we first meet, but underneath that reserved exterior is a heart full of love just waiting to blossom. Once I feel safe and know I can trust you, my sweet personality shines through, and you’ll discover that my favorite place in the whole world is right beside you... or even better, curled up in your lap.

Read more about Layla

I’m a cuddly girl who loves human affection and treasures those quiet moments spent close to my favorite person. Your gentle pets, warm hugs, and undivided attention mean the world to me. I don’t need a lot of excitement to be happy. A cozy spot, a little playtime, and someone to love are more than enough. I’m a laid-back little soul with so much love to give.

All I’m missing is my person. Someone who will give me the time to feel safe, the patience to come out of my shell, and the love I’ve been waiting for. In return, I promise to fill your days with soft purrs, cozy cuddles, and the sweetest little companionship.

Could you be the one I’ve been waiting for? I have a whole lot of love tucked inside this tiny heart, and I’m saving it for you.

2. Celeste

Kitten (3 months 27 days) · Female · Tabby (short coat) · 24 mi from South San Francisco

Born July 2026

Celeste will instantly hook you with her darling fuzzy cheeks & gentle purrs. She is from a litter of lucky polydactyl kittens who all have dazzling personalities.

Celeste and her siblings didn’t always appear so lucky. They were brought to us severely malnourished with terrible respiratory infections & other medical concerns. With weeks of careful monitoring & medications, they recovered beautifully. Of course, our efforts were only half the battle. These brave & determined sweethearts showed tremendous strength & courage throughout.

Read more about Celeste

Celeste is gentle yet very energetic. She enjoys jumping over your legs while you watch your shows and is very respectful of your work. She loves to receive affection & enjoys nap piles with her siblings. The best of times is when you bust out the feather wand though!

Due to her young age, she must be adopted with another kitten if there is not another kitten or very playful young adult in the home.

If you’re ready for an unforgettable fluffy ball to join your family, fill out our adoption questionnaire so you can meet her and learn more.

5. Polly

Senior · Female · Domestic Short Hair / Snowshoe / Mixed · 8 mi from South San Francisco

Princess Polly – A Little Fighter with a Whole Lot of Love to Give Hi, I'm Princess Polly! I've had quite the journey, and there was a time when I almost didn't get the chance to tell my story. But thanks to some pretty amazing people who refused to give up on me, I'm here today! My story began when some wonderful people found me lying outside their front door, barely able to move. They brought me inside and tried to help, but I was very sick. They took me to San Francisco Animal Care & Control (SFACC), where I was rushed to the emergency hospital. It turned out I had diabetes and was suffering from a life-threatening condition called diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).

Read more about Polly

Thankfully, the doctors stabilized me and started me on insulin. I had a microchip, but sadly, no one came to claim me. And that's when things got really scary. The kind people who found me never forgot about me. They checked with SFACC every single day to see how I was doing. Then came the news no one wanted to hear. If a rescue didn't commit to taking me by the end of the day, I would be euthanized. My finder wasn't about to let that happen without a fight. She reached out to Give Me Shelter Cat Rescue, begging them to help me. They immediately contacted SFACC and asked to review my medical records, which bought me a few precious days. At first, there were concerns that I might need hospice care. But my finder even had her own veterinarian review my records, and the vet believed I had a chance to recover. I was also showing signs of improvement during my time at SFACC. How could anyone give up on me when I was trying so hard to get better? Give Me Shelter decided to give me that chance, and that's how I became Princess Polly! And guess what? Just one week after arriving in foster care, I went to the vet, and my lab values were all within normal range! My blood sugar was still too high, but otherwise, I was doing remarkably well. I wasn't a hospice kitty after all. I was alive, getting stronger, and thriving! I'm one lucky girl to have had so many people advocating for me. Without them, I wouldn't be here today. Now, let me tell you about the real me! I'm a confident, affectionate girl who absolutely loves being loved. Petting is one of my favorite things, and I even have a signature move. When you stop petting me before I'm ready, I'll gently reach out with my paw, grab your hand, and pull it back toward me. That's my way of saying, "Excuse me, I wasn't finished!" It's pretty irresistible, if I do say so myself. I love being part of whatever you're doing, whether that's relaxing on the couch, working at your desk, or just hanging out together. I'm a wonderful companion who enjoys attention, affection, and being close to my people. Now, about my diabetes. I know it might sound intimidating, but I promise I'm a really good patient! I get insulin twice a day, and I'm so easygoing about my injections. I've even worked out a pretty sweet deal with my foster mom. Every time I get my insulin, I get a Churu treat! I know the routine, and I think it's a pretty fair trade. I'm also a champ when it comes to having my blood sugar checked. My foster mom uses a little glucose meter to make sure I'm doing well, and I cooperate like the good girl I am. I do have some funny eating habits. I'm more of a grazer than a finish-my-dinner-in-one-sitting kind of girl. My foster mom is working with me on that because a healthy diet is especially important for my diabetes. I love my treats, especially Churu, dehydrated chicken, and the occasional little bit of crunchy kibble! As for my forever home, I'd be perfectly happy being your one and only princess, but I could also share my kingdom with a mellow kitty friend. I've been through a lot, but none of it has changed my loving personality. I'm a happy, affectionate girl with so much love to give. I just need someone who understands that my diabetes is part of my life and is willing to help me stay healthy. So many people fought to give me a

Young (5 months 24 days) · Female · Domestic Short Hair (short coat) · 6 mi from South San Francisco

Hello guys and gals! My name is Daisy and I am a 6 month old, spayed, currently small-sized, black, female, domestic shorthair kitty cat! I'm a sweet and kind girl who is looking for her forever home to create a beautiful life with. I'm a curious gal who likes to greet people the moment they enter my kitty condo, though I'm not necessarily a social butterfly. I let my inquisitive side lead me while observing and taking in the scenes around me. After my quick inspection, you'll see both my playful and loving side! Some days I'm all about my fave toys and others, I'm happy to just silently chill next to you and receive lots of gentle caresses against my soft fur. I'm kind of the best mix ever, don't you think? If you agree (which I'm sure you do), come on down to the shelter and let's meet so you can see all of my sides manifest in person!

10. Aloisius

Adult (2 years 1 month) · Male · Tabby / Mixed · 12 mi from South San Francisco

CASTRO VALLEY, CA: ALOISIUS (CP) is just the sweetest boy!! He was a very handsome young tomcat (meaning an adult male cat unneutered, with a big round head), when he was found and rescued as he was walking in an area known for coyotes.

Aloisius is a very tame cat, so it is likely someone was feeding him and tamed him down, but he was not microchipped and his owner could not be located. Aloisius is now safe and cared for in a foster home.

Read more about Aloisius

Aloisius is adorable and a total sweetheart, and he deserves his own loving indoor-only home. It is likely he would get along with children 8 years or older who are gentle and can move more slowly until he adjusts to his new family and environment.

Aloisius would do great in a home with another kitty, but probably not with dogs.

Aloisius was born in approximately September 2024. He is healthy, has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and is ready for his forever home!

If you are looking for a great, gentle companion for yourself and maybe your cat, you cannot go wrong with this sweet, precious and very handsome boy!

Flemeth is a gentle, low-maintenance companion who enjoys a peaceful environment and the freedom to do things at her own pace. Once a stray living in a neighborhood where she became a victim of animal cruelty, she was rescued and provided with much-needed veterinary care and a safe foster home. Despite everything she's endured, Morrigan has blossomed into an incredibly affectionate, trusting, and joyful girl who still has so much love to give.

Morrigan is looking for a gentle, patient, and understanding family who will give her the kindness, security, and unconditional love she deserves. She has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. After such a difficult beginning, this sweet girl is ready to leave her past behind and begin a beautiful new chapter. All she needs now is a forever family to call her own!

She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines.

If you're interested in adopting her and completing her rescue story and want to learn more about her, please complete adoption application below and our team will be in touch very soon!

26. Sadie

Adult (6 years 9 months) · Female · Domestic Medium Hair / Mixed (medium coat) · 10 mi from South San Francisco

Beautiful and petite Sadie is a kitten at heart when it comes to her favorite toys in the world – pom pom balls! She delightfully bats and tosses them in the air without a care in the world. Let's just say that she is one very happy cat when her foster digs out the multiple pom pom balls that get stuck under furniture (a daily routine).

Read more about Sadie

Sadie's sweet personality shows when she greets you for pets by lowering her chin and offering you the top of her head for a gentle pat. She is a curious girl following you around, always interested in what's going on. Sadie warms up slowly to new people but once she bonds, she will be your devoted companion. She gets along with another cat but she would also be fine as an only pet. Dogs and children are untested but would likely do best in a home that is quiet and calm. We estimate that Sadie was born around January 2020. Kitty Bio 3876MB-Sa.

Adopting a cat in South San Francisco

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
