1. Walter
Kitten (2 months 20 days) · Male · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed · 4 mi from Newark

Walter had a rough start to life. He was found hiding in a car engine, where he was squirted with a hose and then chased around a garage until he was finally caught. You might expect a kitten who experienced all that to be frightened or wary of people—but Walter has decided that humans are pretty wonderful after all!
The moment you pet him, Walter starts to purr. He loves giving and receiving kisses, enjoys belly rubs, and is an incredibly cuddly little guy. Unlike many kittens, Walter actually loves being held and will happily curl up next to you for a cozy nap if given the chance.
Read more about Walter
Of course, Walter is still a kitten, so playtime is a must! He loves anything that moves, but wand toys and chasing balls are definitely among his favorites. After he’s finished showing off his playful side, he’s more than happy to settle in for some serious snuggle time.
Walter has been through a lot, but none of it has taken away his trust, sweetness, or loving spirit. He’s the kind of kitten who will quickly steal your heart—and before you know it, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without him.
We think you’ll be completely smitten with Walter!
First priority will be given to applicants who adopt two, next those who have a young cat at home already.

12. Purrseus
Young · Male · Domestic Medium Hair · 7 mi from Newark

You would have a hard time finding a teenage cat as sweet, affectionate and stunningly handsome as Purrseus. Unless Purrseus had a twin brother...which he does! Not an ordinary brother, Gemini is a twin who looks so identical that it can be hard to tell them apart. Purrseus is a just bit braver and more outgoing, so is the first to investigate new things like toys, and will be the first to make friends with new people. Gemini is cautious but not far behind, and quickly joins his brother in playful games or your lap. These gorgeous boys were born to a homeless feral mama cat living on the streets.

But they decided early that they were lovers-not-fighters. They were always together and shared everything. Fortunately a kind woman started feeding the mama-cat and kittens and she called for help getting all of them spayed and neutered. But Purr and Gem were so friendly we say that we didn't trap them... they trapped themselves! And at the same time they trapped our hearts with their calm, friendly manners. Now these boys are enjoying everything about life in a caring foster home, and they are ready to share double-the-fun with you. Neutered, vaccinated, tested negative for FIV/FeLV/FHW, microchipped. 13. Shiloh
Adult · Male · Domestic Short Hair / Mixed · 7 mi from Newark

Sugar and Shiloh are oh-so-sweet (hence the name Sugar) siblings who are ready to take over your lap and give you lots of love and purrs. They were found, abandoned by their cat-mama, in a backyard in Los Altos. Fortunately bright white kittens are hard to miss, so a kind homeowner began feeding them and called for help in getting them ready for adoption. Both kittens were exceedingly calm and gentle right off the street, but were a little shy about their new environment. However they adjusted quickly and are exceedingly well-behaved and super-affectionate. Sugar and Shiloh are perfect for a work-at-home life, because they have been "helping" their foster-mom while she works in her home office.
Read more about Shiloh
That help includes keeping her lap warm while she is on zoom calls, playing quietly with each other when she is concentrating on a deadline, and "assisting" with yoga stretches and meditation when she takes a break. In addition to their calm and loving personalities, Sugar and Shiloh are beautiful, with that very unusual white coat with just a few gray markings; just a gray "cap" and tail. They are extremely bonded so must be adopted together. They would probably prefer a quiet home but would be fine with older children. Spayed/neutered, tested, microchipped, FVRCP vaccinated, and treated for fleas and worms. Please note:Shiloh should be adopted with a littermate For more information & an online application go to https://www.communitycatrescue.org/adoption/cat.php?id=1628&ts=1793257231&src=rg

14. Tessa
Adult · Female · Domestic Short Hair · 7 mi from Newark

Lovely tortoiseshell color Tessa is an outgoing, confident and VERY smart young girl. Born homeless on the street, she quickly figured out how to make friends and influence people, particularly the people that could help her. That included a trapper who was trying to trap the cats to get them spayed...Tessa just walked into the trap before it was even set! In her foster home Tessa still plays like a kitten, with a kitten's energy. She is probably making up for her deprived kittenhood when she had to worry about survival and had no opportunity to just play. Her favorite game is pounce-jump-hunt the play mouse dangling on a pole, but she will hunt any toy that moves.
Read more about Tessa
She also enjoys cuddling with her foster parents and sleeping with them at night. That might not be important now, but when the weather gets cold again, she is bedwarmer that doesn't end up on your utility bill. Tessa has a clean bill of health: spayed, vaccinated, tested negative for FIV/FeLV and treated for fleas and parasites. She is ready to join you for some summer fun! 16. Orange Juice
Young · Male · Domestic Short Hair · 9 mi from Newark

Like any orange boy, OJ has a penchant for mischief. He's starved for affection, and for food. He'll never say no to wet food, and will immediately sniff out your snacks. Because he's only recently learned to live in a home, OJ has an occasional habit of sometimes urinating on soft surfaces like beds despite being litter box trained. Will need a prepared adopter ready to address this issue if needed. He needs some reassurance and patience, but once he's settled in and gets to know you, he enjoys taking up space on your lap or by your side. Orange Juice (OJ) and his mate Clementine belonged to a small group of sociable stray cats in my neighborhood.
Read more about Orange Juice
They'd sleep and play around the children's playground structure in front of my house. Because the HOA does not allow for residents to be seen feeding them, they were not allowed to stay as community cats and were at risk of having Animal Control being called to capture and likely euthanize them. OJ is likely a father, and has at least 2 other orange kittens that had already been adopted by a fellow neighbor. He'd occasionally go to visit them by peeking through the neighbors screen door. For anybody interested in adopting him - this would be a great friendship opportunity with the other cat owners so that this small group of cats could stay connected. He needs some reassurance and patience, but once he's settled in and gets to know you, he enjoys taking up space on your lap or by your side. Gets along great with other cats, and doesn't enjoy being alone. Orange Juice is currently living in Union City, CA 94587 For more information & an online application go to https://www.peninsulacatworks.org/adoption/cat.php?id=2320 [ts=1793257240&src=rg]

17. Grey
Kitten · Female · Domestic Short Hair · 9 mi from Newark

Meet Grey, a truly extraordinary feline with extra toes and an extra big heart! Grey is a polydactyl kitty—yes, she boasts six adorable toes on her paws—and she uses every single one of them to steal the hearts of everyone she meets. If you are looking for a world-class snuggler, Grey is your girl. She is exceptionally affectionate and lives for human connection. Her favorite activities include cuddling up close, purring like a tiny motor, making enthusiastic biscuits with her multi-toed paws, and sleeping right by your side every single night. Grey isn't just a total cuddle bug; she’s also a bright, playful soul.
Read more about Grey
Exceptionally smart, she has an uncanny ability to understand human emotions and language, often tuning into your voice and routine like a sweet little shadow. When she isn't busy soaking up love or keeping you company, she’s happily engaging in playtime or making friends—she gets along wonderfully with other cats and thrives in a friendly, interactive environment. Grey’s journey began this past July in a North San Jose parking lot. She wandered into a managed colony of fixed cats, clearly looking for a little help. When rescuers trapped her for TNR, a vigilant caregiver noticed her paw was bleeding right before her release. Plans changed instantly—she went home with her foster mom to heal and see if indoor life suited her. It turns out, home life suits her brilliantly! Behind those initial street-cat nerves, this sweet four-month-old revealed a remarkably affectionate, purr-heavy heart and a playful side that keeps her foster family entertained. With her charming personality, Grey could potentially fit in any home. Grey is a special polydactyl kitten who was born with extra toes on all four paws! One extra toe on her hind paw grew downward, which kept her foot from resting flat and meant she had to walk on her tiptoes or the side of her paw. Thanks to the incredible team at Peninsula Catworks, Grey had surgery to safely remove the problematic toe. She sailed through her recovery, and today she’s running, jumping, and playing just like any other happy kitten! Grey is currently living in San Jose, CA 95131 Please note:Grey is polydactyl. 19. Ebony
Young · Female · Domestic Medium Hair · 9 mi from Newark

Ebony is a really sweet kitty looking for her forever home. She’s still fairly young and active and when she gets the zoomies, watch out! She spends the majority of her days resting and looking out the windows, but she also enjoys playing with laser toys, wand toys, and anything that moves. Ebony enjoys pets and comes up to cuddle when she feels like it, but she is not a clingy cat. Her personality combined with her soft fur makes her a lovely companion for anyone. Ebony was found on the streets of San Jose with her litter of four kittens. I took them in soon after when the kittens were around four weeks old and she took care of them until we adopted out the kittens at 8 and 12 weeks.
Read more about Ebony
Now she’s looking for her forever family to relax after raising a rambunctious litter. Ebony would do well in multiple different home environments. Her playfulness would do well with kids over the age of three, but her sweet side would also compliment someone with a slower pace. She also gets along with all of the cats that I have fostered, so I know she’ll do well with any cat she meets. No special needs. She is now spayed and has been dewormed and treated for fleas. Her only quirk is that she really loves human food, but she’s not in your face about it. She waits patiently for you to finish and will take any scraps that you’ll give her. I’ve been avoiding giving her most food and just let her have a few licks of my plate, but I’m sure that can be trained out of her. 20. Drew
Adult · Male · Domestic Short Hair · 9 mi from Newark

-Loves to cuddle. He will come on to my bed at night and routinely wait for me to lift my arm!! He's a cuddler - Does not mind wherever you pet him, he especially loves belly scratches. - Loves staring outside - First to pick a fight with another cat I adopted my cat about four to five years ago, and he has been part of our family ever since. He was kept strictly indoors for most of his life and was always cared for as an indoor cat. Over time, he started going outside. Unfortunately, this eventually led to him bringing fleas into the house, which also affected our other cat. My mom is already allergic to cats, and the ongoing flea problem has made it difficult for us to safely and comfortably keep both cats in our home.
Read more about Drew
This has been a really difficult decision because I care about him deeply and never wanted to give him up. He is now in need of a new home where he can be properly cared for and given the attention and stability he deserves. I want to make sure he goes somewhere safe rather than simply putting him outside or leaving him without proper care. My hope is that he can find a loving home or rescue that understands his situation and can help him get settled again. Ideally, clean and safe. Drew doesn't mind anyone's existence whether it's a baby crying or a dog sleeping on his bed. Drew is currently living in Sunnyvale, CA 94087 For more information & an online application go to https://www.peninsulacatworks.org/adoption/cat.php?id=2314 [ts=1793257240&src=rg]

How to adopt from Island Cat Resources and Adoption
Potential adopters pick out a cat or kitten and fill out an application. There will be a short interview with one of our volunteers. Adoptions do not happen same day. We will arrange a time to visit your home and the foster parents and a volunteer will meet there. Our adoption fee structure is: Cats and kittens (under 8 years): $100 Cats (over 8 years): $75 Two cats adopted together: Full amount of the higher fee, half the amount of the lower or same fee. For example: a kitten and a cat (under 8) would be $100.00 + 50.00 = $150.00 We require that all cats be kept indoor only. We have an adoption contract.

To meet our rescued cats/kitten: we ask that you fill out an adoption application first. Once you submit an application, a volunteer will contact you. All of our kitties are in foster homes; some can be seen at the foster homes, or at an upcoming Adoption Fair. We ask for your understanding: We are an all-volunteer organization and many of us have full-time jobs outside of our volunteer activities; therefore, it may be a few days before someone can respond to your email. We always try to reply as soon as possible. The kitties are for adoption, not for sale. Adoption fee for kittens is $125 ($200 for two) to help cover some of our food and veterinary expenses. All cats and kittens are: vaccinated as appropriate for their age microchipped dewormed deflead tested for FELV (feline leukemia) / FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) spayed/neutered prior to adoption We will ask you some questions about your home and we will be glad to answer any questions you may have. Adopting a kitty is a long-term commitment; the average life span for a kitty is 15-20 years. Most of our cats are in foster homes with other cats. They get lonely and bored without the company of their own kind, just like people. We try to place cats that enjoy the company of other cats in a home where there is feline companionship. But we do have many cats that would be happy to be the only cat in your life! Regardless of how an animal comes to us, we provide food, shelter, and medical care.

How to adopt from Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA
When a potential adopter comes into the shelter and sees an animal he or she is interested in adopting, we ask the potential adopter to first complete an Adoption Profile. Then, one of our knowledgeable customer service representatives brings the adopter and animal together in one of our Get Acquainted Rooms. There they have a quiet, private space to get to know each other better. During the visit, the customer service representative may discuss the following: past experiences with animals and current animals in the home lifestyle, including work schedule and the kinds of activities they plan to do with their companion animal housing situation - own or rent, size of yard, etc. In order to make the best match possible for a family and home, we suggest potential adopters bring along all members of the household to meet the new companion animal and bring their current dog(s) to meet a potential dog. Adopters must also be 18 or older.

Adopting a cat in Newark
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the cat, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your cat in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior cats are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate cat, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Kittens go quickly, especially in spring and summer. If you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon, and think about adopting two: young cats keep each other company and out of mischief.
